  • I used to drink it black, all day long, and like Slashni, I have given myself a time to quit -- for me it is 11 AM. I felt I was getting too jittery when I kept drinking it all day. I don't really give up caffeine, though, as a lot of times I switch to iced tea, especially in the summer.
  • You are spot on at a healthy BMI, and will be so anytime you are between 135 and 140. My advice is to not stress so much about a pound or two, but to make sure you remain active and enjoy your life. If there are parts of your body you aren't content with, try lifting weights to help tone. You are doing a wonderful job of…
  • I love overnight oats in the spring/summer. I vanilla Greek yogurt I/2 cup rolled oats (not cooked) a splash of sugar-free vanilla syrup 1/4 cup frozen blueberries Put in a jar and leave in your refrigerator overnight. Eat cold the next morning.

  • When I was consistently walking between 3 and 6 miles daily was when I was losing weight. Less than that (and that is what is happening now), and I gain. I RARELY took a day off from walking, and need to get it back into this daily routine soon. Unfortunately, it may be July before that can really happen as I am…
  • Years ago, after I had first lost weight, an "old" friend told me his dad didn't know me when I said hi to them at an auction. Dave was a big guy, and he asked me how I did it. I said, watching what I ate, writing it down, and "I walked my *kitten* off." He turned me around and whispered in my ear, "Literally." Best memory…
  • Too TRUE!!!!! One of the many reasons I am taking early retirement this year.
  • Try eating more protein with your evening meal. It may help you feel full longer. You might also build in an evening snack into your calories for the day.
  • If you think it is hard in the 30s, wait until the 50s! LOL I do think it is harder to lose and maintain weight loss the older we get.....unless we truly modify the amount we eat. I lost weight much more easily in my 40s than now trying to "re-lose" it in my 50s.
  • I usually make mine by starting with a container of vanilla Greek yogurt, and throwing in frozen fruit -- bananas, strawberries, blueberries, etc. I will sometimes add a splash of milk or kook-aid if it gets too thick from the frozen fruit.
  • Choose better foods to snack on: Nuts (I prefer almonds), dill pickles, carrots, celery, apple, etc. I agree with SueinAz, don't keep those high calorie, salty snacks in your house. I am the same way....if it is there, I eat it, so I try to keep most foods like that out of my house (I live alone, and tend to buy those…
  • 150 and according to your profile you want to lose 70 pounds? How tall are you? I'm guessing you would be seriously underweight at 80 pounds. As the above posters have said.....see your doctor. Are you on your parents health insurance? You should be able to see a counselor based on the insurance payments. Ask your family…
  • I've been on thyroid medicine for close to 20 years. Lost weight after I was taking it, and don't really think it had any impact. For me it was making healthier choices and moving more....which I've become lax on, which has lead to ganging weight, which means I now need to start paying attention again.
  • I don't know if I had an increased appetite while I took Lipitor, because this was before my weight loss (and unfortunately somewhat of a gain) journey. I quit taking it cold turkey because of the leg cramps I had. I felt better within a week. Of course, my cholesterol went high. Once I had lost the weight, it was in…
  • This is totally a personal choice, no one "right" way works for everyone. I tend to weigh in daily when I am at home so I know what is going on.
  • At 6'7", I'm questioning weight loss from 195 pounds?
  • When I lost the weight, my cholesterol went down. I had been on medication for several years, but when I started having pain in my legs, I quit my cholesterol medicine cold turkey. Probably not the way to do it, but I felt better within a week. That being said, as I've added back some weight (which I am again trying to…
  • This exactly. Walking is basically the only form of exercise I have done….lost 70 pounds. Have gained some back by not paying attention to my diet…..and am working to lose it again. Try to get in at least 3 miles 5 times a week…….in the summer it is more. Kaye
  • I won't say this is totally unrealistic, but what I will say is that you are probably setting yourself up for failure, and it won't be the most healthy way to lose weight. This is a very aggressive weight loss goal. If you don't make it, will you give up? I lost 70 pounds by simply watching what I eat and walking. No…
  • Whenever I can fit it in…...
  • I think using a vanilla nonfat Greek yogurt would be similar, and taste MUCH better. The plain tastes like (and is often substituted for) sour cream. No wonder you can barely scarf it down. The calories, etc, are similar, so I think it would be a good switch. Kaye
  • According to your profile, you only want to lose 15 pounds. Trying to do it on ~800 a day appears to be terribly unhealthy. Are you working out? And by that, I don't mean going to a gym necessarily. Go for walks or bike rides. Find something you LOVE to do, as that will make it easier to keep doing it. Make sure you find a…
  • It is REALLY hard to fix and eat healthy meals at the table when you live alone. Believe me, I know. I've been a widow for almost 14 years, and eating alone since my daughter moved to college five years ago. I like the suggestions of eating grapes, etc. if you feel the need to "nosh" while you are watching TV….but you…
  • NO, I don't think so…..it made this easier for me. A piece of bread is roughly 1 carb, a banana is 2 carbs, etc. I know what it multiplies out to as far as grams go, but doing this made it easy for me to keep track of "carbs." As far as I am concerned, it wasn't quackery -- after all, it worked!

  • Hi, I lost all of the weight that I lost on Synthroid (the generic kind). I had been on the medication for several years before I attempted to lose weight. My doctor was concerned about my blood sugar, and sent me to a dietician. I thought she was a quack, but I used her ideas, and it was extremely helpful. This is what…

  • Personally, I wouldn't take any supplements until after you see your doctor. They could affect the results of his testing. Kaye
  • You are "pissed" about 4 oz? Seriously, that is one trip to the bathroom. You don't have a lot of weight to lose, so it will be slow going…….you are already at a "healthy" weight. You didn't gain the weight overnight, and if you are losing inches, be pleased with yourself. Kaye
  • I could have written this one……gave a friendship four months, but after that time, there was no "spark" so I ended it. I have been a widow for 13+ years. I think part of it was that he wasn't Randy, but also felt that the friendship wasn't going to go anywhere….and he really wanted it to. Kaye
  • Maintained for 2nd week in a row. Have been fighting a cold and have not had any motivation to eat healthy or to exercise. Feeling somewhat better, so I need to get back to it! Kaye
  • Thru 2/15: 29 miles total I've been fighting a cold, and haven't done a lot this week. Need to get back at it, and quit using the cold as an excuse. Kaye
  • I get so tired of people who don't consider walking exercise. I lost all of the weight that I did watching my diet, and walking……walking…….and more walking. I have slacked off lately, and I can tell. I am trying to get back on track. Have been sick for about a week (just a cold, nothing too major), but I am SO tired that I…
