I'm old school... I lurve my Fitbit One. :)

Over three years in maintenance/recomp here... My confessions... - I've had a lot of mild injuries from overdoing my chosen modes of exercise. Had to spend 6-8 weeks in physical therapy last year for a couple of them. - Walking, hiking, and kayaking have proven much more effective for reducing my BF% than lifting had been.…

Oops, never mind. Thread necro at its worst... Sorry...

What ninerbuff said, but here is a solid at-home body-weight workout for fitness. I'm posting the beginner link/ there's an advanced workout linked up from the page as well. http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/12/09/beginner-body-weight-workout-burn-fat-build-muscle/

A real 5-pound gain would have required a surplus of 17,500 calories... if you managed to eat that much extra in three weeks, much respect. :D You're probably seeing post-workout muscle swelling, what the bros call "swole." Strength training works by causing stress to your muscles; in response, they swell temporarily…

Chalk, careful attention to grip, and a recognition that having some calluses is a good thing. There are some good posts on stronglifts.com about using the right grip for a given lift - search there and you'll probably find them in no time. Basically, you're trying to avoid catching skin folds and/or letting the bar slip…

This just... wow, I don't get this at all. I mean, I guess if the "aesthetic physique" look you're going for is "so top-heavy, a stiff breeze is a real threat...."

I'm not great at moderation, so I try to make enough room for the whole thing - whatever that thing is. One "trick" I used successfully when I was losing, though... I would buy the thing and immediately throw away whatever portion of it I wasn't planning to consume. Order the fries, dump half of them in the trash before…

I bought a pedometer and started using it. First an Up band, then a Fitbit. I lost most of my weight just walking. After over two years of maintenance, I still use the Fitbit, although my main fitness activity has changed.

A pint of Talenti a day would help... you can "eat clean" by washing the spoon carefully and eating straight from the properly sealed container. Or a nice pizza, just don't drop it on the floor. Oh, ok... higher fat meats, like steak and pork... and milkshakes and other full-fat dairy products... and large quantities of…

I think this is a great choice, Ryudori. Rest, walk, and add very light stretching -- you probably don't want to stress injured tissue by stretching it vigorously. If your activity seems to aggravate it once you resume, I'd suggest a look at mobilitywod.com or the "Becoming a Supple Leopard" book for ideas to recover and…

This thread, again?

Started: Because one day I looked up from my recliner chair and realized that I was moving less and less, gaining more and more, feeling worse and worse - and I was scared beyond reason that I might not escape what I viewed as a sedentary death spiral. Now: Because I CAN. Because I do love food. But more, because I love to…

In my heavy bag class, they often make us alternate rounds on the bag with rounds of body-weight exercises. Doing push-ups and planks with boxing gloves on feels awful at first, but nothing has done more for my wrist strength. You could get a similar effect by doing them on your fists or using dumbbells as "handles."

My suggestion - mobilitywod.com I found ideas there that helped me eliminate the sciatica I was experiencing from my activities.

Wow... I have never before felt so old as I do today.

Has anyone else discovered new Talenti flavors in the stores recently? Mine had Salted Peanut Caramel and Hazelnut Chocolate Chip. The hazelnut one tasted so boozy, I actually threw it out

* Turning a treat into a habit. * Eating throughout the day to fuel an evening workout I end up having to skip. * Feeling justified in eating ALL THE THINGS when I'm on the "down" side of normal weight fluctuations.

I stuck them in boxes, especially the new ones that I really liked and wanted to have altered. I lived in tight jeans and Active Basic t-shirts for my first year and a half of maintenance - it's only in the past four months or so that I started overhauling my closet. And when I did that, most of the too-big stuff went…

Longhorn Steakhouse is just FULL of surprises. If I don't pre-log, I don't dare eat something I haven't had before. Winter Brie Salad: 990 calories. Yes, there's chicken on it and the 6 or so little Brie wedges are fried, but it's a SALAD. I mean, dang. Macaroni and Cheese side dish: 610 calories. I could make a box of the…

No worries, it was just a joke.

Hmmm. Not quite what I thought this topic was going to be. :out:

Congrats on your loss!! Remember how it took some figuring out and some plateaus to make it through that phase; maintenance is no different. A week's worth of data doesn't tell you much. I'd suggest taking it slow, making small adjustments and seeing what happens over time. And setting new fitness goals is awesome --…

I'm ok with the idea. After two years using MFP to log my food and activity, I can estimate pretty well, but I actually like logging. And there are some foods that would knock me totally off guard if I hadn't looked them up to enter them, like a1000-calorie salad or 900-calorie mac & cheese side dish.

Depends what I still need to hit my macro targets. 450 calories can be half my protein macro at Outback, half my fiber target in a bowl of baked beans or veggie soup, a crapload of vitamin C in a nice strawberry salad, a divinely undercooked chocolate cookie, or half a container of my favorite gelato.

It's not so fast that I can't catch it when properly motivated. :p

Second this. If you're putting in the same effort, you're burning the same amount. If I were using those machines, I would probably change it up like robschwenck suggests above. :| ... Well... in truth, that would last about 15 minutes, and then I'd mosey off to do something I like more.

Kill two birds with one stone... Take up early-morning tap dancing. It's great cardio.

Second the water. But also, are you eating a low-fat diet? Dietary fat definitely helps.

Don't wade in the pool.
