  • I used to work at a drug store. One night I was at the photo booth. The pharmacist had already gone home for the day. A customer came and asked me what to get to put on her foot. I told her I couldn't give medical advice and the pharmacist wouldn't be back till morning. She proceeded to take her shoe off and put her foot…
  • My favorite thing on the grill is Onion Soup. Take a big Vidalia onion, hollow out the inside with a spoon or melon baller. You want to take quite a bit out, but don't go through the bottom. Then put a beef boullion cube and a tablespoon of butter inside. Wrap it in tin foil and grill till soft and brown(mine take about an…
  • I just read through this whole post and you're doing great! I started week 9 last night and every week along the way I had my doubts that I'd be able to do it. But I did it every time, and it still surprises me when I think about it. It's such a great feeling isn't it? The best part for me is the moments where I forget…
  • That really is fantastic! Some days I'm taking it one minute at a time too :)
  • A few months ago I would have picked the cheese. But now I can live without that. Oral on the other hand...
  • You look fantastic! I hope I can get there someday.
  • If someone else offers you food you only have one choice. Eat it all!
  • Anything works if you're dedicated to it. If a program works it is more a reflection of you than it is of the program. Counting calories is proven to work, but no it's not a perfect system. The best thing I've learned from my fitness pal is to be more aware of what I'm putting into my body. I'm in control of my weight…
  • Oh I almost forgot, way to go! 37 lbs is amazing!
  • I'm not really sure how to handle it but I agree it can be discouraging. What bugs me is when people say something like "what's your secret?" or "I don't know how you lose so easily." There's no secret, and there's nothing easy about it. It's been really freaking hard. There's nothing you can do to make someone else start…
  • Regular depression is just as valid as post-partum depression, and it can make weight loss extremely difficult. So can many other illnesses and conditions, both mental and physical. But I strongly believe that anybody can lose weight if they are determined enough. Saying it's impossible because of "such and such" condition…
  • I used to drink 2L of diet pepsi every day. Along with a couple energy drinks, and the occasional iced coffee. Then one day I went without it and the headaches were horrible. Nearly unbearable. I realized if something can make me feel that crappy just from not having it for one day it probably isn't good for me. I looked…
  • It's been said a bunch of times, but definitely check out couch to 5k. I'm about to start week 9 (holy crap, I just realized I'm on the last week!) right now and it's fantastic. When I started I was in the 280s, and never run a bit in my life. Now I can run 28 minutes straight. I still can't believe it most of the time. My…
  • I'm so sorry you have to put up with all that negativity. If the people in your life are making negative comments now it's not going to magically change when you lose weight. Their negative comments are a reflection of their character, not a reflection of you. It's really hard but you have to learn how to let this stuff…
  • If me and my husband have to get up at different times I use the alarm on my phone set to vibrate and put it under my pillow. He doesn't even notice when it goes off.
  • You look amazing! That was just the kind of inspiration I was looking for today.
  • I always take my hip measurements at my widest part (which does end up being around my bottom), then I take my waist measurement at my narrowest part (just under my bust), I also take a measurement at my belly button.
  • I want to be able to chase my kids around the yard. Walk up the stairs without getting out of breath. Look in the mirror and not be disgusted. Be able to enjoy having my picture taken.
  • Only certain tests are done fasting, cholesterol for example. B12 is not a fasting blood test. I would probably ask to see the lab order and find out exactly what he's testing.
  • The doctor may be right in having you get blood tests before anything else, to rule out something more serious. But even if that is the case he should have explained that to you. If you leave a doctor's office without having a proper understanding of what he is doing and why then your doctor isn't doing his job.
  • Don't think about running a 5k right now. Think about running the next 10 feet, think about the sun on your face, or what you're going to eat when you get home. I'm on week 8 right now, and when I started it just didn't seem possible. I remember thinking there was no way I could ever run 3 minutes. But I'm up to 28 now and…
  • Thank you for the replies  I don't think an actual running store is an option, it's just too far away. It's pretty much just Olympia sports or Wal-Mart. I'm in rural Maine. So it sounds like I'm on my own, how do I go about buying shoes without a fitting? I do have wide feet (not as wide as they used to be, yay!),…

  • Welcome! It doesn't really seem to make sense but adding exercise will actually give you more energy. I find that running after a long day is a great stress reliever. I'm doing the couch to 5k program, and I could not recommend it more. Whatever you do if you stick with it long enough it will get easier.
  • People who've never been heavy just don't understand some things. I know I've been made to feel stupid or helpless because of my weight before. I'm glad you found this site, there are a lot of people here who do know what you're going through, just ignore the know-it-alls. Send me a friend request if you want
  • There's nothing wrong with making it easier on yourself. If having small goals makes it seem less daunting than that's what you should do. I don't believe you'd give up once you get to your first goal. It's exciting to reach a goal, and it will only make you want more. I know for me I don't even know what my ultimate goal…

  • Big Love they took the easy way out by killing off Bill
  • I weigh 270 right now and I'm on week 8. It's fantastic! I couldn't recommend it more! Just be careful, pay attention to your body, and make sure to take all your rest days. Add me if you want :flowerforyou:
  • I did it all myself, there's no one else to blame. I made bad choices. Now I make better choices, and no one's going to get me in shape but me.
  • The point is if someone is new, you're right they don't know about the search feature. And maybe after you give a helpful response to their question you could politely point it out. But if they're just starting out on a weight loss journey and they worked up the courage to ask a question, even if it's something we see…
