Opposite - the general consensus is that you have a half hour window in which to get in your 'recovery' carbs and protein.which will mean that you recover from the exercise faster and stronger. (It wont impact weight loss either way)

I did a row (15 mins) then the elliptical (30 mins) in the end - it did wonders for the aches I was suffering from.

Great advice and love the honesty. You're not the only one to break your own rules!

Depends on the context.... could mean just about anything!

I think we might be being a bit pedantic here.... The difference between 'Calorie free' and 'virtually calorie free' is pretty insignificant in this context. When I started dieting and I was trying to substitute snacking on 'bad' foods for snacking on 'good' foods, my favourite was slicing cucumber into a bowl, adding just…

My sister is a red head, so kids might show up 'one of them'.... scary ;)

OOOOOOO Wow - great weight loss

"Happy & Healthy" No point in doing one without he other - so all of my lifestyle choices have to balance the two. I only do sports and workouts which I enjoy. I don't miss out on going out or seeing friends in order to train. I only eat food I like, and I'm allowed to treat myself - even to gain weight occasionally. Over…

LOL - This has got me thinking about before and after Porn Vids.... I need to scrub my brain with soap

I wish I hadn't done that porn video.

Good to hear it the weight disappeared again :). Its normal for weight to fluctuate - for example I always weigh more the day after a work out (especially a long run) and it always goes away again the day later - I'm told this is water retention aiding muscle recovery? whatever the reason the behavior is consistent.

Yeah - I think if I was doing 10K's I would opt for minimalist shoes, but I've been advised against them for long distance running - at least until you've had the time to adapt to them fully.

Actually - I just bought some Mizuno wave riders. They work great for me! Before that I had some Nike Luner Eclipses - they are well padded and I havent had any injuries since buying them, but I don't have the same feeling of connection with the ground as I do with the Mizunos... I feel very 'planted' with them - with the…

Fantastic!! well done.

Get fresh bread MEDIUM SLICED : almost all bread is Thick sliced, 110-120 cals. Medium slice is only 80-90 cals a slice and is perfect for all your breaddy needs. Also, you get more slices per loaf. Bargain!

A few things... 1) When you set up your account, what did you set your activity level at? If you set it to anything other than sedentary, then your exercise calories are built into your allowance and you shouldn't eat back your exercise calories. I suggest you set it to sedentary, unless you have a very physical job. This…

Completely agree with the above: Running shoes are just not suitable for cross training. Which is why I cant help you much because my XT shoes are basically my oldest pair of running shoes (I have three pairs at a a time now - ones being broken in, ones which are on their way out and ones which are no longer suitable for…

Hi Tammy - its exactly like Chi Running - but with out the 1:4 ratio of useful information to hippy nonsense! I read Chi Running first but I its very hard to recommend someone reads the whole book when they can get most of the benefit from this post... Its still worth a read though - a few gems in amongst the waffle.

THATS an inch. I have to change my profile.....

Is that really true? I'm not sure that actually walking/running is faster at all levels - however there is a principle which I know DOES apply: It is possible to recover when on the move: If you learn what your natural pace is then you can attack a portion of the race at a higher pace than you can complete the whole thing…

Oh yes, tips: 1) Join a club, running with other people is fun 2) Run outside - even in the cold and wet its nicer (But I don't like running in the dark so its tread mills for me some of the time too) 3) Cross train - The best runners I know are all cyclists too... They will do a long run on Saturday and a long bike ride…

Have a look at this page - follow the links (at the bottom of the article) to the training programs. You have plenty of time so I suggest you try for a 10 K race in June/July then judge if you want to do the beginner or the intermediate program. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_4/144.shtml I started from running 5Ks…

Personally I hate running on a full stomach. My normal routine is to take a clif bar and a glass of water to bed, then set my alarm about 2 hours before my run. I wake up, eat, drink, then go back to sleep for a bit. For the sort of distance you are doing I don't think it matters either way, but if you start doing longer…

I'm told that with a cold...if its in the head, you can run. If its in the chest, you can't. My personal experience, and having watched others, is that running when you are ill can make things a lot worse. Its better to recover properly then ease back into it. No training programme is set in stone - you will need to look…

My two cents (if anyone give a damn) is that if you balance calories over a week you get better results than thinking day by day. This is especially true where you have peaks in training as well as eating as they are not naturally in synch: e.g. I do a long run at the weekends (Marathon training so we are talking up to…

I had two friends who were watching and they had a great time... It really wasn't all that cold (especially when you dress up right). 31C is much harder to run in.. you dehydrate so quickly and the heat is energy sapping! Of course, a happy medium of 15-20 in bright sunshine is nicest. ...yeah - there was quite a lot of…

Getting fit was much more fun than getting thin: different mindset.

Cool... You should run at the next one (justrunning.com wellingborough series).

By the way - this was the second of three events at Irchester - they occur every three weeks. Last time was actually colder but no snow - just hard ground because the earth was frozen. Last time Time: 01:07:23 - so I'm 9 seconds faster in tougher conditions :)
