  • I did low carb in 2014-2015 when in my late 50s strictly, managed in that time to lose 11 kg (about 22lbs, shown in my avatar here) but then added back wine... Gained back a bit and maintained until last year, working from home has cut my movement drastically. Gained back now about 10 kg, so am trying to get back into…

  • and here is a link: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10103966/start-here-the-lcd-launch-pad#latest Lots of good stuff in there! ;)
  • I walk and do yoga and pilates classes 4-5 times a week, not for weight loss but for stretching and flexibility and maintaining strength as I get old, lol. But the best advice is to do whatever you like to do and have time and interest in doing regularly, consistently. Lots of sites recommend lifting weights, body weight…

  • Hi and welcome! Best advice is to keep calm and keto on... stick with it and keep your carb intake as low as you can each day, aim for 20 carbs or less total daily (log on MFP to figure it out). IF you feel tired or flu-like in the early days, drink salty consommé or bone broth or just a dab of salt on your hand... it goes…
  • Hi and welcome Sue. I know the early days are confusing for low carbers. For net carbs, one thing to know is that if you live in Europe/UK, the label on a product may already be listing just net carbs. In the US, subtract the fiber number from the total carb listed to get the net carb. Also, fiber may or may not affect…
  • I too noticed the falloff from 2020, and yes, those FB groups and pages on keto and low carb are booming. But I come back here for the sanity and low drama these days ... nobody is trying to sell me stuff here. :) Waving to everyone who has been here since 2013 when I also joined. Hope the newer members have good results…
  • As @russellholtslander1 said, it is normal to want to eat those old carby foods again, but you have to think about how they make you feel after you come down from that dopamine hit... So one way I do this is to use low carb versions of old favs, like egg-white bread (Maria Emmerich recipes) or things like chaffles or…
  • Welcome back! you are going to be feeling much better ;)
  • Avocados should be plentiful in Florida and are potassium rich, but also high in fiber so ok for most folks on keto. Beans are high in carbs, so keto recipes usually keep them to a minimum. You can decide how much your body can handle by how you feel after eating them, or by measuring your blood glucose or ketones (if you…
  • Agree with Baconslave, 800 cals is not even enough to meet your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) needs per day. However, you can lose fat on a PSMF of about 800 cals per day, but the recommendation is to do one day per week, or maybe 1-2 days per week, with full calorie refeed days in between to prevent your metabolism from…
  • I have been supplementing with a scoop of collagen in my morning coffee most days for the past few years, and I notice a big improvement in my nail and hair growth. I am in my 60s and postmenopausal, it seems to have helped me improve my protein uptake. I know collagen is not a complete protein, but it helps me. I am…
  • Good for you for sticking with it. Have you read Dr. Bernstein's book? He has lots of detail about blood sugars and levels to aim for. http://www.diabetes-book.com/ He started monitoring his own blood glucose in the early 1970s, before the small monitors were available.
  • I can't buy ready made low carb wraps where I live, so I have to make them. I made her Keto egg fast Snickerdoodle ones today for lunch, but now these caught my eye for tomorrow! https://www.ibreatheimhungry.com/keto-sandwich-wraps-sun-dried-tomato/
  • love those big-assed salads! welcome to the group. Just eat fat to satiety, that is enough.
  • Welcome to the group -- we have all been there and done that in the main forums... Lots of LC info is available in the Launchpad, though you probably have it covered after 10 years! There is also a Keto group on MFP too. https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10103966/start-here-the-lcd-launch-pad#latest
  • Yes, I am 64, 5'7" and about 160 lbs and I feel better if I can get at least 70 gr protein in a day, though some days I don't make even that. I use whey powder to get a bit more in, though sometimes feel sleepy after drinking a shake that is just almond milk, whey and coffee blended together. Eating protein in real food…
  • The cheapest way to increase ketones is to fast regularly on water/tea/coffee with nothing added for a day or so. Once you burn through the stored glycogen in your body, you begin to make your own ketones. Read Dr. Jason Fung on fasting https://thefastingmethod.com/books/ to get tips on how to do it safely, and you won't…
  • @cherie8525 If you are looking for fiber, you might try 1 Tbsp chia seeds soaked in a cup of water for an hour or so, drink it down once a day. It is 0 carbs but good fiber. Keeps me happy and regular! ;) I also mix in some apple cider vinegar and cinnamon to liven things up... lol.
  • Yes, the Launchpad has lots of good tips. Other sites that I like are www.dietdoctor.com and Dr. Fung's youtube videos. Both have lots of free advice and recipes. Feel free to post any questions that you have here. And keep calm and keto on!
  • Sorry! Here is the correct link. https://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/
  • I also like the ketogenicforums.com, which is not related to MFP. It was started by the 2KetoDudes podcast guys several years back, and there is a lot of good information posted there. It sometimes goes offline, though, so keep trying if you can't get in right away. Good luck with your journey!
  • LDL is not the main indicator of diabetes, your blood sugar levels are -- what is your HbA1C? Above 6.5 is considered diabetic according to most charts, I think. You can read about LDL on www.cholesterolcode.com -- it is a bit geeky but good information from Dave Feldman. He has a protocol you can follow for the three days…
  • Here are two more good sites for keto recipes: alldayidreamaboutfood: (also on Pinterest): https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwidhcbUjMbxAhUKVpQKHSuiAK8QFjAAegQIBxAD&url=https%3A%2F%2Falldayidreamaboutfood.com%2F&usg=AOvVaw30qMsNAGsJjfKQa7yFo5uz and Linda's low carb site…
  • Hi and welcome to the group! We have a lot of info here on getting started with low carb: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10103966/start-here-the-lcd-launch-pad#latest A few years back, someone set up a free way to see net carbs on a PC (not the app) with an add-on browser script. You can find it here:…

  • Looks like the labels show net carbs, so don't deduct the fibre. https://sa.atkins.com/blog/carb-counting-in-australia-and-nz-it-differs-from-the-usa/
  • Something must be working. I woke up today with energy to do laundry and some cleaning, as well as a bit of weed pulling! unheard of lately. Must have ketones! I don't measure them, just feel them...
  • I hope to up my kettlebell beginner workouts consistently and keep carbs low, low, low with Keto AF-- animal foods keto!
