I do kind of agree with you on deciding how slow I should be losing. I hover between setting my goal to 1 lb or half a lb per week. I think anything over 1 lb per week for us may be a bit too aggressive. I have also started working out and have upped my cals a bit to preserve any muscle I can.

I think you just need to tighten up your logging. I am 5'7". Started off this new year at 177 and I am now down to 165. I'm very happy with my progress. I started my journey at 185 a while back and used to eat 1200 but that is just too low for the long term! Been eating anywhere from 1300 to 1900 each day depending on…

But, letting yourself just eat whatever you want isn't working for you either. If I were you, I'd try to track and eat at a reasonable goal (say, 1700 - 1800 or so per day) for a month. After a month of counting everything, you'd at least have a real concrete idea of the calories in the foods you eat regularly. Even if you…

Yes, you can use this site to help track your carbs. However, it can only help with tracking. Ultimately you are the only person who can help with how much you intake. I tried a LCHF diet in the past, but found that just counting calories was more sustainable for me personally.

Why do you think you have to stick to such a low calorie goal? Don't try to lose way too fast. What does MFP give you when you set weight loss to 1 lb per week? Unless you are very short and almost at your goal, then if will almost definitely be over 1200 per day. You can probably lose without counting, but it will…

But..But.. Vodka has 0 carbs

Not everyone on those shows loses the weight they set out to lose in that time frame, and that is with the personal trainer! The episode last night, the girl only lost about 25 lbs over the course of 4 months when her goal was 50, I think. She still looked great at the end of the episode with only half her goal met. She…

I like to buy one with a really long stem and slice it up and make mini pizzas out of that. Here is a visualization of what I'm talking about: http://empoweredsustenance.com/butternut-squash-pizza-crust-gaps-paleo/ I put tomato sauce, fresh basil, mozz cheese, and italian chicken sausage on mine. Then with the leftover…

I've stopped focusing just on weight and looks. Try to have other goals for inspiration so that you can be motivated that way. Right now, my next goals aside from just losing weight are being able to do 10 real pushups (not the knee ones) and also being able to do a pull up. Having fitness/strength goals means you will be…

I just recently (like, this month) started experimenting with protein powder for days that I don't get enough in my diet (because I have started working out/weightlifting). Looking back at my diet, there were days where I was barely getting 30g of protein, so that is why I have the powder as a backup. I have been better…

Agreed. My nana passed away after surgery when she was 80 because she had to have part of her intestines removed (or something similar - I was younger when it happened). I have had stomach issues since I can remember, so anything, even if it might be a placebo effect, that gets everything working normally is worth it to me.

I take probiotics every day. I've had stomach issues since I was a little kid. I honestly don't know if they work or not, but I kind of believe they do, for me, at least. My mom got me into them after she had a rough time with c.diff, she said they helped her tremendously. The one time I stopped taking them for over a week…

Sounds about right. Just remember in about a month, if you are losing too slow or too fast, then adjust your calories up or down to get to the weekly weight loss you want. Also, remember to readjust your calories every 10lbs or so as you lose.
-
I'm not gonna comment on your calorie goal. If you want to eat 1200 for a little while, then whatever. But - on your meal timing - It is not extreme to save calories for dinner. I do this quite often. Many days I only have a few cups of coffee and some tomato soup with cheese (sometimes I also have a snack of almonds or…

Agreed. Maybe OP has been at 117 before and knows there is a difference in appearance between that and 120. I don't really see why the 3lbs matters for everyday life. Unless OP is aiming to lose those 3lbs for an upcoming beach vacation or special event, I don't get it. But, it is a perfectly healthy weight, so if that's…

Are you measuring yourself in other ways? How clothes fit, how you look, etc? You are definitely a healthy weight - if I were you, I'd stop focusing on the scale and focus on measurements, bodyfat, etc... It just seems weird to be so hung up over 3 lbs... Perhaps a goal like losing half an inch or being able to fit into…

Stop setting these rules about how you can't eat at certain times or you can't eat certain foods. This is completely missing the point and unnecessary. Why would you think that you can follow rules like that but you can't follow a calorie goal? Just set MFP to lose 1 lb per week and eat the calories it tells you. This is…

Yes, your math is correct. You just need to determine if your burns are actually correct. Try your numbers out for a month, and if you are losing too fast or too slow, adjust your intake. I only mention that you may need to adjust, as I am 5'7"/28 F/165lb and my goal is to lose 1lb per week. MFP has me eating 1370 for that…

Yeah. It helps to have little goals along the way to the ultimate goal. I use the app HappyScale, and you can break up your main goal into little goals. My little trick is not to worry about the future or the past. Just focus on meeting your goals for this ONE DAY. Just do your best meeting your calorie and workout goals…

I am 5'7" female. I started my journey at 185. I am around 165 now. Anything under 159 for us is in the BMI "healthy" range. My next goal is to get to around 155 and then I'm gonna drop to ".5 lbs per week" and focus a lot more on body fat and body composition/measurements and drop to probably 145 or so slowly. I say…

I don't think it matters. The most important part is motivation, consistency, and patience. Do whatever works for you that you find sustainable. You just have to want it.

Everything I've read about refeed days are just to prevent binges and something about leptin? I don't really know. The biggest benefit may very well be mental. Why don't you try it out and then see if it works for you. Even if other people who do them give you advice, you still won't know exactly how it works for you until…

This is one of my motivations to lose weight!

Try eating back 25-50%. Be consistent with how much you eat back so you can get 2 or three weeks of results. So, pick an amount between 25-50% and always eat back that amount every day. After 3 weeks, you'll see if you're losing too slow or too fast or just enough and adjust from there. Don't factor in the burn 60. Never…

How tall are you and what is your "ideal weight". Perhaps your goal is a bit too ambitious? `100 lbs is great to have lost! Good job! Do you have excess skin that may be the cause of some extra lbs you aren't losing? Otherwise, I agree with others. If you aren't losing, then you are overeating, not undereating.

Okay? And alcohol is a diuretic. I always weigh less the morning after I drink. Probably because I don't drink water while I'm drinking. So, I pee a ton in one night without replacing my pee with anything but a few ounces of whiskey or wine, which are diuretics and make me pee again. Anyways, doesn't matter. It's all just…

Could you open your diary so we can see where there might be room for adjustments?

I am 28F, 5'7", and currently 167ish. I am eating an average of 1400 cals per day (plus eating back most exercise cals). I started the new year at 177lbs and lost 10 lbs so far this year eating around that amount ( I was off my diet for a little while, so some of that was water weight being lost in the beginning). So, you…

Usually when I drink the scale goes down 2 or 3 lbs because I'm dehydrated then up 4 or 5 over the next few days as I re-hydrate and then I lose it in 1-4 days after that, depending on my diet those following days. And, I agree 20 lbs is a lot. Are you pretty heavy to begin with? If you are over 250 lbs, then 20 lbs seems…

Happyscale for iphone. I also use an app called "seconds" to plan and time some circuit workouts.
