  • Definitely not finished yet but finally feel comfortable that I've had a enough change to merit posting a pic. First pic was in Oatman, AZ at about 289 lbs, second pic was last week at 226 lbs. Total lost so far is about 80 lbs with another 40 lbs to go.
  • OMG, amazing!! I'm showing your pictures to my daughter. Not going to push her, but your pictures show what hard effort can deliver. Congrats, you deserve every hug and like you receive.
  • My NSV is that another stack of clothes went to Goodwill last night. All of my 3x and 2x shirts as well as any pants over 38 waist though I'm wearing mostly 36 now. The good side is I get new clothes that are in style, the bad side is that my wife gets to drag me in a store to go shopping (the horror of it all). Only 48…
  • My coworkers have been great, even wanting to go to vegetarian restaurants instead of the grease pits that I used to love so much. I love the way some of the team have been quick to compliment and offer support when I feel like I'm not going to make it. I've only lost 60 of the 120 that I'm trying to lose, but I've noticed…
  • That is totally a victory. Every small step forward is important.
  • I am so stoked, my NSV is that my A1C was 8.6% in Sept. and 5.0% yesterday. Through logging what I eat every day (ok, almost every day), keeping an eye on the carbs, and working out in some way most days.
  • Isn't it funny how our successes never come in the form or at the time we plan?
  • Time for new mini goals: 1. To hit 239 before Feb 5th (249 at the moment) 2. Be able to run 1/2 mile at 6mph 3. 2 real pull ups. (can do 10 with resistance band assist) Once I hit those, I'll have to find some for March. If it was easy, I would have already done it.
  • Four Victories!!! 1. Wife noticed muscles 2. Cute lady we know mentioned that I am looking good, wife's elbow found my ribs 3. Had to buy a new belt because the old one didn't have enough holes 4. Ran 1/4 mile last night at 6 mph with a 3% incline. Then finished the rest of the three mile walk at 3 mph
  • Amazing and great on keeping it going!!
  • Congrats, best thoughts for the rest of your goal in the new year. You can do it!!!
  • I have two mini goals going: 1: 249.9 by New Year's day. I'm down to 251.5 this morning, starting to get the nerves 2: Be able to do two pull ups in a row on New Year's day. I can do one but feel like my arms are going to come off Here's to starting the New Year strong. Best hopes and wishes for everyone else on your…
  • Gave my suit to a men's shelter this weekend. Four months ago I was too big to fit in the suit. Thought I would wait till I lost a few inches and then wear it. Last week I wore it to work (folks thought I had an interview at lunch) and realized that I had missed the window, the suit was way too baggy. I'm hoping that some…
  • My new mini goal started on November 24th and runs through 1 Jan, 2018. I want to weigh 249.8 to start the new year. On Nov. 24th I weighed 259.7, less than 10lbs to go.
  • Starting Sept. 1st (not quite 90 days), I've lost 30lbs as of this morning. Only 86 more pounds to go <sigh> 5'10" and I'm keeping my carbs to 50 +=5 per meal and trying to workout more.
  • My NSV for this week is: my snug new pants I bought in September, because the old ones were getting too big, are too big. I hate clothes shopping but I'm looking forward to buying new pants to replace my new pants. Yay!!
  • The best thing about working with a group like this is there are so many experiences which can help folks keep things in perspective. It is difficult for me to contemplate the effects of our disease past the needles, but as azulvioeta said, they are there. I'm a horrible penpal, I even forget to text my wife, but if anyone…
  • I was inducted into the insulin resistant club last month (9/11 of all days) with an A1C of 8.6. I've told myself for years that I was not an addict and I could quit at any time. On 9/12, I started taking it seriously. It's less the risk of death and more that I am terrified of needles. Can't say that I'm a great motivator…
  • I have two mini goals, 1. Be able to order a pair of 5.11 tactical pants and have them fit, waist size goes to 44. and 2. My parents are coming to visit in three weeks. I'm 50 and I dread that look that says "You're fat, where did we go wrong?" I'm hoping to get the slacks so I don't mind the look. Only eightmore lbs to go.
  • I'm only down 21 lbs (99 more to go) but my cheeks have shrunk enough that when I was riding on the interstate I noticed that my helmet wasn't staying in place as well as it should. I've lost a bit of my pudgy cheeks and the helmet isn't as tight. On the one hand I'm thinking Yay!!!! It is starting to show, on the other…
  • 1. Turning point This is my second go at it. The first time I dropped down to 250, tore my MCL and just kind of went back to all of my bad habits. Gained all the weight back to 300lbs and I'm only 5' 10". Two months ago the headaches from high blood pressure got to the point where it became pretty clear that if I don't…
  • My NSGs are: 1. Fit comfortably in an airline seat 2. Do pull-ups again 3. Pass the Air Force fitness test that I last passed in 1998
  • I hit the last hole on my belt today. Tomorrow (teaching tonight) I'm going through my closet and remove any piece of clothing marked as 2x (or above) and pants with a waist > 44.
  • Can I write a script to update the time or would that be tacky?
  • The thing that motivates me the most is: (drum roll please) My leather belt keeps twisting and folding over because of my waist line. Well that and the fact that I'm tired of not fitting in booths at restaurants and having the tray table sit on top of my stomach on an airplane. Not to mention the looks from others on…
  • Individually, each meal would have been ok. What has bummed me out is the fact that it was so easy to go back to my old habits with just a little push from stress. Now that I've got it out there, I can look at it and say - Don, pay attention and focus on the prize.
  • Ok, confession time. My wife and I went out geocaching in the desert yesterday to get some steps and I got the truck stuck in an arroyo (back east it would be called a wash). Instead of getting in a workout, I banged my knee, and had to swallow my pride and ask my son to drive out and get me out of the sugar sand. I think…
  • When I'm working on a sticky problem, I tend to pace the hallways. I'm trying to talk the ergo folks at work into installing a sit/stand system in my office.
  • I put our treadmill in the front room of our house. Not only is it in my face it is the center of attention when you walk in the house. I had to do this so I wouldn't "forget" to work out.
