No exercise? Not even walking? Walking is the only exercise I do, and it helped me to lose and keep off over 50 pounds for six years.

I find that if I don't have the food in the house, I'm not willing to go out (to the store, a restaurant, whatever) to get it. That being said, when i saw a dietician when I first began this weight loss journey, she encouraged me to have a light snack -- yogurt, fruit, some nuts, etc. -- in the evening. So I do.....I just…

Yes, you can lose weight with hypothyroidism.....don't use it as an excuse. Be sure to visit with your doctor and make sure you are taking the correct dosage of medication. I've been taking generic synthroid for close to 10 years. When I made my mind up seven years ago to lose weight and get healthy -- well, I guess my…

THIS, totally this! You and only you are responsible for what passes your lips! It's easier to blame someone else that to take responsibility for yourself. Kaye

Weight loss is not linear. If you have picked up shifts and become more active, you are bound to lose more. Next week, you may gain two pounds. Overall, you are losing about a pound a week, which is healthy and sustainable! Kaye

I bought a Cuisinart blender, that came with four cups with lids to drink from. It works VERY well, and if I remember correctly, it cost about $50 at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I really LOVE it! Kaye

Me..... An elevated blood sugar (along with cholesterol issues after I had quit taking Lipitor cold turkey due to leg cramps) is what prompted my doctor to send me to a dietician. She told me basically these things: 1. Write down everything you eat. 2. Keep your "carbs" to less than 15 a day. In her world, a "carb" is 15…

72 pounds in 15 months, have kept 57 of it off completely. Was probably too thin at that point, but would now like to lose about 7. Kaye

^^This, totally this!!!!! I lost 70+ pounds (and have kept MOST of it off) and the only exercise I did was walking......on a treadmill, on streets, on country roads. Kaye

I cannot get this link to work. Could someone copy/paste the recipe to this thread so I can get it? Thanks so much! Kaye

Then "just be." Focus on maintaining, continuing to make healthy food choices, and continue with being active. Tone if you choose, but you look awesome. "Just be....." Kaye

I'm just guessing here, but if you "have to drink tooonnnnnsss of water" when you take a pill like this, that is why you aren't eating as much. The water is filling you up. Furthermore, you are already at a healthy weight. If you don't like how your body looks, concentrate on lifting weights and toning/sculpting…

I lost 70+ pounds, and the only "working out" I did was walking. Walking IS working out. Kaye

A used treadmill.....best $200 I've EVER spent. In addition, before I was a member of MFP (and when I lost my weight), I bought small notebooks to write down what I was eating, and how many "carbs" each contained, as well as logging how far I walked. Best $1.00 investment ever. Now I log my food and activity here on MFP. I…

I don't log my walking around at work....which amounts to a couple of miles according to my FitBit, but I do count intentional walking that occurs. (I walk during my lunch hour most days, and before school as often as I can). Kaye

I've had both the One and the Zip, and the One is MUCH better, in my opinion. Definitely worth the extra money. Kaye

I know how you feel about the surprising reactions ahead...it will be great fun. I met with a friend yesterday that I hadn't seen in over a year and she was floored with my 60+ lb. loss. And some of my family members haven't seen me since my loss either, so I'm looking forward to that visit in a little bit. Keep up the…

I think this is a question for your medical doctor. Not trying to be rude or blunt, but the vast majority of us are not medical doctors, nor have we had experience with anything like this. Kaye

When I first lost weight, my brother told a cousin that he honestly didn't even recognize me. I hadn't seen much of him during the time I was losing, so it was a big change. Brothers......can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em! The cousin still does a double take. He lives in Florida, so I only see him about…

My favorite ways to eat overnight oatmeal? 1/2 cup old fashioned oats 1 carton vanilla yogurt (Greek for protein if possible) handful of frozen blueberries splash of Torani sugar-free vanilla syrup OR splash of sugar-free vanilla syrup and dash of cinnamon Kaye

My favorite rewards are new clothes and mani/pedis. Of course, DURING my weight loss, the "new" clothes were usually from Goodwill, as I knew I didn't want to buy very many that would only be worn termporarily. I still love the mani/pedis. SO relaxing. Kaye

Hi, I was on cholesterol medicine (Lipitor) for several years before I lost weight. I finally just quit it cold turkey, as it was making my leg muscles ache so much. My doctor didn't think the Lipitor was the cause, but once I quit taking it, I felt better within a week. It was then, when combined with elevated blood…

If you were drinking pop with caffeine in it, and have stopped, that could be the source of your headaches......and if you are anything like me, headaches lead to other physical symptoms, such as an upset stomach. Your body may still be adjusting.....or it could be the weather......or it could be something more serious.…

A Fitbit is a fancy pedometer. I had the $100 one and LOVED it.....lost it, and bought the $60 one. It tracks my steps and distance pretty accurately, but the more expensive one could also be used for tracking sleep. It won't calculate your BMR, but it does give an estimation of calories burned. I'd spend the money on the…

I donated my "fat" clothes to Goodwill, and while I was losing, I often bought clothes there. Once I got to where I wanted to be, I went and gradually bought new ones. I couldn't afford a whole new wardrobe at once, and now I am at the point that I need to replace those because, after five years, they are wearing out. What…

Don't let hypothyroidism be your excuse. I have taken generic Synthroid for over 10 years, and I lost ALL of the weight I lost several years after the diagnosis. It took me writing EVERYTHING I eat down, keeping track of my carbs, and getting off my butt and moving to lose the weight. I walk.....and walk.....and walk. The…

I have been a full-time ONLY parent since my husband died 12.5 years ago, and I lost all of the weight I lost after his illness and death. Yes, it is hard, but if you are not working out "because you have your child five days a week," you are looking for an excuse. Hate to be blunt, but this hit a nerve with me. Walking is…

I changed scales partway through my weight loss, and my new one (which in reality is probably more accurate) showed that I weighed about 5 pounds more. Am I concerned about that, a couple of years down the road? NOPE! I just figure that my starting weight was actually 5 pounds more as well! Just chose ONE scale and…
