Time and practice I hadn't jumped rope in years and like you kept tripping up every few jumps I just kept at it though and have gotten my groove back!! It's a great way to burn calories quick according to my hrm I burn anywhere from 100-150 cals in less than 10 mins!

I have the polar ft40 I really like it it keeps track of calories, time, and heart rate, does everything I need it to do (don't need a gps as I mostly use machines...elliptical, bike, total gym and it's reasonably priced

My bike/elliptical has the hrm on it too, after I got my polar ft40 I found the calories on it were way under for me, but at the same time the calories on mfp were quite a bit higher , I like knowing for sure so I say get a hrm.

8lbs down lots more to go, I'd also like to be in the 130 range but for now I'm setting myself at 150 would love to have more motivation and accountability with others being able to check up on me!! And any tips/recipes would be awesome
