I also think that many "friends" consider what we're going through as a fitness phase and that we'll eventually "return to normal." What they don't realize is how much positive energy it takes to become physically fit and that positive energy opens up other doors in life. I totally agree with the cliche "AwesomeSauce"…

So many inspirational people on this thread!

I'm 46 and started running a few years ago. Now I'm addicted to running. When I started I could only run about 4.8 mph. Now I'm up to an average of 6.5 mph when running 3-5 miles. When the weather is ideal I'll put on my favorite running shoes and run for 11 miles. I used to have a sore hip and sore knee. All those aches…

Just saw this board for the first time. Love hearing about positive experiences from other members in their 40s

I agree. The overly restricting/binge is a hard cycle for anyone to overcome and it's extremely difficult not emotional-eat during that. Good tips

Yes! They get better! It takes a while... as in many months.

I have quinoa for breakfast about four mornings a week. The Digest Diet has a great "Creamy Quinoa" recipe with non-fat evaporated milk, honey, and flax seed.

46 and hoping to drop the last 5-10 lbs.

I only have whey protein after a tough work-out. It's not to lose weight, but to keep my lean muscle (which in the long run helps lose weight). I prefer to get my protein from other sources, like greek yogurt, but drinking a whey protein shake after my work-out is a better way to replenish after a big calorie burn.

I feel that the older you are the more selective you become and settling is never an option... but I'm single so perhaps my reasoning is flawed.

Great idea about the 5 lbs safe zone. I try to keep my safe zone to 3 lbs.

I'm alright having a cheat day, especially if I"m going for a long run the next day.

In addition to being raised to clean my plate, I was also raised on comfort foods (home baked goods, potatoes, breads, etc). That's how my very skinny mom showed her love for us. She always stopped eating those foods after a few bites, I never could. Counting calories keeps me from over eating those comfort foods. I…

Thanks for posting. This is a great explanation and really rings true with me. Each week I have my "Friday Morning Weight" and my "Monday Morning Weight" since I tend to be more strict during the week. I always compare Fridays to Fridays and Mondays to Mondays when tracking my weight and try not freak out when I jump on…

This is a great post topic and great question I started running/jogging a couple years ago. Started off small (1/4 mile) and topped off at 10 miles. On and off I have tremendous pain. Now I have settled running 5 miles at a time, three days a week. I have learned the hard way that great running shoes are crucial... and…

I'm a little over 5' 6" I was measured at the gym by a trainer using calipers. At the time I weighed 141 and was at 20% body fat

Great post!

Yes. Now that I have Fitbit, I would have a hard time doing MyFitnessPall without it!

Two issues once you get down to the last 10... (1) not slipping back to old habits and gaining (I gained some back and now am within two pounds of the original loss) and (2) fighting those stubborn last pounds that hanging tight. How do you set goals? I am 46 and 5 '6.5" and I work out so I have some good lean muscle.…

I'm 46 and looking to lose that last 10 pounds. Add me!

I have 10 pounds left to lose too and I've been struggling to lose it for several months.

I'm 46 and a Fitbit user too (user - 24S8V8). Although I've come a long way in the last couple of years, the last 10 pounds to go have been haunting me for awhile and I've been stuck for several months. Please feel free to add me. Good Luck!
