I found 3 days worked for me. The author says if you do only 2 days a week, you may not get the results you hope for, and more than 4 days a week will over train your muscles and make you prone to injury. It's a GREAT BOOK! Buy it! You won't regret it and you can still run on your "off" days, to train for your marathon. :)

My goal in general is to make each day as clean as possible - though I'm far from perfect. But yes, it gave me the abs I always wanted. And as others said - it is very sustainable "diet" - one that you can do for life. And it's good for you! No gimmicks - just healthy, nutrient packed food!

I am 5'5.5" I went from a size 12/14 to a size 2/4. Clean eating, heavy weight lifting, and cardio. Lots of water - no soda. Good luck ladies! It can be done! :flowerforyou: And CONSISTENCY.

This is my shelter mutt. She can easily run 3 miles without getting the teensiest bit tired! I envy her stamina!

In general, it is not a good idea to try and "trick the system" you want to establish life long healthy habits. Ideally, you want to NET at least 1200 calories a day, so if you exercise, and burn 300 calories - then you get to eat 1500 calories a day. Eating only 800-1000 (+your exercise calories) is NOT going to be…

I've always been told that 1 cup cooked pasta = 1 serving of uncooked pasta

I haven't read all the responses but my gut reaction is to tell you to step on the scale, record it, move on. Make the rest of today the healthiest you can and make this your attitude each day when you get out of bed. "I'm going to make today the healthiest I can!" Then do it! You'll get there eventually!

It takes a looong time to gain muscle - more likely the weight gain is water - either through high sodium or hormonal changes (it is normal to retain a few pounds of water before your menstrual cycle). Most people cannot lose fat and gain muscle together as it takes many, many calories to BUILD a pound of muscle. Most…

I just threw my pair away after 3 years (I know you are supposed to replace shoes every 6 months but I waited until the seams fell apart on mine). I got lots of questions at first a couple of years ago if I lost weight and I always said, "No, I eat too much." Anyway, I lost weight once I started eating healthy and…

I believe starvation mode is something that happens when someone drastically restricts their calories for a long period of time and then they stop losing weight and continue trying to slash calories until they are eating a ridiculously low amount each day - maybe 800-1000 calories - though I've seen some short people on…

It has to do with the glycogen stores in your liver (to some extent) and what you eat. If one is under on calories all week long, it is quite possible the person is not getting enough protein in their diet - the body needs protein to function and when in short supply it gets it where it can - when not available in the diet…

Your doctor probably will not allow you to lose weight during pregnancy, but will rather focus on a healthy weight gain - normally this is bout 25-30 lbs, but your doctor may have you aim for 15-20 instead (I don't know) if you already have some extra weight. As someone else said, you will need about 300 extra calories,…

Adopt a shelter pet and please spay and neuter :flowerforyou: PS - I'm a veternarian!

Since you cannot spot reduce, a total body fat loss plan ought to do the trick. You will need to eat clean, at a deficit, and incorporate some strength training (with the HEAVIEST weights you can lift) and some cardio and you will have success eventually if you stay consistent. I know I've really simplified this answer,…

I am blessed with many. It just sort of happened. Some I requested, some request me. I never say no. Like a previous poster, I post quite a bit on the message boards and write a weekly blog and one way or another, after logging for 363 days in a row (but who's counting), I've somehow managed to meet quite a few wonderful…

My daughters are 4 and 2 and I'm pregnant with #3. I get up at 4:30 am and workout at home while everyone is sleeping. Sometimes, I'll do it at 8:00 or later in the evening after kids go to bed - but morning usually works better for me. You just HAVE TO make it a priority or it won't happen. Do I love getting up at 4:30?…

Is it because size 6 today is bigger than size 6 from the 80's or 90's? Still, sounds a bit over the top to me.

I can't resist. While I would LOVE to be able to cultivate close friendships with a few people - I spend most of my time on MFP either logging my diary (haven't missed a calorie in 362 days!) or here on the message boards. Consequently - I get friend requests. I *could* put on my profile that I'm not taking friend…

Oh, I'm SO guilty of saying good job on a diary without reading it... but ONLY if someone else said it first! :ohwell:

I agree with the poster who said "heavy" is relative. Heavy for me the first time was about 40 lbs on the bar. I gradually increased that. Now, I've been lifting (my) heavy for 9 months now. You can see I have HUGE BULKING GUNS! I too, read The New Rules of Lifting for Women by Lou Schuler, recently completed it and LOVE…

Good stuff. :)

This. Exactly. And just keep aiming for healthy fats, which you are already doing. I'm almost always over on fat and I don't sweat it too much.
-
I got this alot the last 10 lbs. I would just tell people that I was focused on being healthy and where I end up, that's where I'll end up, but not to worry - I wasn't starving.

I hate sweet tea. I'm from the South. I've been told I'm un-American because of this.

Age is just a number. Most people's brains don't change that much after 18 anyway. (add me if you'd like)

I was going to simply say "eat and exercise" but I really like some of these other answers better. And don't dicount the poster who recommended The New Rules of Lifting for Women - go buy this book. Like right now. Seriously stop reading and go to BnN or BAM and get your copy. Or go here:…

Yes, yes you must. You will not be sorry. The best $10 I EVER spent on my health and fitness.

The author says you need to eat.... but.... I'm one of THOSE women who was still kinda sort of scared to. My main goal was fat loss and not muscle gains, so I ate at a deficit - a small one. My maintenance calories are roughly 1700 and I tried to eat about 1500 calories a day. I just ATE 1500 calories regardless of what I…
