Exactly, you need to make sure they are correct. I would get awful shin splints until I got the right shoes and stretched before and even better afterwards.

That is what I need to do. I usually have one diet soda a day. I have not had non-diet soda since 1/17/2011.

Most places that are good shoe stores or athletic stores can help you get what you need. Most will offer a diagnosis of what type of shoe you should be wearing. If you don't eat them, they your body will fight back. It will literally start to feast on muscle tissue and slow your metobolic rate down, then you will gain weight. Eat the calories in a good way, or at least get very close to them.

I log most things. If it is something that is say 20-30 calories and I only have that once a day then no, I don't get that detailed. If I do that with 10 things a day, then yes I log it.

Thanks all. It has been hard, but well worth it. I don't get as tired anymore with my kids. Can hardly wait until I can see what another 40 down does for me.

You must stretch before and more importantly after you run. The pain or soreness in your shins are the beginning of shin splints. Get back on it with support and figure out why you fell off. I did the same thing last week and had to work hard to get back into it. I think I am going to even join an Anytime Fitness this weekend.
