  • I go to the doctor's once a month to have my blood pressure checked. I get weighed then. I do weigh my food religious though. ;)
  • My go to breakfast is 1/2 cup of quick cook rolled oats, 2/3 cup of skim milk, one tablespoon of Natural Skippy peanut butter with honey, a chopped up banana and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon (for anti-inflammation) Mix it all together and nuke it for a couple of minutes. Tastes great, incredibly filling and less than 400 calories.
  • I get to find out what happens in the next episode of Supernatural. I only let myself watch it when I am biking. ;)
  • I have a reputation for being snarky. I will attempt not to be, since you are clearly offended and not wanting to listen to people you feel are insulting you. Dr. Oz is indeed a heart surgeon. Which means that is what he knows. Hearts. This is not the same thing as a doctor who specializes in weight loss. He is claiming…
  • Absolutely not. 2500mg is the max any healthy adult should get. Also long as you're getting 500mgs a day, you're fine. *has high blood pressure, did all the research*
  • I like Truvia. Sweet n' Low was making my fibro flares worse I found. There's also honey and maple syrup to substitute in baking.
  • I did not read the last seven pages (I get reminded on a daily basis on this forum how much I hate people in general, especially other women). I did read the OP's first post. I am also a fat girl who was fine being fat. "Big, Blond, and Beautiful' and 'Fat Bottom Girls' were my theme song. I had more self-confidence in my…
  • *applauds* I utterly agree with you. The lack of perspective showing in these forums is appalling. Accusations of 'sabotage', constant complaints about not losing weight fast enough, whining about everything under the sun about weight loss. I posted a similar thing a few days ago and got nothing but supportive comments. I…
  • Being an overweight woman with hypertension who used to do little about it, this one speaks the most to me. How I would have still been eating 20 years from now if I hadn't woken up. She thinks her 'low fat' and 'lean' food is healthy and that means she can have junky snacks. I never used sugar in my coffee ever, always…
  • My son is chronically underweight and has been his entire life. He had a feeding tube installed at 2 for supplimental feeds. Anyway, here are some of the suggestions I was given that might help you. 1. Don't eat anything plain. Dip your veggies in ranch or any other kind of dressing you like. Dip fruit in peanut butter or…
  • It is actually not that hard to stay under 1500mg a day. I do it most of the time. I have bad high blood pressure I am taking two medications for. It's getting better, but like losing weight, that's a slow process too. Read the nutrition labels. Especially on the foods the poster above me suggested. Also watch out for 'low…

  • Artificial sweetners and refined sugar. Not allergic, I have a plethora of food and chemical allergies. It's not the same thing. Most artificial sweetners make me feel lousy and makes my fibro flare. Even before I started cutting it out, too much high fructose corn syrup or straight up sugar would make me sick. Now? No…
  • I lost six pounds the first week. My doctor was so thrilled she gave me a hug. When I went back two months later and was down 24 pounds, she practically told the whole clinic she was so happy. It's great motivation. :)
  • This. Some people don't even have 2000 calories for their net. I have read some truly horrifying advice in this thread. My doctor told me under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should a woman eat less than 1200 calories net a day. Period. You can do major damage to your body eating too little calories. Losing a pound a week is fine.…
  • I eat apples and bananas every day. They're available year round, yummy and cheap. When they're in season and on sale I'll buy berries. I am allergic to citrus, so I have to be really careful with what fruits I eat.

  • If a pancake will blow your macros, then you need to use less syrup or butter. Or make healthier pancakes. I can sympathize with you to an extent. My son is a picky eater who desperately needs to gain weight (if I could give him some of what I need to lose, the world would be a great place. Unfortunately, doesn't work that…
  • Easiest snack to make ever. Hard boil eggs, cut in half, scoop out yolks, mix with greek yogurt/sour cream/mayo (whatever floats your macros), a little mustard, maybe some relish if that's your liking, season and fill back in the carved out eggs. Sprinkle on a little paprika and voila. Just remember to refrigerate any…
  • Myth leftover from the 'all fat is bad' 90s. Eggs are full of good fats.
  • I love eggs! I have deviled eggs (made with greek yogurt, how did I not hear of this awesome sooner?) tempting me in the fridge right now!
  • On a low sodium, low GI (glycemic index, basically anti-inflammatory) diet. Lots of fruit and veggies, unsalted butter, canned soup marked heart healthy (but only eat one serving), white cheeses (swiss and provalone have a lot less sodium than cheddar or American), chicken, lean beef, and eggs are all good. I love greek…
  • This. I love them, but 310mg of soldium per serving is way too much for a snack. Ouch.
  • This. I went from two pots of coffee a day to caffeine free in three weeks. I didn't have any headaches or withdrawal system. I started by only making one pot of coffee a day for a week. The second week, I cut in half decaf for that pot of coffee. Then week three, I cut it down to two cups of half decaf coffee and half…
  • Because I am a very obese person (but getting smaller!) I have an pretty high goal. So no, I usually do not eat back my exercise calories. I am careful to eat at least my BMR, but I am regularly short my goal 300-500 calories. If you don't need to lose 100+ pounds like me, this is not recommended as far as I can tell. I'd…
  • I have had FMS for 12 years. I also have high blood pressure and chronic migraines, I am waiting for an X-Ray to see if I get to add arthritis to my list. Medication hasn't worked for me, I have a special needs child that I have to be completely aware and functional to care for. The anti-inflammatory diet is helping some,…
  • My mother has the lap band and had little success. She lost weight rapidly in the beginning, but then stalled. She followed the plan (and still does) but the diet alone would turn me off. As someone above said, it is a lifelong change you are making and you need to do as much research as possible if you are considering it.…
  • High Fructose Corn Syrup Most sugar (still use Stevia and eat sweets occasionally) Sodium (as much as possible) Fast food (too hard to find food there that won't set off one of my medical conditions) Pizza (cut WAY back, for the same reason as above) 'White' grains White potatoes
  • I do not want to rain on your parade. Because if you can do it, YOU GO GIRL!. But just make sure you check with your doctor and listen to your body. Good luck all the same.
  • This. I couldn't afford a car if I could drive. You really have no idea. I have never been on vacation. Ever. I get $200 a month to feed two people on different special diets. I take the bus everywhere. The only reason I have internet access is because I got a good deal on it and my son needs access for school. There are…
  • Most families below the poverty have less than $300 to spend on food A MONTH. I have heard of people screwing over the system and getting way more than that, but they are the minority. The rest of us scrabble from month to month, when food prices go up, our amounts don't. You're not being realistic. You spend less than you…
  • Poverty = depression. You're absolutely right. But often, food is the only comfort you can afford. Which is kind of sad itself, if you think about it.
