When I started, my goal seemed pretty daunting. And it did take a while. I did what others said, though. I broke it up into smaller goals, and I knew if I didn't start, by that time the following year I would probably be heavier and wishing I had started.

Thanks everyone! I guess part of me felt like I was "giving up" by maintaining before hitting that ultimate goal weight. But you're right, I will hang out here for a while and go from there.

This, almost exactly. I am a smaller size now than I was when I weighed 137lbs, and I am currently 152lbs. My goal was 140 but I just switched to maintenance a few days ago after not losing anything for a while. I am a size 6, I feel good at this size. Now focusing on my running and endurance.

I quit smoking 9 years ago, and I had a 2 pack a day habit as well. I gained a lot of weight, but I wasn't actively trying NOT to gain. THIS, a thousand times. I'm a single mother and I work full time. So I had a thousand excuses not to do it, but taking an hour out of my day a few times a week and logging my food was a small sacrifice compared to knowing I will be around to see my children grow up.
