I did weight watchers and lost weight, for a while. I found it very difficult to exercise with their program though because they are too big on promoting low fat (2 tsp a day? Are they nuts?!!) and low calories and I just could not work out as hard as I wanted on their diet recommendations. I also felt they were way too…

This is a pretty straight forward reply that I totally agree with. Sugar is addictive, at least for me. I know people say not to say food is clean or bad, but I do not agree. White sugar is NOT food. It is a process additive that was never in our original food chain, and to me a chemical that acts like a drug in my body.…

Since I do 16/8 intermittent fasting I take my protein shake after I work out. However, I always take a pre-workout drink that has a few vitamin B's, some electrolytes and some BCAA. I find it really helps me from not getting sick to my stomach while I work out, and it give me a pump (a splurge of energy) when I work…

I work out 5 days a week, about 90 mins a session in cross training. I still put that I am sedentary on my TDEE. Why? Because I drive alot, sit alot for work and do a lot on the computer for recreation. In other words when I am not working out at the gym I am sitting on my butt and that is sedentary... Now another reason I…

Yes this...I only saw a 4 lbs loss the first month....and I nearly gave up. I kept at it and lost 40 lbs eventually but I had to mix some things up. If you can get a trainer I would, but here are a few things I have learned. 1. Get your thyroid checked. Make sure it is a full panel thyroid test (not just TSH, but also free…

My work out schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday. 15-20 minutes warm-up on the spinner. 1 hour of strength training. I do a full body work out, but I rotate what I start with, so if I start with legs on Monday then I start with arms on Wednesday. I do 4 to 6 exercises for each major group of muscles. I lift fairly heavy and…

Kale chips with a little vinegar and sea salt...omgosh good!

I love crossfit, but with my knee injury I can not do it any more, without a lot of modifications, however I do have plans to return after my ACL surgery... It is the most incredible workout. With that being said I think it depends on your budget. If 240 is worth it to you then do it. One thing I do know, much of the…

I really hate everything about strength training...well except one thing. The results...That is what motivates me to keep going despite the pain. And there is no denying, there is a lot of pain when you start out. Take BCAA to help reduce the muscle fatigue, it really helps. The first two months I just did cardio 5x a week…

Quote: Actually yes. I drink a liter of Mtn Dew several days a week, I eat ice cream, pop tarts, snickers, cake, donuts, etc and I'm in better shape than most people that eat tasteless rabbit food all day. Maybe children are overweight because PE has been removed from school, they are driven to and from school, in my day I…

Ok so I am reading these posts and realizing something that is not being said that really should be. If you are over weight, and I venture a lot of people here are, then sugar, any sugar spikes your insulin, because you are pre-diabetic and that is NOT a good thing. Constant blood sugar spikes cause insulin resistance and…

The only trouble I find with eating dirty is it makes me hungry and want more than what is properly portioned. My blood sugar spikes and I end up on a cycle of eating more junk. For example I can not eat just one triple stuffed oreo, I must have half the package, and at 100 calories a cookie, well I will be in the gym for…

I get to go to Victoria Secret and buy new sexy panties...no more grandma panties for me ;)

Cross Fit is easy to do at home...you just have to get creative on how you do some of the functional exercises...they have tons of ideas for home gyms on their website. Kettlebells are amazing, and so are elastic resistance bands. Sandbags really work and are cheap as well.

Love me some TJ's It has got to be my favorite place to eat on the run...best place to find a good reasonably priced salad in a hurry....they even give you forks at the check out! My favorite lunch there is a salad with their Wine Country Chicken Salad on top...it is a perfect after workout meal with a few edamame rice…

Yes this exactly....This is why I do 16/8 Intermittent Fasting to help with late night time eating. Eating enough protein and fat during the day and evening is critical to not over eating at late night. And research is showing us that timing on food is not as critical as calorie intake and macro-nutrient balancing....

This is going to sound funny but I am fasting TV shows right now. The commercials were killing me, and so was the inactivity. Can you go to the gym in the evening and do some swimming, suana, and/or a yoga class...anything to get you moving and not thinking about food...even some reading or music...call a friend and have…

Salt is only one reason we bloat. You might have an intolerance to a food you are eating and you are not even aware of it. As we age we have less enzymes to digest foods we are sensitive to, and we bloat. Wheat, eggs, dairy, legumes, and many other things could be affecting you. It could be a medicine or a supplement. It…

I started with the principals from New Rules, but in the end created my own program that works for me because I use an inverted pyramid. Reps of 8/10/12, with the first set being the heaviest. If you can do 9 in the first set it is not heavy enough is the rule. Check this bb.com page for more info:…

YesThis! This is where you find motivation friend. This is how I found it. I woke up one morning and look in the mirror and ask my self "DO I WANT TO DIE BEFORE I EVEN HAVE GRAND KIDS?!!" (I am 48, and have a daughter getting ready to be married so the grand parent days are around the corner). And the answer was He** no. I…

I am going to to redirect you to your daily MFP. You can eat what ever you want provided you are in a calorie deficit. BUT with that said you should eat at least 100 grams of protein daily (that is like minimum if you are working out), and 5-6 cups of fruits and veggies and 2 or 3 servings of healthy fat. If you have eaten…

I had lost a lot of weight before my gallbladder surgery then gained it all back. And then sat on my butt for two years. I had NO motivation for two freakin years after that surgery...but hey I was having liver failure from the stones, so I had no choice...but something in me changed after that surgery and I had to fight…

quote: If you are not hungry till 11, don't eat until 11! I think we all get so caught up in things like "must eat 3 square a day" or "snack so that you eat 6 times a day" or "fast this many hours" or whatever dietary schedule the plan we favor recommends, and then we lose sight of the things our body is telling us. Eat…

I read a funny post on BB.com about how a guy loved IF so much he wished he could marry it. I have to say I totally agree with his statement...though I am still holding out for tall, dark and handsome some day ;) I LOVE 16/8. LOVE IT. I attribute it as the number one thing that has enabled me to work out hard. I burn…

I shoot for a 80/20 80 percent of my food are important things, protein, and healthy fats, and nutritional veggies and fruit. This makes up the lion share of my calories. Then I eat ONE grain a day. Often it is rice, or other form of polish or whole grain. I do not eat much wheat... But then I look at my calories and I…

6 days a week is fine but you sound like you are over doing cardio...are you doing any REAL lifting, not just cardio with weights??? What strength training are you doing? If all your energy is going to cardio you are not building strength, and in the end will see stalls. You need to be increasing muscle tissue...and cardio…

Sorry you feel so frustrated! I have been in your shoes. I found out I had a major thyroid problem. I would try a couple of things. First off, take a break from cardio exercise for 2 weeks and get your thyroid checked, especially your free t3, not just your tsh. Sounds like you have a thyroid issue. If you are low in…

eat what you want...just be sure to balance it with protein and keep it within the calorie range recommended by MFP. also it is best to eat those extra calories after your work out to replenish your glycogen levels in your liver. I eat a small dipped DQ ice cream once a week after my work outs when I really want a…
