  • OP, I suggest you read this thread. It may offer some insights and suggestions you may not have considered. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1268958-over-40-fitness
  • You have received ALOT of great advice here. And I get you trying to figure out what pieces to try out. As our bodies are different, what works for some, may not work for others...but I definitely see there is some repeating advice: 1) up the protein...it should be equal if not more than the carbs; 2) strengh training, and…
  • Whoa..I am not jealous of any of the 20-30 something gals at the gym. Most will be lucky to look as good as me at 46! Heck, I look better than many I see now and I have the self- confidence that comes with age. Many young gals at the gyms I go to are overweight...and this at an age when their metabolism is the highest. The…
  • This ^^^! Stress is a vicious cycle. Last summer, before I went on my program, stress came from external and internal forces. The internal ones --- myself. I was stressed out about perimenopause, hormonal imbalance and how these two factors negated any efforts I made to lose weight. We know stresses causes the release of…
  • For me, in able to lose weight, burn fat and build strength, I did a complete 180 in the way I exercised and what I ate. CALORIE DEFICIT is not the answer! Yeah, you read that correctly. That seems to be the blanket answer on MFP and it IRKS me! On days that I don't exercise, I am always over...yet because of what I am…
  • I agree, this is a very positive and supportive thread! Friend me if you'd like. My diary is only open for my friends.
  • I am 46; will be 47 in July. Also, am perimenopausal. In August last year, I cleaned up my nutrition and really limited my alcohol intake. At our age, IMO, it is not only how much we eat, but what we eat. My body didnt know what to do with all the preservatives and gluten in processed foods...so it just held onto it. In…
  • You should go to the websites and read about the reasonings and equations behind their calculations. You plug in more than just your average heart rate. The HRM (polar) uses a different equation to calculate calories burned....which I dont believe to be the most accurate. The equation is the key!
  • Actually, IMO, neither MFP nor the HRM are accurate in actually knowing calories burned. While calories burned is a feature of a HRM, the main purpose of a HRM is monitor your heart rate; not to calculate calories burned. I have a HRM that provides the average heart rate. Then I plug in the numbers in a "calories burned"…
  • I like the pancake syrup and use it regularly. I use the caramel sauce in recipes that call for brown sugar. I have added the chocolate and strawberry syrups in my protein shakes. I like the hot/spicy BBQ and have added marshmallow dip in my homemade protein bars. Other than that....every dressing I have tried...I have…
  • Bumping this back up to the top...hoping some TDEE peeps will respond.... Really would like to hear some TDEE success stories and that I don't need to worry about eating more carbs than protein! I will maintain and/or continue to burn fat.
  • I get a BOD POD done once a month (part of the workout training program I am in). At 5'2", 133 lbs...size 6....Bod Pod has me at 37% BF. And yet if you saw me....you would think NO WAY! And I would agree..I have no explanation. I have come to conclude that the Bod Pod does not accurately reflect my healthy lifestyle…
  • I am 46 too! I totally get the feeling bloated and blah feeling. I felt that way in August before I changed my nutrition. In August, I quit eating processed foods, refined sugar, gluten and began to make everything I ate. (Unless we went out to dinner.) In 2010, I lost 25 lbs just counting calories and cutting back on my…
  • I am 5'2, 136lbs. My trainer/nutitionist has me at 140-160g a day.. Everyday, regardless if i am training. Alot of lean meats and protein shakes. Also, glutamine will help with muscle building and recovery.
  • I carb cycle. So on days when I eat zero to low complex carbs AND exercise, I can easily have over 500+. On days when I eat 100+ grms in complex carbs and don't exercise, I will be over. I watch my proteins and complex carbs more than I watch calories. Yesterday was a low carb day and a double workout. I had over 1000…
  • Agree with this. When I ate alot of processed foods and gluten, I felt bloated, tired and depressed about how I looked and felt inside and out. I stopped eating all processed foods and began cooking my own food back in August. I feel totally 180 degrees better and have tons of energy! The fat is burning off and the muscles…
  • http://allrecipes.com/recipe/homemade-sweet-italian-sausage-mild-or-hot/ This looks good and easy. Made with ground turkey...a much healthier choice.
  • I make my own "sausage" for breakfast. Not sure it would work for cooking in dinner recipes...but you can try this recipe without the sweet stuff. There are plenty of recipes out there to make your own turkey and chicken sausage. You just have to find one you like. Maple Turkey Breakfast Sausage Patties Nutrition Info:…
  • I use the Polar FT4 to monitor my heart rate and calculate my average BPMs. Then plug in the average BPMs into one of these calorie-burned calculators. http://www.calories-calculator.net/Calories_Burned_By_Heart_Rate.html or…
  • They were flavorless and gross. Cardboard!
  • My best NSV is realizing that the scale is probably the worst indicator of what is truly going on with my body. So "SATAN's LITTLE HELPER" (the scale) has been put away for good and has no more control over me. Instead, I take measurements and do a body pod analysis (which calculates my TRUE %s of fat and muscle) every…
  • Well I found the discrepancy..... In order to get the 73 calorie cupcake, you have to use the Super Moist with the calories per serving being calculated at 1/10 of the package. My box was 1/12 of the package which is why it had more calories...320 more calories. WOW! So, I am tossing out the ones I made yesterday and will…
  • Ok....i made these today--15 oz can of the Libbys pure pumpkin and a box of chocolate cake mix. Yet, when i entered the recipe for 22 servings/cupcakes, it says 94 calories per cupcake. I know two less would add more calories per cupcake, but 20 more per cupcake...hmmm... What did i do wrong? 24 cupcakes = 86 cals per…
  • Congrats on your "INCHES LOSS!" I haven't weighed myself since December 1, 2011. I had a Body Pod analysis done which detailed my body fat and lean muscle percentage. I have another Body Pod analysis scheduled for February 25, next Saturday. I have been on a 3 month journey to lose fat and gain muscle. Of course, actual…
  • Yep, have had my feet in the Atlantic, Pacific and the ARCTIC oceans! Not sure when I will make out to the Indian....
  • We went to Famous Daves bbq for dinner. Calories and sodium...threw the roof! So back on track tmrw!
  • Yep, this happens to me too. Just did 45 mins on the elliptical. My HRM was 100 calories less than the machine, even with entering my age and weight. Because I do high impact cardio classes four times a week (along with strength training), I have to REALLY exert myself to burn calories. The elliptical doesn't know that.
  • It seems there is nothing I can do to prevent it, but a cup of "Smooth Move" tea will cure it! At least for a few days.... Then its time for another cup of tea!
  • Agree with this! He is merely responding to your pursuit. No more. If he was interested in more, he would PURSUE you. HE would call you. Please stop texting him. But I don't agree with calling him either. It's time to let go of him and move on. If you two are truly meant to be together in the future, he will be back in…
