  • You can cut calories by using a pizza base mix or filo pastry instead of shortcrust.
  • First are your sure you're drinking enough? Your body can often mistake thirst for hunger. Second, some foods are digested faster than others.Might be an idea to look at the gycaemic index of what you're eating, low GI foods are digested slower than high GI ones. Also, high GI ones cause a blood sugar spike which then…
  • I'm 69, have always had weight problems. Had managed over the years to lose 110 lbs but put a lot back on comfort eating after my husband died.I've always been a walker but find it difficult to walk long distances now with arthritis so I swim with friends instead and also do a fitness DVD for older people. Regarding meals…
  • As said, keep a food diary. Make a note of when and what you eat, this will help you log your danger times. Plan your meals for the week and only buy what you need to make them. Keep snacks healthy, such as fruit, nuts, or veggie sticks with a low-cal dip. But don't go overboard, although fruits and nuts have valuable…
  • No! Counterproductive- if you go too low your body will go into starvation mode and hang on to the fat. If you're exercising you need to eat sufficient nutrients. You can lose a lot the first week or two of a diet, this is because the first thing you use are your body's glycogen stores, and these are bound up with a lot of…
  • NHS advice is not more than 6 gms salt daily for adults, but so many commercial products have salt added that it's hard. Best advice is to look at nutrition labels on food and choose home-cooked over ready meals where possible. The sodium/potassium balance is also important, that's why you shouldn't eat too many bananas,…
  • I don't jog, I walk. As you say, there is mixed advice, the main problem seems to be poor technique. If you want to jog I would have a look for a site that shows you the proper dynamics of movement. Also, of course, correct footwear is fundamental. If you're concerned about cartilage wear you could try taking a glucosamine…
  • You can spread your calories over a week and save some for a treat day. As long as you don't go over your week's total you'll be OK. Even if you slip a little, it takes 3500 calories over your daily nutritional needs to gain 1lb. The only thing is, if you eat food that's more fatty, salty, or sugary than usual you may…
  • You could take a home-made salad (if you want dressing take in separate container so it doesn't make the salad soggy) with cooked meats, fish or egg. Pasta and rice salads are good too. Cooked, cooled chicken drumstix or wings - you can spice them up with seasoning. Hard-boiled eggs, Try making a quiche using a pizza base…
  • Most days I eat breakfast, tho' sometimes it's something light like fruit or yogurt. I only skip it if I had a heavy meal the night before and still feel full.
  • Have you heard the saying ' When you're eighteen, you worry about what everybody's thinking about you. When you're forty you realise that it doesn't really matter what they think about you. When you're sixty, it dawns on you that most of them weren't thinking about you at all!'. So don't let yourself be defined by what you…
  • East End of London, England!
  • I did WW for years, did OK but wasn't losing that much.Checked on here and found out just how many calories I'd been consuming in 'free' fruit! Not saying it doesn't work, just that I wasn't good at it. Also they push their products so much, and if you want to work out PPoints in stuff you need to buy their books,…
  • A Jakemans original menthol chest and throat sweet, as I had a tickly cough.
  • Lamb chops are pretty expensive, I usually buy when they're on offer and freeze. I'm lucky to live near a street market where most fruit and veg are £1 a bowl.
  • I had an MRI on my knee (fortunately it's free on NHS in Britain) and it showed worn cartilage due to arthritis. There is something called miniscus cartilage which can be damaged and cause pain. Cartilage takes a long time to heal.Trouble is if you've torn or damaged a cartilage or ligament it can destabilise your knee.…
  • I would say (quoting a friend) 'moderation in all things, including moderation'!

  • Well done on a great start! Walking is definitely the way to go, apart from anything else it's free, you don't need any equipment except a good pair of walking shoes, and nobody need know you're exercising, everybody walks. Good luck with your weight loss journey.

  • Like the hare and the tortoise, 'slow and steady wins the race'. ie if you lose weight slowly and steadily it stays off. Are you sure you're having enough calories, tho'? If you go too low it can actually slow down weight loss.
  • If you continue having sleep probs, a cup of camomile tea before bed and a little lavender oil on pillow (but keep away from eyes) are helpful - and calorie-free! You might also find you wake in night to go to bathroom, as you lose a lot of water on the first week or so of a weight loss programme. This is because the first…
  • Well done, how great that your effort has been recognised!

  • I don't know if you are in US or UK, but here in UK you can buy half fat butter. I'm sure it must be available in US too if you look for it.
  • I have a persistent back pain problem which flares up from time to time. I find the following helpful: Ibuprofen gel Self-adhesive heat treatment patches-the good thing with these is you can wear them out and about. I also have a TENS machine which is very good - works by blocking the pain signals. Again, there are…
  • London Borough of Waltham Forest, East London.
  • My late husband was 25 years older than me, and we were happily married for 38 years!
  • I love to make a ratatouille, healthy and goes with so many things. Also swede and carrot mash is delicious and a good substitute for mashed potato if you want to cut down.
  • I like: 'builders' tea' (strong with a dash of milk), Earl Grey with lemon, green jasmine tea, redbush (rooibos) or fruit teas when I don't want caffeine, camomile for relaxing and peppermint if I have indigestion.
  • porridge for breakfast is good, and the oat fibre helps lower cholesterol too.
  • Fritata - cook and slice a few potatoes, put with sliced onion and tomatoes in frying pan with spray oil or 1 tbsp max olive oil, cook till veggies are soft then pour in beaten eggs. Cook till eggs are set, if necessary brown top under grill. Serve with your green beans.
  • If your breakfast isn't keeping you full, maybe you should have some protein. A poached or boiled egg with crispbreads or a slice of wholemeal toast isn't too high and would keep you fuller longer.
