  • Weightloss is amazing, and positive no matter what. You WILL feel excellent after losing 40 pounds. That said, it's been my experience that people don't feel as good as they could have because they create high expectations that they can't meet. Don't have expectations, good or bad. I had expectations, and they were either…
  • This works. I over-count everything. A can of tuna that is 130 calories becomes 150 when I log it. etc. As you can see by my weightloss ticker, it works and is a simple way of not going over your daily calories.
  • That can be caused by many things though. I personally almost always have frigid hands and feet yet consume most of my liquid in the form of coffee, which dehydrates you. I have maybe 3 cups of water a day.
  • Lol, this is exactly my experience. The first week I started on MFP I lost 7 pounds.
  • This. You probably had a huge deficit because you were fasting and exercising at the same time. Let's assume you ate 2100 calories one day and almost 0 the next day. And then you did 40 minutes of weight training, which I'll estimate to be around 250 calories gone, to be on the safe side counting low. 2100 + 250 = 2350…
  • I advise you to just stop posting, OP. You know your ideas are unrealistic. You have no mechanism with which to accomplish what you want to do, and you think for some reason that you can just make money appear out of thin air to support you. You can't back up what you're saying with any scientific studies or research,…
  • I'm not going to say it's the right thing to do, because it's not, but losing weight is addictive.
  • By this logic, wouldn't you be able to add fibre, through additives like benefibre, to the things that you make with sugar in them? Also, if it's not too much trouble, can you give us the name(s) of the medical condition(s) your husband has has that make him unable to eat certain types of food?
  • All I see are unreasonable goals intended to be obtained by even more unreasonable ideas about legislation. Why ban high fructose corn syrup? So that companies are forced to use more expensive alternatives and the prices of food goes up? All that would do is damage the economy and limit people's personal freedom to consume…
  • Inquality: It's Chivalry when women like it, and Sexism when they don't. Chivalry is an inherently sexist idea that implies women are worth more than men simply for being women. It's a sexist idea that implies men should help women based on the fact that they are women. Chivalry should be dead.
  • The reason people tell you to cut out alcohol when losing weight is that alcoholic beverages are usually very calorie-dense, which means they have a lot of calories for their size. For example: 1 shot (1.5 fl oz) of vodka is almost 100 calories. That's a tiny amount of drink but a lot of calories. If you have a mixed…
  • Sorry for my wording in the OP. I am not mentioning my diet when I refuse things, I mention something related to my diet (the fact that I don't desire to eat this food) Some have taken what I said as if I'm telling people I'm on a diet every time they offer me something - I'm not. The suggestion to just say "no thank you"…
  • Okay, seriously, thank you for making this topic. I've been dealing with this for awhile now and I think this is one of the things nobody ever talks about: when you lose weight, you're COLD. I think it's because I'm still at deficit, so I'm not making a lot of heat digesting, but man I'm always freezing. After losing 100+…
  • I was in that situation awhile ago. If I can give you one piece of advice, don't look at it as "I have to lose 90 pounds" Look at it as "I need to lose 1, 1.5, or 2 pounds this week" If you focus on the big goal, you're more likely to fail because of the pressure.
  • Basically, this. My roughly 116 pounds of weight loss has been achieved with pretty much no exercise.
  • There's nothing that the Clean Gut Diet will bring you that can't be achieved by eating a balanced diet and exercising.
  • These studies show that balancing (calories in) and (calories out) don't work for people with a damaged central nervous system. Are we supposed to believe that because this model of energy expenditure doesn't work for someone with a damaged hypothalamus that it is immediately flawed? The calories in, calories out model, in…
  • http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19955767 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12574189 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22577758 There are cases where people cannot lose weight even when balancing (calories in) and (calories out) due to having a damaged hypothalamus. The more you know! :P (I'm not disagreeing with you…
  • Read that quote edited to sound like a fit guy talking about his more heavy (but still healthy) girlfriend to realize that you sound like a horrible human being.
  • This is a reasonable goal. 50 pounds in 6 months is certainly do-able. You should set your diary to lose 2 pounds a week, and you'll probably make it give-or-take a few pounds. There are some great guides on this website for how to lose weight in a comfortable manner. Generally, the guidelines I give are: -Eat a balanced…
  • This. I've lost 101 pounds so far, probably more come when I weigh myself tomorrow, and I've been eating under BMR for 4 months now with no considerable difference in my health. I don't feel drowsy/irritable, I'm in great mental shape, and don't often feel hungry. _____ As for the original poster, I recommend you try 1200…
  • I don't think this is necessarily true. I live in Quebec and a lot of things that are available here just have not been added. Besides that point, I round up everything I eat to make counting easier. A can of tuna that is 140 calories gets counted as 150 for convenience and to make sure I am under my calorie goal.
  • It's possible to lose 18 pounds in 30 days, but it's also inadvisable since that behavior is incredibly dangerous.
  • "Fat Acceptance" is a silly concept. Of course I accept those who are overweight - I myself am overweight and have been for most of my life. As for HAES, I understand that people can be healthy at different sizes, which is to say a slim marathon runner is healthy and so is a beefy weight lifter, but "health at EVERY size"…
  • If you're going to lose weight by counting calories, there should be no yo-yoing. The problem is likely that you aren't counting your calories eaten and expended properly. The calories you lost in exercise are probably over-estimated. Because you don't know how much calories you used up, you're probably putting a higher…
  • You probably have a combination of problems going on here. I calculated your basal metabolic rate, which will determine how many calories your body would naturally burn doing nothing but sleeping for 24 hours. Your BMR is 1489 calories per day - you can round it up to 1500 or down to 1450 for functional purposes (I'll use…
  • Two. One in the morning, one in the afternoon. Throughout the day I drink coffee.
  • -Eat big portions of low calorie food instead of small portions in high calorie food. -Over-count everything by adding calories to your journal instead of food. If a can of tuna is 130 calories, count it as 150 calories.
  • Metabolism boosting is a myth. http://examine.com/faq/does-metabolism-vary-between-two-people.html You will not lose weight by manipulating your metabolism. Even if you compared someone with an abnormally fast metabolism to someone with an abnormally slow metabolism, the difference between the amount of calories they can…
  • Calorie balance is the only thing that matters. You will still lose weight if you eat late at night but stay under your calorie limit for that day. That said, there's no purpose in eating if you're going to be asleep in an hour or two. You will not need the energy from the food for anything.
