she's 260 pounds and 29 years old - 1800 calories is in no way too much. definitely see an endocrinologist and ask about PCOS. since you take birth control it's possible that some of the symptoms are less severe.

do you have a medical degree? telling someone to ditch the meds when you have absolutely no idea about their medical history or diagnosis is really stupid.
-
I don't know where the heck you find those prices - whole wheat breat is at least $3 a loaf.....not sure where you get peanut butter for $2...block of cheese - is that real cheese or cheese food?
-
I am amazed at the number of people who don't like vegetables - I love them and eat tons of them. Also, when I eat unhealthy food I feel horrible - which isn't to say I never eat healthy food but once in a while as opposed to all the time.

If finances are really really tight (have to choose between rent and food), have you considered getting student loans?
-
this is probably harsh, but what about all the money you were spending on cigarettes?
-
and if you dont' have salad ingredients or leftovers to thaw?

whole foods and wegmans carries grass fed meat.....not sure about free-range chickens. I order grass fed beef from La Cense Beef in Montana.

never ever take the elevator. go to the gym. do active excursions (on my alaskan cruise we did a 2 hour kayak excursion and walked into town in each port). try a little of everything on the cruise (I'm a picky eater but one day they had an alaskan food buffet with reindeer and a few other native foods. I had a bite of 2 or…

Excellent point. I cant say this is acceptable to me because it is something I really do strugge with. I would easily choose cutting out the cable, cellphone, etc to afford quality food for all. I could have made that decion unilaterally, I suppose. I can guess how my wife would react to that! But I do try to build…

So you are feeding your kids crap while you eat good healthy food? [/quote] LOL. Yes. I feel terribly guilty. At least I did until this morning when I saw an empty Natures Pride whole wheat bread bag and low processed deli turkey after my teens fixed their lunch. On one hand I was proud they made good food choices but on…

So you are feeding your kids crap while you eat good healthy food? SMH sorry, but you need to find some other place to cut costs. there are certainly healthy, inexpensive options not to mention the health cost later on.
-
I don't understand. what is the rest of your family eating?
-
I think throwing the food out is rude too. The only exception would be if they keep pushing and pushing. but if someone offers you food and you don't plan to eat it, just say no thank you. If I bring in a treat I would prefer that only the people who are actually going to eat it take some rather than wasting it.
-
i don't care how much humor he said it with, it's still rude. Basically he's saying that anyone that does eat it is putting poison in their body. What's wrong with a simple no thank you?

I have the removable plates. Just take them off and put them in the dishwasher and the grill fits on the bottom pull out drawer of a cabinet. love my foreman....

except the child HASN'T been to the pediatrician so we have no idea whether the ped agrees with the school's findings or not.
-
OMG the child wasn't told....the parents were....unless they are complete idiots and said something to the child, the child has no idea what is going on. Seriously???? these responses just get more and more ridiculous.....and of course the OP hasn't been back to say whether or not the parents are going to take the child to…
-
they offered a home visit, you don't have to accept it. yeah, I'm sure organizations have so much time and money that they can remove a child from a home because there's a dirty dish in the sink. Look at the conditions some kids are living in and nothing can be done. Paranoid much?
-
what action? they sent a note home.....
-
really? so you can tell just by looking at any single person what their BMI is and whether they are classified as overweight, obese or morbidly obese? at the child's weight, just a few pounds is the difference between healthy and unhealthy. I do not see what the big deal is sending a letter home to the parents suggesting…
-
did you read anything that was posted? BMI for children is different than for adults. and based on the data FOR CHILDREN (of which she is), she is considered obese.
-
I totally agree with everything you've said and don't understand all the posts that are saying pull her out of school, tell the school to F*&K off, etc.....clearly reading comprehension is a major problem on this thread.
-
ummm the data on actual healthy weights in children comes from the CDC and based on their data, the child in the OP is classified as obese, so I'm not sure what 'data' you think the school board needs.
-
yeah that!! some of the comments are just ridiculous. You would think that the nurse sat the girl down and said 'guess what, you're obese' when I think we all know that didn't happen. It sounds like the parents and grandmother would prefer to be in denial and get everyone all worked up over the big bad school rather than…
-
what's the problem with teaching kids about nutrition? it's clear that a lot of parents aren't doing a great job at it.
-
I don't understand all the people saying the little girl is going to have issues from being labeled 'obese'. Does anyone really believe that the school nurse told her to her face that she was fat or obese? My guess is that the child was given a letter in a sealed envelope to take home to her parents. and what is the big…

I eat the morningstart farms sausage links or patties every morning. I can't eat regular sausage anymore - gives me wicked heartburn. It's about the only protein item I eat for breakfast - eggs make me nauseous.
-
seriously??? all animals are able to feel pain so I would think they can feel other emotions too.
-
plus they can be leaner than some chicken and turkey.
