This is the best answer so far.

You have a point if your goal is good health beyond the numbers on the scale. I am guilty of neglecting the log them, especially when they are steamed, without butter, on the side. But also, I have plateaued in my weight loss goals, so maybe more attention to detail is a good idea. Eat 'em and track 'em.

BTW - your soon to be Ex sounds like an *kitten*. At this point, his judgement about how you will do in future relationships (which is none of his business) is irrelevant.

I agree.

Start with tracking what you are currently doing and currently eating for at least two weeks and you will have a lot more data to work with. Without this information it is hard to give you suggestions on what you might change.

Greek yogurt is great in a smoothie and has a lot of protein if you prefer a non-powder option

I have found that it helps to continue to faithfully log all the food I am eating even if I am not restricting my diet on vacation. I can eat it so long as I record it. Don't throw out all the habits that have brought you success just because you've decided to eat different foods over vacation.

I have had a lot of success too by not being super restrictive on what I eat so long as I am totally honest about it and truthfully logging it all in MFP. I believe the key is the daily food and exercise log because I don't automatically know what "moderation" means unless I am writing it down to get an objective view of…

You are not being selfish by doing what it takes for your own health. Your choices are not a judgement on what other people can or should eat. Your stepson does not need a cake, or he can learn to bake it himself.

For me it has all been about consistently and honestly tracking what I eat. I have logged my food intake consistently for the past 4 months. I don't forbid my self any foods, I just honestly track what I eat and the visibility to what I am eating seems to motivate me to keep the indulgences, like ice cream, moderate. It is…

I agree.

Me too. I just get too hungry otherwise.

I eat them back most of the time, and I have consistently lost weight. I just lose more slowly that I might otherwise but I believe this lifestyle is more sustainable for me. I like to eat, and the suggested calorie target is too low. With exercise I can raise the calorie target and to a level that is more reasonable, and…

Right on!

I like the c25k program because if just going out and running did the trick, I would already be running. The program is good to get into the habit of running.

You look like you are having a lot of fun!

This is a great resource. Thanks!

Wow, just added a cup and a half of spinach to lunch and reach 83% of the RDA. You are right about spinach.

Watermelon? I had no idea.

Iron supplements in particular are famous for diarrhea as a side effect. Really undesirable.

What did you do? You look super fit!

Wow, look at those ABS! Great work!

A new car! That's a good reward!

Hawaii sounds fantastic! I should plan a trip and buy enough bikinis to wear all week

Great ideas. I like the vegetarian suggestions. I eat red meat, but not very often. Thanks!

I've found that smoothies are a great way to satisfy my ice cream cravings, especially made with frozen strawberries. Not always low cal, but nutritious and Makes a great late afternoon snack.
