  • The Alicia Silverstone cookbook is pretty good. The book is called The Kind Diet and I've liked most of the recipes I've tried from it. I'm in the same boat, trying to eat less meat but know that I don't want to do it completely. I cook a lot of Indian dishes since their vegetarian food is nice and spicy. I use Bal…
  • Here is a good digestible overview and timeline produced by my employer. I hope it helps! http://www.sterlinghsa.com/blog/tag/healthcare-reform-timeline/
  • Skirts! Oh wait, you're a dude right?
  • Lemon pepper is nice for a spice when roasting.
  • Thanks for posting this! You saved me $70 and now I have a cheap date with my husband this weekend.
  • Hello! Here is a link to the product so you can see the details. I live in Northern California but can get it at Luckys and Nob Hill. Best of luck in finding it! http://www.betteroats.com/oats/raw/chai_spiced/
  • I like the chai spiced RAW oatmeal made by Better Oats. 160 calories. I have a protein heavy breakfast so this does the trick if I have mid-morning hunger. Edamame beans are great to snack on too in the afternoon and give your hands something to do to get them out of the shell and slow down the eating.
  • I use quinoa as a substitute for rice in most dishes. This is a very tasty recipe: http://www.thismamacooks.com/2009/12/quinoa-fried-rice-with-pork.html
  • Hi Super! I could have written this post 6 months ago. I think what I have learned the most that is worthy of passing along is to have patience. The changes you are making are ones that you want to keep for many years so if it takes awhile to lose the weight, know that you are setting yourself up for a long term success. I…
  • This does the trick for me. I add in a Morningstar breakfast patty, a pinch of shredded cheese and diced vegetables for a breakfast that fills me up. The egg-whites and patties can be purchased at Costco for a lot less than regular grocery stores too! http://www.hungry-girl.com/week/weeklydetails.php?isid=1784
  • Kale Chips!!! So good. http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/baked-kale-chips/Detail.aspx
  • Yoga Burn? I use it but I don't quite consider it traditional yoga, more poses with cardio-moves so you really don't focus on the pose but the more the action. I like it but it's not really yoga...
  • Thank you! That drives me nuts too. Happy Friday everyone!
  • I'm with you on this! If I were to get to the "healthy" range, I'm not sure I would look healthy at all. The whole BMI scale needs to be reevaluated. I've already been denied for individual medical insurance coverage due to my weight so at least it has given me a push to get healthier. The funny thing is to think that I…
  • I'm in! I'm always looking for new tips. Eating fewer processed foods seems to be cutting down on a lot of our waste/waist! We are lucky to live in a city that collects organic waste on a weekly basis. Since we are eating more fruits and veggies, the excess trimmings and peels go right in a sealed container I keep on the…
  • Double the meat for protein (as long as it is a lean meat) and eat it open-faced so you only eat half of the bread.
  • I've made this and really liked it. I'm sure there are healthier versions but this has a lot of good nutrients and the spicy/sweet combo can't be beat. Enjoy! http://recipes.prevention.com/Recipe/HoneySlowBakedBeans.aspx

  • I make 3 weeks worth of healthy muffins and freeze them taking out only what I need for a week. I've also taken to making chewy oatmeal bars from scratch. You can add in whatever you like, nuts, dried fruit, dark chocolate. Staying away from processed food has changed how I feel dramatically and is nice on the pocketbook…
  • I agree with the gradual approach others have expressed. Become an obsessive label reader and experiment with making favorite items from scratch, you'd be surprised about how much money you can save. My goal is to not purchase anything with high fructose corn syrup and it has been an eye-opening experiment. Also, when it…
