Yes, the heaviest you can lift safely. Put down those weenie weights! How do you know how much weight is enough - be able to do at least 6 reps, if you can't - the weight is too heavy. DON'T be able to do more than 12 reps - if you can, then the weight is too light. I LOVE and recommend the book, "The New Rules of Lifting…

Hey congrats on your progress! That's awesome. Don't worry too much about the weekly number - take measurements and notice how you are feeling (more energized, perhaps?) These are NSV's (non-scale victories) and are super important also! Who knows, maybe TOM is lurking? That always makes me retain a couple pounds of water…

Before you get a bunch of people telling you gained muscle (sorry, it doesn't happen that fast), let me share my two cents: It's not just staying under your calories - the QUALITY of those calories counts. You have to eat clean! Cut out sugar, processed food, unhealthy fats, and starchy carbs. Eat lots of green,…

I like tea without sugar also (I drink Harney and Sons - Cinnamon Spice flavor - SO GOOD!), but that's the only tea I drink. Since tea is a natural diuretic, you need to drink even MORE water when you drink tea. An additional 8 oz of water over your daily recommended uptake for each cup of tea you drink. I stay away from…

I just cancelled my pity party for the past month TODAY! For me, admitting that I was having one (I kept admitting it every week in my blog and tried to do better) was half the battle. I finally got fed up with myself and my fire just randomly came back. DON'T GIVE UP!!! YOU'LL GET OVER THIS SLUMP! One thing that helped me…

This is the one I bought a few months back (when I decided I was serious) and I LOVE IT!!!! http://www.amazon.com/EatSmart-Precision-Capacity-Recognition-Technology/dp/B004L6NTHU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1317583333&sr=8-4

When you say NO sugar - did you avoid fruits also? Or just fruit in moderation? Plain yogurt or fruit flavored yogurts? Just curious. Thanks! Edited to add: sorry, I see in your original post you ate fruit, so I guess I'd just like to know if you limited it at all?

Congrats! You can totally use MFP to help you with your pregnancy. I got pregnant on MFP too after losing weight (but sadly miscarried at 9.5 weeks). BUT, I took my food diary to my OB and she loved that I was eating healthy. She told me I didn't have to increase my cals until 2nd trimester and then I would need about 300…

Thanks for the motivation and CONGRATS! You've obviously been very dedicated and worked hard for a long time. Enjoy your moment! You deserve it!!!!

I used it until my daughter was 18 months. He he. It's pretty common. Add me if you'd like!

Not sure how to advise you to gain, but I would think some nutritious, calorie dense shakes may help as they can give you alot of calories without taking up too much volume in the stomach. Also some whole wheat pastas and other healthy carbohydrates can pack alot of calories in small volumes. Brown rice that sort of thing.…

No, but I try to eat healthy and exercise to be healthy, so it's not THAT different. You can add me if you like!

When I first bought an elliptical I had to make sure it did TWO things: 1) Not become a dust magnet 2) Not become a coat hanger So my first ever elliptical was purchased on Amazon.com for about $100 from a company called Confidence USA. Yes for $100 it was a POS. BUT, it met my two criteria and broke after 7 months of near…

I read the title of the post and was like - EGADS!!!! Artificial Sweeteners! So, now I feel obliged to share with you all, why I had that reaction. Here's some reading, I hope you will find enlightening!…

My biggest success tip is PERSISTENCE Aside from that, this website helped me tremendously: http://www.extremely-fit.com/fitness-tips/2011/01/8week-transition-diet/ As well as a book called The New Rules of Lifting for Women by Lou Schuler I also thoroughly enjoy reading a magazine called ONFitness - I pick my copy up…

that is so inspirational! And I love your photo! Kudos to you!

Ha ha! I'm sure it could happen. I've only fallen in love with MFP. Unfortunately (or fortunately - depending on how you look at it) I delete flirty people. I even put a disclaimer on my profile - but of course, I'm already HAPPILY married, so why wouldn't I? But for those of you single looking for a good time - best of…

Saving in my favorites - thanks!

I find the easiest way to add calories is to drink them! I  protein shakes - they are quick, easy, satisfying, good for you and don't take up alot of volume in the stomach for those times you don't feel too hungry -but yet they will take the hunger pangs away if you are starving! My favorite is: 1 scoop of protein…

Awww... sounds like an emotional time for you. And for the patient. My prayers for both of you. Sounds like you have the right attitude for success though. Keep your head up and put one foot in front of the other with a smile on your face - it can only get better from here. Just keep at it!

I think it takes them to the MFP homepage where they can opt to sign-in/create an account.

9 lbs the first two weeks sound reasonable to me. I lost 6 lbs my first week on MFP, but it was probably mostly water and then lost 3 lbs the next week and then my weight loss became the normal 0.5 - 2 lbs week after that consistently. Anyway, perhaps it's your blood sugar, or maybe you are over doing it on the exercise.…

Some days I eat 3 larger meals, somedays I eat 4-6 smaller meals and/or snacks. It just depends on the day and how I feel. In general though, I prefer or try to eat 4-6 smaller meals rather than 3 larger ones, but sometimes it just doesn't work out!

Honestly, you can't change you until YOU make the decision to do so. There is ALWAYS going to be temptation around you. You've got to educate yourself on what's good for you and what will help you reach your goals. So, start by setting some goals for yourself, maybe small ones. Maybe, don't drink soda at first and drink…

I'm 5'5.5" (close enough). I started out 1200 back in January, and then changed to 1500 calories (maybe in March?) which helped me reach my goal of 125 lbs. I've now switched to maintenance at 1800 cals a day and am maintaining at 1800. It did take a while to lose @ 1500, BUT I MADE IT!!!! AND I'm keepin' it off now! Slow…

20% is an excellent goal! I also have a BF% scale, but they can be a bit quirky. But, just use it as a guide as you're looking for a downward trend. I'm not sure what increments yours measures in. My measures BF in 0.1% increments. Just be patient, it will go down eventually. YES, do strength training. I HIGHLY HIGHLY…
