  • It sounds like such a blast! A friend is interested, so we're talking seriously about it. I'm glad it's not timed - I'm not ready for that yet! Because I have a bladder the size of pea (pardon the pun), I'm wondering if there are porta-potties along the way?
  • I'm currently on the injured list, but usually I do spinning 6-7 days a week, I walk at least one hour 3-5 times a week, and right before being take out of action, I was supposed to be starting C25K and 30DS. D'oh! As an aside, for those who don't do a lot of cardio - I haven't changed much in the way I've been eating…
  • Oh, that's good information, thanks! So what MFP is allowing for me for the day is probably a little lower than it should be, judging from what you guys have said. Thank you :)
  • I put my workout in my phone's schedule, so it pops up on the screen. If I snooze, it just comes back again, and then I feel guilty for snoozing in the first place! Maybe try some music in the morning. I'm not a morning music person myself, but if you're having trouble getting moving, that might help. The other thing that…
  • There's nothing like the thought of an impending wedding to make you realize everything you hate about yourself! LOL Sad but true. Funny you should mention Pinterest - I find some of their photos to be almost depressing, like everything is just so stupidly perfect.
  • First of all, let me say that everyone's stories have really moved me. Really! It's amazing how we've all come from different places, yet really, not so different. And here we are! For me, it wasn't just one thing, but rather a few things. 1. I turned 30. Things just aren't moving as they should any more. Weight doesn't…
  • I'm kind of in a similar boat, with some differences. I'm gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, red meat-free, caffeine-free. It is HARD to find food to eat, I know! The way I've dealt with it, both for my health and wallet, is to cook from scratch. There are very few packaged food items I'll buy. I make most meals myself,…
  • I would say it depends on what kind of cleaning you're doing. Hardcore cleaning, like scrubbing your kitchen on your hands and knees (as opposed to mopping) is different from the regular, everyday cleaning. While I agree you probably can wash some dishes and then eat some ho-hos, I'm not writing it off, either. Housework…
  • I've noticed the same thing. It's usually my friends who are trying to lose weight, which is kind of sad. Pinterest recipes seem to always have a lot of fat to them, or at least that's what everyone is posting. If I come across tasty, healthy recipes, I'll post them up in an attempt to share. When I see the fattening crap…
  • I used to be a stress eater - I guess I still "am" a stress eater, but I work very hard not to give in. What is it about eating that you find relaxing? Is it a particular flavour or texture that you reach for? For me, I discovered it was the physical chewing act that relieved the stress, less than the actual eating.…
  • I will admit that I wouldn't be terribly upset if I developed a thigh gap through living a better, more active lifestyle. I will also admit that, like pretty much all the women on BOTH SIDES of my family, I carry my weight in my thighs. I always have. I probably always will, though I guess never say never. Like other…
  • I understand your frustration, but be patient and be kind to yourself. You didn't put the weight on overnight, and it won't come off overnight either. Don't give up!
  • TMI, but if my digestion gets a little bit slow (or stopped altogether) I find the scale starts creeping up a bit.
  • POP Pilates (youtube it - free, yay!) has at least a couple of videos for thigh exercises. They will HURT haha but I've found them to be helpful in the past, before I got lazy.

  • If you're not allergic to nuts, try Almond Breeze chocolate milk. Awesome for the chococlate cravings, not as many calories. I second the other poster about B12. I get injections every couple of weeks, and I can definitely feel it when I'm overdo. Eggs are a great source of B12, as long as you eat the yolk.
  • Pop Pilates on youtube! Great workouts, FREE, and really upbeat music.
  • Personally, I stay away from artificial sweeteners, period. I'd rather have a little bit of honey, agave, brown sugar, than deal with artifical sweeteners. I find artificial sweeteners make me feel unwell - headaches, indigestion, bloating, etc. I don't think it "poisons" me, but it certainly doesn't make me feel good.…
  • I agree with the Pop Pilates suggestion. Her videos are killer (!) but they are free, you can access them whenever you like, and her energy is great. There are days when I can't complete them, but it's something to work up to. Walking is excellent free exercise, and again it helps you work up to your goal. You don't have…
  • I don't have much to add here, but I sympathize with you! My ex was very lean naturally, and if he needed to drop a few pounds here and there, it was so easy for him. It drove me crazy. (Joke's on him - his metabolism finally "grew up" a bit and last I saw he was looking a lot heavier - I know that shouldn't make me happy,…
  • Gluten is EVERYWHERE. You'll find malt extract in chocolate, wheat starch in soup, fillers in meat products...the list goes on and on. I would recommend the celiac forum (www.celiac.com/gluten-free) as there are a lot of great resources there.
  • If you do in fact have a gluten intolerance, picking croutons out of your salad will likely still get you sick. Do some reading about cross-contamination and protect yourself. Sharing utensils, cutting boards, all of it - be careful. Places that make sandwiches in front of you, like Subway, are dangerous because of…
  • No. My fiance is the love of my life for a million reasons, and I would not leave him because of something like this. While I wish he would eat a little better, and try to be a bit more active, I love him completely for who he is, inside and out. There have been many, many times he could have walked out on me - I have a…
  • Thanks everyone for the great responses! It's so nice to know I'm not the only one with this issue. Truthfully, I do know my hips have gone down a little - I noticed my "last-resort-snug-undies" weren't so snug today lol so I guess that's a good thing. My jeans are still making me feel fat though - jeans have GOT to be the…
  • Pistachios! You can have 25 of them for 100 calories (unsalted) and I find they're filling. Additionally, the little boost of protein is a nice benefit.

  • When people are uncomfortable, they say strange things. At least, that's been my experience - and I'm guilty of it, too. I say the most awkward things when I'm uncomfortable. Sometimes, it's also about the elephant in the room. If your friend perceives themself to be hefty and you to be healthy, maybe they prefer to draw…
  • *hug* *hug* *hug* I'm sorry you're feeling so down right now. Instead of going for the cake, make this your AHA moment and get inspired! Easier said than done, I know, but it's the truth. Feel free to friend/pm me anytime. :) Hang in there.
  • Hydration is definitely important here. Make sure you're not dehydrated. Additionally, *what* are you eating? The issue may not be whether or not you're eating enough, but if you're eating the right thing. Personally, after a good cal-burning workout, I like to have something with a good amount of protein, like eggs, nuts,…
  • My smaller jeans - yes, I kept them. The style isn't what I wear any more, but I want to be able to fit into them! They are a relic from my skinnier days. A bathingsuit, without feeling self-conscious. My wedding dress! I'd like to be able to party in the strapless awesomeness without feeling like everyone is looking at my…
  • Definitely make friends with your local bulk store. Spices are (usually) really, really cheap and they go a long way to make food taste delicious without adding a bunch of extra calories. You can also get things like flax seeds, hemp hearts (etc) for little cost. Nuts can be expensive, though I've found almonds and…
  • Thanks so much for the helpful response! I'm a little nervous, and I probably won't be getting it done for at least a week or so. I wish I could have it done right now, actually, because the pain is pretty bad. Even just walking is really, really painful.
