  • Thanks everyone. Xhuerax- for the first 5 years or so I checked my weight often- especially the first year for sure-lol. In the last couple of years I haven't really been on the scale at all. I have been doing this weight loss - gain thing for a long time so I know when I have put a few pounds on. I go mainly on how I…
  • WOW - where did the time go? Funny I started this in 2011 and forgot I did-lol. Looking back after 8 years and the journey I have been on and what life has thrown my way has been interesting. Did I gain all the weight back--- Nope! I have gained some weight back but only about 20 pounds or so( after small losses and gains…
  • Wow. Great Job. Your story sounds a lot like mine. I started the day after I turned 49. I started at 320 pounds and the day I turned 50 I ran my first half marathon at 175 pounds. Congratulations on all your success!
  • Use your training runs closer to the race to determine what to wear. You will get a feel as to what works and what doesn't. That is what I use all training runs for, trying a new piece of clothing to see if it chafes, or a new supplement to see if it works or upsets my stomach. Also I agree with some of the other people…
  • Maintenance will be more difficult than dieting. At least that is what I found. I went from 320 pounds to 175. I did mine by watching what I ate and running. I am 51. It is easy to see the difference when you are losing and eating right. It is when you stop losing and maintain and still do the exercise and eating right…
  • I started running at 49. Weighed over 300 pounds. On my 50th birthday, at 175 pounds, I ran my first 1/2 marathon. Now another year later and I have run 2 more 1/2 marathons and am looking at doing a full marathon. I was the chubby little kid that turned into a rather large adult-lol, so never ,ever ran before. Now there…
  • I don't have any before and afters but I started the day after my 49th birthday at 320 pounds and ran a 1/2 marathon on my 50th birthday at 175 pounds. It can be done. Just takes perserverance and a lot of hard work.
  • Great Job!! I see you are in Calgary- I am in Edmonton. Now it is maintenance time. Have you thought about what you are going to do to maintain. I have been maintaining with small ups and downs for about a year now. I lost 145 pounds last year- in fact I am celebrating my 1 year maintenance anniversary this week-haha. .…
  • You look fantastic. I know how much hard work you had to put in to look like that. Congrats!
  • Edmonton here. Know Collingwood very well though. Spent the first 3 years of my life there. Loved the area. I still have family there. Welcome!
  • I am over 50. Started running 1/2 marathons on my 50th birthday.
  • I am from Alberta
  • I have lost 145 pounds and am 50. I did it through eating properly and running. I went from 320 pounds to 175 pounds at 5'11". I used MFP for about 80 pounds of the weight loss. Exercise was the trick though.
  • Welcome. You can add me, as well if you would like?
  • Glad to see you are sticking around. It does take a lot of patience and determination to get the weight down to where you want it to be. I went from 320 pounds down to my current 175. Believe me when i tell you- IT WAS WORTH IT!! Every cake, cookie and pudding NOT eaten- every mile I ran, every exercise class I took. You…
  • Congratulations!! 2nd, that is fantastic!! You should be SO proud!!
  • You look fantastic!! Good Luck in the contest,
  • I have been in maintenance for the last 6 weeks. To tell you the truth it is harder than the dieting. I too am scared to add calories- don't want to end up where I was before. I am also training for a 1/2 marathon so need the extra calories but can't seem to get them down my throat. I have added probably 2-300 calories in…
  • I definitely know how you feel. I started at 320 pounds. I am now 175 pounds. It takes a lot of sacrifice, hard work and perseverance but you can do it. Good luck to you!!
  • How are the maintainers out there doing? Any tips? Any maintainers out there that gained again so that they are trying to lose again. I am just trying to get an idea of what works and what doesn't.
  • I have been maintaining for a about a month now. I still am scared to add too many calories to my diet in case I gain weight. I am still 175 pounds and am eating between 1700-2000 calories. I am not eating any junk on a regular basis although I have been adding pretzels and salsa to my snack list. Not really that bad for…
  • This has been my first full week of maintenance. I guess it went pretty well- I didn't gain-lol - I am still 175 pounds at 5'11". I am still not eating enough but I have added some calories. I am not sure how fast to go to my maintenance limit but I will try to get there in a month or so. My maintenance calories are over…
  • I just started maintenance this week . Feel free to add me to your maintenance buddy list.
  • Great Job!! I ran my first 10K on March 20. I am a little older than you at 49 but I loved it. I am now training for a 1/2 marathon in August. I guess it is a natural progression from the 10K . Good Luck on the race!!
  • We actually do an underwear run up here for charity. People run in all kinds of underwear and pajamas!!
  • Great job! Keep up the good work!!
  • Thank you, Rosey.
  • Thanks, I may try it. Didn't know whether to believe all those testimonials on the message boards. You don't know how many of them are true-lol. I think it is my next step though as it should help with toning and putting on some muscle.
  • Thanks. I am running mine in late August. Good luck on your run!!
  • You can do it!! The last 10 pounds are the hardest but don't give up!!
