^this^ - a calorie spike can jump-start your metabolism. :)

LOVE Penzey's!!! have to disagree on the china cinnamon tho - their 'fancy vietnamese' cinnamon is definitely the best one. :)

definitely net more than 800 calories per day. Your metabolism will grind to a halt at that rate. I would try to eat close to your bmr, but at the very least 1200 net calories.

not the healthiest thing ever, but: Tamale casserole 1 tube of polenta (I usually use about 4/5, but have some left over) 1 can la preferida low fat refried black beans 1lb laura's lean beef, browned (92/8) 1 can red enchilada sauce (low fat) 1/2 cup 2% shredded cheese (I use 4-cheese Mexican blend) line bottom of 8x8 or…

THANK YOU!! I agree, and the "you must eat only 'health' food FOREVER NOW!!!" mentality is why I have been starting and stopping on MFP for over a year now. Now that I've realized that I can have a little of that awful "normal" food now and then and it won't mean that I'll be fat forever, it's much easier to stick with…

I agree - You can also call your supermarket and find out if they have a specific day/time when they reduce for "manager's specials." I stock up on lean beef and chicken when I see those stickers, then freeze what I'm not going to use right away. good luck!

Welcome to MFP! Don't stress about where you've been - you are on the right track now. We didn't put on the extra weight in a day, and it will take some time to get rid of it, too, so just be patient with yourself. You can do this!

Cut out soda 2 months ago, and am also trying to take better care of myself by taking better care of my home. I've never been a natural housekeeper, but when my home is clean and pleasant I feel more relaxed and happier. I've been trying to incorporate the FLYlady system (http://flylady.com/) of using babysteps to develop…

it IS fascinating to see the psychological difference when those numbers turn red. I did my first "spike" day today, and only went over by 130 calories and 11g fat (pretty wimpy for a cheat day), but it still stresses me out to see those red digits! that's why it took me so long to actually stick with MFP - if I knew I was…

LOVE this thread - I was wondering what others my height were aiming for. I'm 5'6" started at 185 lbs and goal weight for now is 150, then I will reassess. I have a medium-large frame so I think 140-150 will probably be "right" for me, but won't know for sure till I get there.

I agree with ashtonalayna about having reasonable goals. I have started working on diet and fitness multiple times, even paying a ton of money to see a personal trainer for months, but I always set my goals too high and it never worked for long. Even though I'm just starting up again (I originally signed up for MFP ages…

I totally understand where you're coming from - it can be easy to get discouraged, but don't let one "off" week get you down. 8 lbs in 3 weeks is still fantastic progress... heck, 8 lbs in a month is your recommended max 2 lb/ week loss. You should be proud of yourself! Everything else you loose this month is just bonus.…

I make a breakfast sandwich with Pepperidge farms deli flats, 3 egg whites (I usually use "all whites") mixed with spinach, and 1 laughing cow light cheese wedge. It keeps me full for a while and is only about 233 calories
