  • I don't have any advice for you as I haven't been in your particular shoes, but my other half is fighting some battles of his own while trying to get healthy, so I have an idea of how hard it is. I just wanted to say, congratulations on the 10lbs down - that could not have been easy to do, but you did it. That's a big deal!
  • What really helps is to read some books (like New Rules of Weightlifting for Women) to understand the basic game plan and why you do what and when, and then find people demonstrating exercises on youtube. When you go in armed with a battle plan and a bit of knowledge, it makes it a little less intimidating. Don't ever be…
  • Around 10.30 or 11 a.m. seems to be the best time for me - for some reason it just feels the best at that time. I've had breakfast, a few cups of coffee, and sat in on a lot of meetings by then so I'm ready to move. (I work from home so nobody cares if I'm sitting there all stinky and sweaty!)
  • I haven't been into a weight room in a few months, just doing cardio right now (I know, I know!) and need to get back in there. Your post reminds me of why I should wait another week or two  And seriously - NUMBER SIX. What is it with the folks who walk up, grab the dumbells they want, and start curling smushed up as…
  • I think it's keeping me very aware, every single morning, of what I'm trying to do. You just have to be completely accepting of the fact that you can do everything right, and still see slight fluctuations up sometimes. If I step on the scale tomorrow and see it up a pound or two, I'm not worried. As long as I'm doing what…
  • Well, I love my crock pots. I have a huge one I can fit a large chicken in and a smaller one for things like chicken breasts, pork chops, etc. They are pretty handy! A digital scale is good to have as well. Food sealers are great - you can cook in large batches on the weekend, then portion things out (spaghetti sauce,…
  • When I check in on MFP, I don't post a weight change unless it's a loss. But yes, I found it really helpful to see how the range just slowly shifts down. Today, I'm at the top of my current range, but I'm pretty sure it's all gin and deep fried macaroni and cheese ball thingies. There's also a shot of tequila in there…
  • 5'4. SW 164 CW 146 GW No number. Just healthy and fit and hopefully look good nekkid.
  • It's really nice to see that streak counter. But it's a whole lot nicer to see clothes getting baggy!
  • I love this. Honey, you ARE to young to not be living your life to the fullest! So glad you decided to make that happen. (oh, to be 21 again....)
  • Just reaffirming what others are telling you - you are at a healthy weight. Weight lifting will get you where you want to be. Pretty quickly, too.
  • I have the flex, wear it 24/7, and it syncs to MFP. I really like it. I also use a Polar heart rate monitor when I work out so between the two, I feel like I'm getting all the information I can to help me throughout the day.
  • I'm 47 and losing 0 to 3 lbs a week. So far I've lost about 15 - quit smoking on new years so I've lost what I gained and I'm going to keep going, I'd like to get another 20lbs off. I run almost every day; love it. That's my 'me' time. Around 4 miles, and burn anywhere from 300 to 400 calories. Because of my age and…
  • Yep. As long as you are sure about your calorie deficit, just keep going.
  • I am reading of folks buying several rotisserie chickens at once - use one or two immediately for stews, soups, enchiladas, pot pies, etc - but freezing a couple others in plastic wrap. I don't know why, but I never thought of that. I haven't tried to freeze any yet, but they are damned handy. Usually I buy two - one to…
  • Get a big box of plastic wrap while you are there. It's ginormous and will last you many years (seriously) and it's really good plastic wrap. Restaurant quality. Once you get your haul home, portion out the meat immediately, wrap it up, and freeze it.
  • WOW. The difference in your face is incredible.
  • Dude, I have a spreadsheet. I got all OCDy on it. I weigh every morning and track it, along with calories in and out as well as anything kooky (sick, ate everything, busy & ate nothing, etc). It's really interesting to me to see the fluctuations and it doesn't wig me out. As someone here once said, you don't have a weight.…
  • Is 107lbs actually a healthy weight for you?
  • Give this one a try: http://forum.lowcarber.org/ It's a huge Atkins/low carb support forum, but I'm guessing you will find a lot of celiac support there as well. I think it's still pretty active and the recipe forum is great, you might get some good ideas or recipes once you sift through the low-carb/gluten free posts.
  • You've already gotten great advice, I just wanted to throw my support for you and this advice into the ring. And I wanted to tell you, even though I've never faced the problems you are facing, every single healthy choice you make means you can make another. And you are already doing that. You are doing it right now when…
  • My closest friend has a noticeable physical disability; spina bifeda. She's gorgeous and a spitfire but tiny and will be lucky if she's still mobile and not in a wheelchair in 10 years. Yet she gets up every morning at O'God O'Clock and goes to work, and she makes that little body go. Her words. THAT is a problem. It might…
  • I think you should count your blessings you have so many friends and social opportunities, and just keep doing your best. I've already accepted that I have zero self control when faced with a buffet of wonderful home cooked foods, so I try to enjoy in moderation and burn it off best I can throughout the week. I'm a…
  • Yep. I even measure it out sometimes to be sure.
  • Yeah clean eating does that to you. You decide to "treat" yourself to something you love, that you are craving, and it's suddenly nasty and isn't hitting the sweet spot. Beware of two things: 1. You want to cure that craving so badly that you keep eating other junk trying to get the fix. 2. Taco Bell is NEVER nasty and…
  • No, I wouldn't think so. Just pay attention to how you are feeling and responding, and if it seems it's not working for you (or making you sick) after a few weeks, then you can look at what to tweak.
  • Yep freeze some. Keep enough for one meal in the fridge, and portion out the rest for the other two meals in freezer bags. Just remember to pull them out in the morning and toss in the fridge to safely thaw the day you want to eat them.
  • Pretty new, and haven't been to the weight room in 4 weeks now, doing all cardio at the moment trying to get some weight off. No benching yet,145 on the deadlift and about the same for the squat if I recall. I miss it. :(
  • Oh I heart you. Now that I am done staring at the Magic gifs and can formulate a reply, I can say that anyone that believes this can be overthought will hate me. I got my geek on with this and I am OCD'ing all over the place but am ok with it. I weigh every day and I have a spreadsheet. I HAVE A SPREADSHEET, lol. I'm…
