Some of the old British measurements are wonderful: http://home.clara.net/brianp/quickref.html

Oh there's a great video which explains it really well, which hopefully someone will post. Yes, some goes down the loo in both forms, but a lot gets excreted in breath, which surprised me.

My husband's great-grandfather was an explorer, and one of the first Europeans to describe durians: "When brought into a house the smell is often so offensive that some persons can never bear to taste it. This was my own case when I first tried it in Malacca, but in Borneo I found a ripe fruit on the ground, and, eating it…

Yes, onion bhajis! So delicious, but with coriander/cilantro, not parsley :)

I have made that mistake twice! Now trying to avoid doing it for a third time :)

It's great for making fruit fly traps! Put a little in a jar with cling wrap across the top, poke some holes in it and put it by your fruit bowl. The flies are attracted to the vinegar, go in through the holes and can't get out again.

For me, realising that there is no wagon made a huge difference. Once I stopped thinking that one bad day meant everything was lost and I had to wait until next Monday morning to start again, things became a lot more manageable. Also, being less strict and knowing that it's ok to take a long time to lose the weight.…

Add me to the 'few pounds up' club. I get smart and think I have a handle on things, and then realise I really don't.

No, you would need to add the calories for the milk, which would depend on which kind you use (skimmed, 2% etc).

I like this a lot: http://www.food.com/recipe/french-white-bean-and-cabbage-soup-171910

It's a database created by users, so you can create recipes and add them to the database so that others can find them later.

I made a folder on my PC called 'Fat Pics'. A little browse through that is enough to re-motivate me. You can do it!

Agree. It'll be fine.

Yeah, my thought too. DRAFTERS UNITE! :) I also have 3 kids. I do cook a bit less now they are all older, but I make the same things I always did. We have fewer rich, creamy pastas these days, but I do still make them sometimes. I just eat a lot less. I also used to bake a lot, so we always had a cake or cookies on the…

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Of course you will have post-surgery swelling, so don't stress about that 10lbs.

Perhaps she was like the constipated mathematician who worked it out with a pencil. Seriously, I hope there was a comfortable resolution.

I agree with this. A ready-meal was a bit of a treat when we were still in the UK, especially when it was something like a Tesco Finest one, or something scrummy from Waitrose. When we moved to Canada, eating ready meals felt like punishment for being too lazy to cook for myself. They haven't improved much in the 13 years…

I was rinsing out an empty jar for recycling yesterday, and was really surprised at how that stuff DID NOT want to melt. I find that very unappealing. I loved Nutella as a kid, but these days I don't particularly like it. My son makes up for that though.

I'm British and live in Canada! I really miss Tesco Direct or whatever it's called these days. When I had 3 little kids at home it was a godsend.

Yikes! That's why pre-logging is a good idea. I wanted a vanilla milkshake from McD's the other day (don't judge). I thought I'd just have a small, but I checked first. 500+ cals! Absolutely was not worth it to me, so I skipped it and had Coke Zero instead. How was the sandwich?

I actually do honestly enjoy eating most veggies. I'd venture to say there are many people like me :) OP - good for you. I admire your attitude. The reason people are being 'nice' about this is because you're approaching your issue like an adult rather than a 3 year-old who wants cookies instead of broccoli. Lots of good…

Are you following the advice given in your many other posts about weighing and logging your intake in order to create a calorie deficit?

Agree with magnesium supplements. I had a condition for a while where it was important to keep everything very soft. Magnesium did the job nicely and I still use it sometimes to ease things along a bit if needed. :)

Ooh, ALLL the tapas!

To me, rhubarb is only for desserts :)

Who else uses your computer? ;)

But the euphemisms are fun. We also like to go the other way - I frequently ask my daughter how her 'troublesome menses' are.

I love this! Good for you. I'm also guilty of thoughtlessly scoffing in the car. Yesterday I had McDonald's for lunch (within cals - all good) but literally ate it in the car next to a garbage bin so I could easily dispose of the leftover fries I knew I wouldn't be eating. I don't think that's mindful or particularly…

I started at 185, now at 140 and hoping to lose another 5lbs. Start, be patient and stick with it, and you will get there too. Good luck!

I would have thought any recipe that you could also cook with lamb would work. Shepherd's pie etc. Maybe look at Greek/Lebanese/Turkish recipes for ideas. Moussaka, kofta etc?
