LolBroScience - my experience with ketogenics has been a reduction of 6% body fat since June 2014 (when I started) - I was at 40% and I'm shrinking my body fat by using it for energy. I work out 2x per week (crossfit) with a trainer and I am building muscles I didn't even know I had. :) I get the impression you're not a…

That is a beautiful dress - I too am working towards an event in January (Mardi Gras Bal - my 17 year old son is a Prince this year!) :) How fun that your company has a theme for their party! Very Cool!! Happy Holidays to everyone!

I follow the 80/15/5 rule of thumb. 80% of my calories (~1400/day) are from fats, 15% from protein and 5% carbs (not to exceed 20g per day NET). As rprussell2004 stated though it depends on how strict you're being. When I coach people on eating this way I typically have them start at 100g carbs per day - just to get used…

CONGRATULATIONS!! I too have been eating LCHF since June and while I have only lost 35 lbs I have reduced my cholesterol in half and I feel amazing. No bloat, no wheat inflammation - and my love for butter is probably one that shouldn't be legal. ;) I have a friend who started following me and her husband is a diabetic and…

I don't count calories - per se. I pay attention to them but I count my macros more - (fat/carb/protein/sugar/fiber). I too would be interested in the article.

This is interesting....I may just stick to the store bought since it doesn't yield much and I absolutely do not have a green thumb. ;)

You can add salt to your water - it doesn't taste near as good as a powerade zero though (for me personally). Or better yet - just lick the salt off your margarita rim. ;) I love margarita's - haven't had many since starting keto though. And I live in Louisiana - we have a frozen drink drive thru on every corner. I miss my…

You'll get through it. If you like Powerade - they make the zero version - drink a couple of those to get your electrolytes up.

TrophyWife - regarding the scale. I too have the SAME issue. Here's what I have done to help with that - I still weigh - but I don't really care what it says because for me this isn't a diet anymore - it's a full on lifestyle change. I have goals, and I'm working towards them - BUT - I dropped a fair amount of weight at…

If you want chili - make chili: This is one of my favorites: - - http://www.ruled.me/40-minute-keto-chili/

Use this calculator to determine your macros - it also has a link to "guesstimate" your bf %. Scroll to the bottom of the link for the women's photo's. http://www.ruled.me/keto-calculator/

In this journey I have learned that measurements mean so much more than the scale. I have only lost 33 lbs in 6 months (and I have 30 more to lose) - BUT - I went from a size 16 to a 12 in pants. Don't get discouraged by the scale - you are changing whether you see it or not!

I use this calculator to figure out my macros: http://www.ruled.me/keto-calculator/ I typically stick with the 80/15/5 rule of thumb to make things easy - but the calculator helps if you want to look at your activity levels too. If you browse the recipes, you can find a better dressing for your salad. I make my own…

Best part is - I'm shrinking:
-
I started June 9th - I'm down 33 lbs.

Thank you both. I am familiar with Jimmy Moore and his work. I have read Keto Clarity (ok, more skimmed for highlights). I will have my levels checked again soon (after having eaten this way for a longer amount of time - more than 2 months) and see where I am before I make any adjustments. I know I'm doing the right things…

Ok - I have worn out my poor calculator - but I get it now. The concern is that my HDL/LDL ratio is too high. I need to increase my HDL and lower (even further) my LDL. I will continue to work on that. Keep in mind that these results are after eating keto for 2 months (june/july). The reduction of total cholesterol was…

I do crossfit 2x per week and cardio/weight training 3x per week - I do not eat back my calories. I do, however, increase my protein on weight training days - not an exact science with my macros - I'll just have a spoonful of peanut butter or a protein shake post workout.
-
I also put lemons in my water - gives it some flavor. I love water so I'm not much help in that department. I have found that my electrolytes get low and I have started drinking powerade zero about 2x per week. It helps and I get a "treat" in a different flavor beverage. Caffeine will dehydrate you - so use caution with…

Thank you - I do have a potentially stupid question (as I have not started my research) - but is there a difference in the TG/HDL and the CHOL/HDL ratios? The reason I ask is because my results state the Chol/HDL ratio should be in a range of 2.8 - 6.6. Initially it was 6.98 (high) and the latest test shows it falls…

My doctor only asked that I add a fish oil supplement to my regimen each day. Which I have (I used the NutraSea+D) - I will have my lipids checked again in January. (And then again by work for our health fair in April.) I will address your concerns with my doctor - but first I need to do some research to understand exactly…

I would not drink alcohol until you see how your body reacts to ketosis. Alcohol will kick you out of ketosis and set you back. I have had vodka with water and used a "mio" flavor drop to just have a social drink on occasions. I find it gives me a terrible headache though. I do use crystal light about 1x per week. I mostly…

Actually I did have a typo - Triglycerides are correct - the Cholesterol number in April should be 293 and in August 169. (I was reading a line above). Thanks for catching that. The other numbers are correct.
-
Y'all feel free to add me - keto adapted for 6 months now. I will warn - I suck at the diary thing. I just don't make time to track. I could use some motivation in that department.
-
I had the same concerns - In April of this year my work did a health screen - this was pre-keto for me. I began ketogenics in June of this year. In August I had my lipids checked again - below are my results - I hope this helps you: April Triglycerides - 245 August Triglyceride 131 April Cholesterol - 160 August…

1 tbsp peanut butter (all natural), 1 tbsp coconut oil and 2 tbsp heavy cream. I mix it all up in a bowl and divide into about 3-4 servings (spoonfuls) - place them in the freezer and when I get a craving or just want something I grab one - they are a great "fat bomb" and keep me going for hours. I'll also make protein…

I eat fat in the form of coconut oil, heavy cream, butter, peanut butter, macadamia nuts, almonds, cream cheese, sour cream, ranch dressing etc. They are high in both fat and calories but eating more fat will help you not feel hungry if eaten in the right amounts. I will eat 80% of my calories from fat, so that lends to…

I checked my measurements this weekend and I have lost an inch just about every location except my arms. (they were .5 inch) :) And the scale finally moved down 2 lbs. I guess I just find it VERY STRANGE that my scale stays EXACTLY the same. I was 192.4 on every scale I used, then I was 191.1 for so long. I mean the .1…

Thanks for this - very informative and what I was kinda looking for. I had a full thryoidectomy in January - which was cause for some of my weight gain and hormone issues - which is what brought me to ketogenics. I had never thought about the liver condition, I'll keep trudging along and see if I see improvement. Thank you…

I took my measurements in the very beginning. I have not re-measured yet. So you think 3 weeks at the EXACT same weight is ok/normal? I'm beginning to think my scale is broken. HA!
