  • Have been logging daily but not reading the forum... did a yoga class online this morning, and Pilates class yesterday too, so that is an improvement. Tried to do protein-sparing modified fast, but failed ;) so back to keto macros from today.
  • Basically, I see the Induction phase of old Atkins as equal to keto (25 grams carbs or less per day). As many of us gain when we add back in carbs, we stick to induction indefinitely until ready to shift to a maintenance level of carbs.
  • WHOA, where'd that week go? I have been logging daily, tried a fat fast for a few days, then switched to Protein Sparing Modified Fast. I have found hard to meet the low cal level while staying under the fat and carb limits... so still at it. At least have stopped gaining in this covid isolation, which is a good thing.
  • I don't know why he would say that, but most books/sources on keto say don't slack off one week a month, or do carb nights, or that sort of thing because it takes you so long to get back into keto after slipping out. Just keep calm and keto on! Congrats on getting back into it.
  • Got my hour's walk in this morning, not raining and not yet too hot so perfect cloudy weather--and a neighbor gifted me 2 cukes and some cherry tomatoes, so winning! have a good Friday everyone.
  • I like Dana Carpender's keto books -- her Fat Fast one also helps when you are in a pinch! Be aware that her old books were more low carbish than keto, but the recent ones are good. https://www.amazon.com/Dana-Carpender/e/B00IVX9T5K
  • So far, so good! I am doing an old-style Atkins fat fast -- 80% fat, vl carbs and medium protein. Lost a kilogram already in 2 days (water weight no doubt) but starting to feel back in ketosis. The goal is to keep on in ketosis (rather than slip into wobbly lc) for as long as I can. Hopeful to lose a bit more too. Doing…
  • Sounds like a plan! I am in. Will aim to walk more, work out more and eat better keto. ganbarimasu!
  • Yep, so I am on an Atkins fat fast starting today, aiming to get into ketosis and to start logging again! I quit the daily MFP habit on Jan 1, and now regret that I did. Gained 4 kilos or so, esp. since March working from home. Binged on peanut butter and nuts, so now those are off the table. Here's hoping it works.
  • I started using the Simple app for fasting, it has a few more bells and whistles, reminders to drink water, etc. I can easily do 22 hours with coffee and water, tea, etc. But once I start eating... hard to stop! ;)
  • Here's a list of zero carb foods, just pick some of them? You can eat hard-boiled eggs for snacks, meat for breakfast --whatever you like! Just avoid high-carb things. https://lowcarbediem.com/atkins-zero-carb-foods-list-free-download/
  • Unfortunately carbs from any source will cause me to retain water and get puffy under my eyes and in my lower legs. It is the main reason I keep my carbs low--hate that puffiness!
  • I like pork rinds -- chicharonnes-- they are salty and crunchy but 0 carbs. Also, you might check out this Dr. Westman list of lc foods, tried and true! good luck to you. https://www.dietdoctor.com/se/wp-content/2014/10/no_sugar_no_starch_diet.pdf
  • I am in Tokyo, so big yes to all the things @weatherking2019 listed! I stick to grilled chicken and yakitori at the convenience stores for quick lunches. Soba (buckwheat noodles) is good, but are often made mixed with wheat flour, so beware if you have blood sugar problems. There is a steak chain called Ikenari Steak that…
  • I eat 30 to 50 gr, sometimes more, sometimes less, per day. I think I feel better on less but life happens. It all depends on how insulin resistant you are--if severely so, you won't tolerate higher amounts. (ie, you will stall, feel sleepy after eating, etc.) And it will change over time, so change it up from time to time.
  • Keep it simple, and take a look at the recipes/websites link in the Launchpad here for food ideas: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10348430/recipe-tips-websites-lcd-group-member-recipes?new=1
  • I wish I could buy Brazil nuts cheaper in Japan -- they have an import restriction on all nuts and seeds, and it is hard to find them at good prices here.
  • This movie is soon coming out, based much on her book: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/fat-a-documentary#/

  • Welcome back! I think most keto docs are in agreement that it helps heal NAFLD, it can't hurt. Good luck to you.
  • If you or anyone has curiosity about eating LCHF or keto, check out the group on MFP called Low Carber Daily Forum. Lots of people thriving on it for years... Here is a discussion on avoiding keto flu:…
  • Heard this podcast this morning, on the same topic. http://humanperformanceoutliers.libsyn.com/episode-109-dr-angela-stanton I sometimes get the ocular type of migraine, usually from eyestrain. Working on computers all day, reading ipad on the commute home--not a great combination. But lchf has helped a lot.
  • It puts an old thread up at the top of the list so you can see it. And maybe, read the original post and visit the Launchpad for helpful tips! we aim to help the newbies...
  • bumping for the new low carbers!
  • There is one theory about pee strips that says once you are fat adapted and your body adjusts to burning fat and producing ketones, you no longer have any ketones to waste in your pee, so the pee strips don't show any. Doesn't necessarily mean you are not in ketosis. Keep calm and Keto on! you are doing fine.
  • Beware adding in too many carbs--I gained 2 kg over xmas and now am having a tough time losing it again. Keep reminding myself that they fatten cattle on carbs... ;) good luck!
