I've never gained weight with major jet lag (just recently came back from vacation to Germany). I also used to travel a lot for work. The key is to stay hydrated and eat as healthfully as possible (and stay active). With your work situation you need to keep as much a routine as possible and listen to your body.

I've had great luck with Adidas Climacool for Zumba (I needed to switch from a regular cross trainer Adidas since the floor is really hard)

Depends on the teacher and the mix of students in the class. My teacher is amazing and the class is a mix of men and women of all ages shapes and sizes. 0 judgement and lots of fun!

Zumba on a hard floor is just fine. At my gym we do Zumba in a room with hardwood floors built on top of cement. It's less than ideal but a good pair of sneakers works well. And no, don't do the duct tape trick. That's a way to get injured.

Meh. I prefer Smashburger or Five Guys.

They are missing! I wonder how to make them show up again.

Sugar-free chemical-filled food is not the answer to satisfying cravings, sadly. Everything I've read says that you cannot fool the body by eating something that's got fake sugar in it. Here's some tips from WebMD on how to deal with sweet cravings: http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/13-ways-to-fight-sugar-cravings

Excellent point! You beat me to it.

I've read that taking a walk around the block is the best thing to do when this happens. Also, listen to your cravings and log whatever it is--work it into your day.

You'll be fine. Just do something active every single day. It's a good chance to go for a walk with family members etc.

For me on vacation I usually lose a little or maintain. I just spent 10 days in Germany and ate a ton of amazing food. But each day I was WAY more active than a normal day back home. We walked a ton and went hiking. Every day was very active (and most of our vacations are like this). I'm not sitting behind a desk all day…

Life is too short to not love whichever activity you choose to stay fit. I love hiking, kayaking, riding my ATV, taking classes at the gym (yoga & zumba). I find with the gym classes the awesome teachers make it great! Really anything that gets me outside is my favorite!

We brew our own beer at home (grow our own hops) and also make our own wine and mead. Just log what you drink and work it into your day. Keep in mind that there's areas of the world where people drink on their work breaks and have wine or beer with lunch and dinner. It's just in the culture and many of those countries have…

Nope. It's tasty on roasted potatoes and also when cooking beans. :) As for other uses it's good on sunburn, zits, and any minor skin condition!

Mostly water weight. There's no way you ate 3,500 calories per pound x 10 pounds = 35,000 calories over maintenance (in 4 days). :)

Not all hospital food is bad. I was in two hospitals this past fall and both had good food. One in NH even had a nice menu you could order from.

Hi there! Since you work a desk job (as do I) you are actually considered sedentary. I'm active as well (zumba, yoga, hiking...) but it's what I'm doing the other hours of the day that makes up this classification. If you were working on your feet as a server in a restaurant or in a factory that would count as active.…

The Arc trainer is always wayyyy more difficult than an elliptical. I don't think the machines are as common (my gym has them). It's not even a workout in the MFP log the last time I checked. There's a reason the Arc trainers always have a sweat spray on the floor from people using them. I think even the most basic level…

Yeah, me too--lake side. That's my problem. Put me near water and I eat and drink everything. I bring healthy food up to Maine and end up eating a ton of stuff everyone shows up at my house with. The "water makes me hungry" thing is real. Good luck--I would say get a walk or hike in prior to sitting by the water with a…

Yeah, I'm not nor will I ever be a runner so I hear you on that. My hips and spine are uneven so I had to find sports that worked for me. You need to find something that you love doing. It could be hiking, martial arts, or playing tourist in an area that you have not yet explored (pick some place different each weekend).…

The weekend is a great time to walk on the beach, go for a walk with a friend, hit some hiking trails. I feel that if I'm indoors at the gym on the weekend that I'm missing out on some sort of outdoor thing that I can't do during the week while at work. I can hit the gym during the week but I never have time for a hike. On…

Dogfish for the win! I love that they serve that on Amtrak. Makes 4 hours on a train way less painful. :)

I'm away 2-3 weekends per month and we do things we would not normally do during the week. Happy hour is a BIG problem. I want to eat everything that's not nailed down while out on a beautiful deck or on someone's boat. Or after a day spent hiking. I'm super active on weekends and I don't even bother to log. It's a…

First I was making a joke about the alley. Quality over quantity when it comes to beer. The local brew is going to cost more but you get more bang for your buck and less calories. You don't see people chugging really powerful beer. :)
-
Yeah, I was doing this for a while too but it has to stop (for me personally) I was going nuts on weekends (often we were away). I need to stay level through the weekends to continue to see improvement.
-
Yes, 18 beers of craft beer (high alcohol content) and you would still be passed out in an alley. Beer is an important part of my life (we make our own at home and I volunteer at local beer fests that raise money for charity. It all depends on type of beer and how much on a weekend. 18 is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more than…

Guinness has less calories than lite beer anyway. :)

weekends are the biggest reason why I did not maintain in the past and I'm back up in weight again. I'm more active on the weekends so I would load up on food, drinks and appetizers. I was on a losing streak since December but weekends are my biggest downfall. This past weekend it was good to be back on track. I'm away…
