I am over 200lbs and run all the time, at least 4 times a week. Start out slow and you will see the benefits. Since I have lost over 50lbs, my knees do not hurt anymore when I jog. Start taking it a little easier and work out your legs more. Calf raises, extensions. Work the tendons in the legs. Stretch, Stretch, Stretch. Pay extra attention to after the run.

I use gloves with wrist straps in them. You should also do light weight excercises to strengthen those muscles.

Getting about 1 mile into a 5k run and just felt so good. I told myself I was going to finish this time with ease. I did.
