Agreed! It's all about getting yourself moving and having fun! Just pay attention to your body. If doing one thing causes pain (and not the good kind) then don't do it. I love running by the way. Once I invested in a good pair of shoes I haven't had any issues with my joints.

I'm 128 lbs down in a little more than a year. I never joined a gym. My main calorie burner? Walking. Granted, I live in a very hilly area. I'm sure that helped.
