  • You want to look like a yorkie terrier? ;) I like New Rules of Lifting for Women (mentioned above). I aim for 3 full body (60 minute) weight sessions per week. I don't split my workouts because I cannot make it in 4 times, and sometimes I can't get the full 3 either. I want to hit my major groups each session so I know I'm…
  • I find the coconut milk is much better than the soy-based ones.
  • We've got very similar stats. Originally I started out after the birth of my son at 191, and got down to the mid 170s. This time around (a few years later) I'm aiming for my next push down into the 150s, I hope.
  • Another vote for New Rule of Lifting for Women. I started in January and look foreward to getting into the free weights section of the gym 3x per week. I took a friend last week and showed her how to do squats, and as we put the weights on for my set she ohhh'd and said "I can SEE how this could get addictive!" Then she…
  • I was a volunteer at a clinic, and the nurse I worked for started doing long-term tracking as we were seeing some significant changes from woman to woman on various BC methods. Our intake chat with a woman always included "each body is different and we might have to change your pill to better suit *your* body chemistry".…
  • We spend less now. Also, if you look at a bag of groceries and figure out how much actual FOOD is in the bag -- you get more bang for your buck eating well. I was pondering this today as, at the gym, they were playing that extreme couponing show on one of the TVs. Some woman bought two buggies of sugar/corn syrup water…
  • Oh, and another vote for New Rules of Lifting for Women.
  • Nobody should be kept out of the weight area due to fear (aside from the fear of how awesome you'll be once you start lifting heavy). I started lifting mid January and this week I'm at 135lb squats (3 sets of 6). I struggle with my lunges due to my silly hip flexor, so that has stalled out at 40lbs (4 sets of 8 reps). I…
  • Your son is at a great age to do "races" with -- that was right when my son started getting into the notion of how *fast* we could run. Soccer ball - one person kicks and you race to the ball Park - race to the tree and back Piggyback rides - he has to hold on while you run as fast as you can Horseback rides - push ups and…
  • I, too, have had excellent results on my back pain following NROL4W. I'm doing a modified program as per my physiotherapist's suggestions, but 8 weeks in and I'm so impressed with what it is doing. You look smokin!
  • We have very similar stats :) If I'm reading you right, you are thinking of two options to "jump start" a bigger loss. The 30day shred or doing some (heavy?) lifting. But then is the issue that you know going forward you don't want to maintain the 30 Day Shred intensity or the lifting for muscle? So will it backfire in…
  • Have you altered both food and exercise? I'm not sure how that might impact your energy. Bottom line, you're moving in the right direction but still might need to give it more time to feel all the changes. Consider taking measurements. I had to go up a jean size due to weight shifting off my gut and onto my butt (in a good…
  • Are you working out as well? Lifting? Last month I gained 5lbs after 6 weeks of being awesome (even more awesome than usual and after my body analysis came back saying I had dropped 1% body fat). The 5lbs stuck around for 7 days, then it left and took another 5 with it. I figured it was my body just messing with me. You…
  • As a really nice starter - New Rules of Lifting for Women. Gives the chit chat that can help get right into it. And echoing others above me, I only really started 8 weeks ago and have seen my lift weights go up so much than I had ever thought possible.
  • Husband and I iked 50 minutes with 4yr old and his soccer ball. That means hiking with sessions of sprints on any flat stretch as we chased the ball and each other. We continually boggle at how much energy kids have. He still wanted to run around outside after we got back ;)
  • ^^ Thanks TurquoiseSky. I just started *really* lifting weights in mid January (well, end of December but then we got the flu and I was flat out for two weeks). I aim for heavy weights, don't go to failure but keep something on hand as I don't have a spotter, and usually do 3 sets of 8-10 reps. My squats have gone from…
  • We seem to be very similar. We do have healthy fats, but we don't want to add on more just for the sake of calories. And when adding them into other meals balanced with veg and fruit -- it is still tough to then just eat as much food as necessary to get the total calories.
  • I'm too old and cranky to hang out with people who talk like this, so I'm not much help to you here. Sounds kind of toxic to me, and I'd look to surround myself with people who are helping me in this world - not being a big pill. I imagine there are some awesome things that keep you guys hanging out, so I'd just call her…
  • I'm a semi-vegan (due to proximity more than anything) and my husband is full vegan who is also limiting some other foods due to a few health issues that suddenly came up this year. He finds it *very* difficult to hit his calories each day and we eat SO MUCH FOOD! There's a reason why Hank the triceratops on Dinosaur Train…
  • I aim for 3x per week, and I don't split my workouts. I'm loosely following New Rules of Lifing for Women, but with a modified program right now due to a few goals set out by my physiotherapist. My long version comes in just under an hour, a shorter version can be done in 30 min. Deadlift Squats Lunges Row Bench Press…
