  • Clothes NSVs are the best. Well done you! Yesterday I had to spend the whole morning in a cafe (due to internet failure at home and I had to work). Three hours and I managed to shun the food section in favour of skimmed milk coffees only. Cakes, muffins and any old combination of flour, fat and sugar is my absolute…

  • I think you are in an extremely tough position and good on you for always trying to do your best. However - for the sake of family (and appreciating that you probably need and rely on the support they can provide you), don't feel too angry at your sister. She might have her own stuff going on which is masking why she has…
  • Hilarious
  • Am having a serious case of body envy right now.... Well done on your achievements to date.
  • What a great idea for a post! Thanks.
  • One idea - look up "fitness blender barre workouts". Much of these are based on ballet exercises which are done standing at a bar for some support (your reception desk?) Admittedly, you might have to pick and choose the exercises which will work. Some might look a bit ridiculous if you're doing them as somebody comes to…
  • I think you're right and that the calorie count is way too low. I'd be surprised if the oil content alone was less than 35kcal (and I don't think it matters if you don't see oil on the spoon - the potato would have soaked up a load of that yummy fat during cooking).
  • Homemade soup in a flask. Satisfying and a whole meal in one, (depending what you put in it). If you don't like hot soup at this time of year - try a nice chilled soup: gazpacho or vichyssoise. Cold soups are massively underrated in my opinion!
  • Agreed. And they've only just started paying UK corporate taxes. Shocking, generic, and depressing. The fact that everyone is here from all corners of the globe talking about the exact same coffee is just awful. Go support your local coffee shop. :smooched:
  • Love the surprise ones that creep up on you to show how far you've come. That's awesome.
  • I did day two of "ripped in 30" today. Nothing brilliant about that. But, I started yesterday and was embarrassed at how tough I found it. My gym closes for the Summer, and I have done NO EXERCISE since then....(and before you say "WTF: YOUR GYM CLOSES FOR THE SUMMER?!?" - it's just a symptom of where I live, OK!). Before…
  • This. And find out the things you enjoy which help you to your goal. They are the easiest to keep doing with less effort. Which exercises are your favourite? Which low calorie snacks seem to always hit the spot?
  • I've seen Jim's posts on a few different strings recently. Just to say, I really appreciate his even tone and sensible, empathetic approach. Listen to him!
  • only needed until habit kicks in.....
  • Potatoes are great in most homemade soups. The starch thickens them up and gives them a creamy consistency. Also, for all those on this post that are freaking out about potatoes - you don't have to consume all that many in a soup and there are lots of other good things you are enjoying at the same time (e.g. veg!). Fry an…
  • "It's OK - it's OLIVE oil" said whilst drizzling (aka ladling) it over EVERYTHING.
  • Love this example. I don't know whether it will work or not, but seems to make sense to SUPPORT the weak back by surrounding it with strong, supportive muscle rather than wobbly fat. I'm inspired.
  • I've seen a lot of criticism recently of forum members on this site, for unduly criticizing people and appearing unsympathetic - but I have to say, all of these posts here (above - can't comment on those that follow) appear eminently sound, caring and sensible in my opinion. Please listen to them OP.
  • Hmm. This is missing the point. You are regarding those restaurants that AREN'T publishing these figures as "the bad guys". However, think of the litigation risk. Some customers (unfortunately) wouldn't take calorie estimates in good faith and then blame restaurateurs for making them fat if they mistakenly provided the…
  • Do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC9VbwyEG8U The weights you have are probably too heavy for this, but don't worry - just use a couple of cans of food or water bottles full of water...at a push, just don't use any weights when specified, the exercises are still good, especially if you focus on your form....bet you…
  • This recipe is great for freezing - either eat it on its own (it is balanced enough I think), or if you've got some extra calories left over, serve with rice, over a potato, in a tortilla or just with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of cheese. Cheap too:…
  • Look up fitnessblender workouts on youtube. I plug this stuff any opportunity (which is suspicious, I know), but I love it. The workouts are easy or difficult, depending on your ability / mood - most can be done without equipment and the narration is really balanced I find - motivating enough but also friendly and…
  • Regardless of your specific views on this topic - I think it is great that the OP has taken the time to re-iterate an important and basic point - "measure and weigh your food". YES, we are all estimating - just make it the best estimate you possibly can. I had a similar epiphany about something "obvious" this morning -…
  • I salute your courage - it's more than I will ever have. However, you have motivated me just now to at least TAKE some pictures (something I haven't done yet) to use for myself (rather than post them)....I hope that is good enough for now. Good luck in your journey.
  • Great ideas everyone!
  • Fantastic! I really admire your progress - well done!

  • I feel really bad for you that you're not seeing results....that must be HARD especially when it sounds like you're doing SUPERBLY well. (Well done). In this interim period, are you at least FEELING better? More energy? More positive outlook? etc, etc?
  • I'm no expert, and while I understand the debate about what exactly is meant (and achievable) by the term "toned", but I think I understand the "look" the OP is after. I've done a fair few different exercises over the years - usually focused on cardio. However, I've read a lot on this site about heavy lifting, which I'm…
  • That is a huge difference in such a short amount of time! Well done. You look great. I bet you feel great too.
