@Sunny_Bunny I have one of the Sweary ones; gave a copy to my friend who loves to swear! Amazon sells them.

My dear old dad was a meat cutter, and regularly brought home roasts and pork chops and lovely fatty meat for the family dinners. Then in the late 70s, my mom became "health conscious" and we all started cutting off the excess fat. :( When I moved to Japan in the early 80s, I was shocked that everyone there still ate all…

Dr. Fung just posted a blog about blood sugar research... The UKPDS (United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes Study) was a huge study undertaken in the UK to see if intensive blood glucose lowering in T2D would prevent end organ damage over long run. The DCCT study mentioned previously had already established the paradigm of…

I am 5'7" and lost about 11 kg (24lbs) over about a year and a half doing low carb (not always keto)... the key for me was intermittent fasting and low calorie intake around 1200-1300/day, I think. I am maintaining on around 1450 cals per day--some of us have that slow metabolism :( My diary is open.

2ketodudes said in the latest podcast that someone suggested using the phrase "carb withdrawal" instead of keto flu, because that is closer to what it is. Makes sense to me.

My husband's yummy Okinawan style pork: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafute I would eat it everyday. He doesn't use sugar in it, though. Just salt.

Somebody on this group mentioned http://www.copymethat.com/sharing/ for clipping recipes... I use it on my ipad in the kitchen. Also did the same with Evernote. Saves paper! I still have the two battered old 1930s-40s era cookbooks my mom and dad used. Recipes for geese and offal included... looks like this image from the…

Thanks for that link! It broke about a month ago. Yay, all fixed.

I used http://nomnompaleo.com/post/3615609338/slow-cooker-beef-bone-broth but with a chicken carcass... For keto, don't recommend separating the fat out or low salt :) I first time threw away the veg after cooking for 2 days, but then tried blending the veg fiber up and pouring it back in the soup. I freeze some in ice…

Here is some inspiration! Wish my back was that flexible in my old age... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3108043/Plus-size-yoga-teacher-urges-curvy-women-fight-skinny-stereotypes-embrace-yogi-lifestyle-no-matter-shape-size.html

I lost my weight doing 40-80 carbs per day, mostly. Took a year and a half to lose 11kg, so it was slow. But it worked for me. Also, this group is called Low Carbers' Daily Forum, not Keto, for that very reason. :) Keep at it and you will sort it out to work for you. Good luck!

B) bump for today

I had that same problem at first, and a lactation consultant nurse found me a plastic nipple cover/shield so that the baby would suckle better--kinda faked him out into thinking it was a bottle! The bottles confuse the process -- its easier to feed with a bottle, so the baby gets mad and won't work at the real thing... I…

Try this: butter and egg yolks! http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/bearnaise-sauce-395049

Can you buy full fat milk and make your own? It's pretty easy, and cheap if you can keep the starter going.

Lol about the Japanese breakfast... most younger people here don't eat that anymore, as toast and cereals are being pushed more.

Take a scroll through the sites listed here in the Launchpad too... http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10348430/recipe-tips-websites-lcd-group-member-recipes?new=1 My simplest lc dessert is a tblspoon full of peanut butter :)

I am in the same boat as you both, age 59, 5 ft 7 in, female now 70-71 kg -- my weight loss was on about 1200 cals a day, 3 years ago. I am maintaining on 1400-1500 cals a day. @saltysailors, try going low on sugars, alcohol and dairy for a week and see if anything moves. Or try a fat fast or egg fast?

I usually say, "I avoid bread, beer or sugary stuff" and then add that it is like Atkins induction.

BACON!

Linia, I eat LCHF most of the time, after losing 11kg in 2013. Still need to stick with this woe because every time I go off the plan, I gain weight! And I feel much better on lower carbs. I am not strict keto though. Love reading posts in this group--it keeps me thinking right!

You'll get there. kcko!

I did this with daikon slices...no parsnips here much. Fried in bacon grease. Yum.

Either is ok, just be sure to take enough. There is a protocol on this page to try. http://www.constipation-remedies-for-all.com/magnesium-for-constipation.html

Yes, eating more carbs on weekends will throw you out of ketosis if you are in it, leading to stalls (voice of experience here). But if you feel good, and can stay on track from Monday to Friday, then give it a try. Be ready to adjust if it isn't working, though. keep calm and keto on!

Me three. I just had a weekend of fun, ate mostly low carb, but had a few sugary treats and extra wine... came back 2 kg up! Need to get right back on track for the next week or two to lose it again. Lather, rinse, repeat...

If you want to understand the physics of CICO, give this a read (Jason Fung's latest blog post): http://us7.campaign-archive1.com/?u=4f49b1bc5c73173b727fe0ca2&id=8d7eb1c9da&e=07510dda63

Here is a good link explaining the two K words... Ketosis is usually 0.5 to 3 millimolars of ketones, ketoacidosis starts at 11 or higher, I heard on a recent podcast (2ketodudes, I think). http://eatingacademy.com/nutrition/is-ketosis-dangerous key point: But this state of metabolic derangement is not actually possible in…

Also, this one has lots of science explained well: The World Turned Upside Down: The Second Low-Carbohydrate Revolution by Richard David Feinman https://www.amazon.com/World-Turned-Upside-Down-Low-Carbohydrate-ebook/dp/B00QZDORCI

Great numbers! Mine are similar, all in target range except for total cholesterol, which is higher. How was yours? did they give you flack over it, if it was higher? (I know that LCHF ups total cholesterol, so not worried.)
