  • Regarding fluid, if you lose a lot of weight fast when you start a diet, it's because the first thing you burn is the glycogen stored in your liver, which is bound up with a LOT of water, and people then sometimes get upset because after that initial big loss things seem to slow down.Plus if you increase exercise it makes…

  • If you're adding your own foods to the diary it will ask you to enter serving size and servings per container eg a can of soup is a 'container' and might hold 2 servings.
  • entree usually means a starter. It comes from the French verb 'entrer' which means 'to enter'.
  • Lower back pain is very common and has many causes, from bad posture to muscle strain. Have you tried using an ibuprofen gel? I have a TENS machine which is very good too.
  • Hi,Kaz, I'm opposite you in Walthamstow, East London. Afraid I can't help you exercise wise as I'm an elderly female, but regarding chips, have you tried butternut squash chips? They're really tasty.
  • If you need snacks, have healthy ones. Almonds are good, tho' not a lot as still high in fat. Celery sticks or apple slices spread with a little peanut butter or veggie sticks with a low-cal dip fill you up. I'm sure you can find some veggies in a restaurant!

  • I sympathise, it's so easy to let it creep back on! If it was easy we wouldn't be here. But the only person who can do it is you, even with the help of sites like this or slimming groups you have to take responsibility. My advice is plan, plan, plan! Work out your meals and only buy what you need for those. If you have kids…
  • Don't go too low, it's counterproductive. Your body will go into 'starvation mode'. On so few calories, don't waste any on rubbish foods.Plenty of lean protein will keep you feeling full.
  • Hi, I'm from London, a real Eastender!
  • Good for you, you can do this!
  • If your heart is in danger due to your malnutrition, it means you've been burning muscle to excess, as your heart is a muscle. So don't think you'll be gaining lots of fat, your body will need to rebuild your muscle mass. Just do as you're told to regain your health. I hope everything works out for you.
  • Waltham Forest, East London. To help place us as a London Borough, we have our head in Epping Forest and our feet in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
  • I like it occasionally but it's too sickly to eat regularly. I can keep a jar in the cupboard for weeks.
  • I think it affects everyone differently. I had my gallbladder removed after a bout of gallstone pancreatitis. I can tolerate small amounts of most fatty foods but can't touch butter. I have no problems with alcohol, but then I rarely drink except a glass or two of wine on special occasions or an occasional cider when it's…
  • Remember the HALT sign - if you're Hungry, Angry,Lonely or Tired, you'll make bad choices, including food choices !
  • Most food labels say 'carbohydrates X amount of which sugars Y amount', so I guess MFP works on the same principle.
  • They say Japanese people are healthy because they eat a lot of soy!
  • Tracking and planning work best for me, if you don't write down everything you eat it's easy to get 'eating amnesia'. Plan your meals for the week, it doesn't have to be set in stone if you fancy something different than you planned one day or an unexpected social occasion comes up, but it does give you a good framework to…
  • IBS is strange, some people find increasing fibre helps and others that it makes it worse, so definitely talk to doctor/dietician.
  • If you overeat you will gain. However, if you overeat sugary, salty, or fatty foods they will also retain fluid, so some of the gain will be fluid. But whatever form the weight takes, it's all extra strain on your heart and body!
  • Wow, well done! Keep up the good work!
  • The dehydrating effect of tea or coffee is minimal compared to the hydrating effects of the water it's made with. Doctors agree that all fluids count as part of your 8 'glasses' a day, not just water. However, alcohol IS dehydrating.
  • I like lime with soda water, tho' you need to watch it if you're cutting sodium. ou can get sugarfree tonic water.
  • Fruit juice is as high in sugar as a soda, you're better to eat whole fruits and get the fibre too.
  • 'All calories are NOT created equal', according to Dr Robert Lustig. I recommend his book 'Fat Chance', which has a lot to say about the metabolice effects of sugars.
  • I do tend to buy reduced fat cheeses and spreads, but that's more to do with having had my gall-bladder removed and therefore not able to tolerate higher levels of fat. I have bought diet products over the years but stopped because they are either lower calorie simply because they are smaller portions, or because natural…
  • One of the best ways to check portion sizes is by visual cues. A portion of meat should be the size of a pack of playing cards, and a portion of cheese like a matchbox.A cereal bowl of salad or 2-3 tbsp veg is a serving. Recommendations in Britain are that you eat 5-7 servings fruit and veg a day, wholegrain bread,…
  • Could you make some healthy soup and take it in a flask to have for 'fourses'? With a couple of thin crispbreads it should keep you going. Or some fruit, eg banana.
  • Life is what happens when you had something else planned - John Lennon It's not what you know, it's what you do with what you know - Jim Stephens
  • It must be difficult for you, do you have professional help? I have no experience of anorexia so can't really advise you. Just wanted to wish you luck in your struggles.
