One suggestion for the cookie monster--make low carb versions, like this: https://www.wholesomeyum.com/recipes/oatmeal-cookies/

wow, I am making these this weekend! thanks @canadjineh

I listened to this episode this morning, the host doc mentioned how his patients have all cured NAFLD since going keto. The next episode is going to cover it in more detail. http://lowcarbmd.com/episode-9-dr-ethan-weiss (also, Dr. Weiss plugs his latest breath tester gizmo, which looks overpriced...)

You may be able to find the dried ones in an Asian food shop. They are called kuromame. edited: found a link that shows the dried uncooked ones: https://www.ebay.com/itm/262688877023 I made some for my Japanese family for the new year's celebrations, following the traditional oshogatsu recipe--tons of sugar added--but you…

not this year, but a few years back, in my stocking hubby gave me 2 handheld milk frothers from the dollar store! ;D

Merry Christmas from Tokyo, where it is almost over... enjoy the holidays wherever you are!

Hi, here is the Type 1 Grit web link -- read up, and join the facebook group to ask questions about Type 1 on keto. Very helpful people. http://typeonegrit.blogspot.com/

I buy the Korean nori packs in the grocery here in Tokyo -- for once, it is cheaper where I live :) Use them to wrap olives and cheese, or just fold them into a square and stuff them in my mouth. The salt and sesame flavour is delicious. LIke this, only without the rice! If you buy the 12-inch square Japanese nori at an…

thanks for posting. Now I need some time to watch it all!

You all do a great job as mods! thanks

I hear ya. I listened to this one this morning, and was grateful for Masterjohn's analysis. thanks for the link, @cstehansen.

Will download this episode from his podcast -- easier to listen and ffwd than watch! Lately I have gotten less amenable to listening to all the nutritional (wo)mansplainers who love to hear themselves talk in my podcast feed. Why don't they let their interviewee do the talking instead of interrupting them? /rant off

Or you could go carnivore like Fit_Goat. Lots of variety in the animal kingdom!
-
One other point to consider is that if you are exercising, you will get hungrier. Try not exercising for a week or two to ease into the keto adjustment to see if that helps reduce the hunger pangs.
-
I just listened to this today, the guest doctor talks about how fiber can gum up the works in some people: http://humanperformanceoutliers.libsyn.com/website/episode-38-dr-paul-mason Seems that the carnivore diet can fix that.

You can see my loss trend in my icon pic, lately its been up a couple kilos. But a (bumpy) flat line in maintenance since 2015 or so. kcko!

ooh, sounds good! recipe link please

me too. I feel best between 20 to 50 carbs a day, and I feel more tired/hypoglycemic if the carbs creep up. I guess I am fat adapted! lcfh since 2013.
-
Heading out tomorrow to one in Tokyo, hopefully will find some of the same things here!
-
Congrats on your progress. kcko!
-
why we say keep calm and keto on! it works.
-
I will be flying from Tokyo to Toronto next week -- booked a gluten free meal as they don't have a low carb option, hope it works. If not, I will just fast--and bingewatch movies... :)

I did a fat fast a few weeks ago to recover from a party weekend away... lost the 2 kg I gained in water weight plus the 2 kg I gained over last December's feasting! kinda boring but it works. Put me into ketosis for sure, which I often fall out of doing my lchf 50grams of carbs WOE.…

What she said! "eat fat to satiety" means that when you feel low, eat a spoonful of something fatty and see how you feel in an hour. And drink more water. With salt if you need it.

I just wanted to add that the ideal protein for each of us is probably different, given age, health situations, how athletic we are and whatever else affects our reactions to what we eat. N=1 is the best way to figure out your best levels, though it can be hard to know when you are on the right track. kcko!

Dr. Ben Bikman has spoken about protein on several podcasts recently, such as this one that has a timeline that you can scan if you don't have time to listen: https://www.biohackerslab.com/ep42-dr-benjamin-bikman/ He makes the point that keeping protein too low can be a problem especially as we age past 40, and says don't…
