First time here. Hi all. Started at 340, 5'7", 67 yo female in great health other than weight. Family trait! I have, as of today, lost 65 pounds over the last year. My goal is 235 by our annual Christmas trip to Disneyworld. My biggest problem when dieting is my metabolism shutting down. Also, I cannot eat any sugar or…

I will abide by your decision regarding my house. Thank you.

I read this lengthy post. It is wonderful information. Sensible. Thank you for taking the time to share it.

I can't find any personal stories on line about it-only side effects, etc. It's very scary.

I have decided it's not for me. My doctor has lost 50 pounds on it, but as my daughter pointed out, counting calories doesn't have side effects, doesn't cost anything, and can be done forever. Much better option.

Thank you so much for the "leangains" info. It was fascinating. I believe I am finally ok with what MY body is asking of me. After only 65 years!

Sad, but probably true! :-)

I have had this twice in my right knee. It takes time, but it will heal. You can probably do the stationary bike and swim until it is healed. Good luck. Praying for a great outcome!

This is a great board. Thanks for being here. I am one month in and unmotivated right now. Hopefully things will get better.

I would say you win and this needs to go no further.

I also wanted to mention that in my doctoral work I visited many AA meetings. I found it interesting that almost all of the members present snacked on hard candy and chocolate throughout the meeting. It was in bowls on the tables. It was actually non-stop snacking. I first thought maybe it was because they couldn't smoke,…

It's exactly the same for me. I think, "Oh, one little bite of this danish isn't going to hurt" and suddenly it's six months later and I've gained 15 pounds.

This is fine for some people. For me, artificial sugars light me up just like regular old sugar. They initiate many of the same carb cravings. It's an individual thing, of course.
-
Yes. It's called OA and most of the members have strong issues with sugar.

I think of myself as an addict because of sugar. I believe it is absolutely connected to other addictions. Kelcie, you are doing great and you have every right to express yourself in those terms. They aren't owned by AA, NA, or any other A.

I deleted the PM.

Yes, but by design I am low carb and not really counting calories. Thanks for your response.
