  • I pay attention to total calories eaten and do look at the breakdown of nutrients. Because I had a heart attack I do pay attention to saturated and trans fat and try to limit those...and diagnosed with osteoporosis and doctor wants me to get more (most) of my calcium from my diet. As for sugar in fruit, I could care less.…
  • Agree with this statement 100%. "The key in losing weight, and take this from someone who has lost over 192 pounds, is to make small, SUSTAINABLE changes. this is a long term effort. not a sprint. you will not lose weight fast. you will not lose weight every week. you will have weeks on end with NO weight loss. its normal.…
  • @mtaratoot I'm not that confident on the calorie burn reported by my Garmin and that's OK. Over the years on maintenance I kind of know how much to eat (at 5'7" and also 71) I set my calories at 2,000. I'm actually very active with dog walking, working out, walking around, yoga, Zumba, strength work....get around 20,000…
  • It is a game changer. Cut it out during the week while I was losing and only a little on the weekends. Now keep it moderate for health reasons.
  • Have been in touch with one of the MFP admins and she started a conversation in the message boards under the Introduce Yourself topic. Check out Welcome former SparkPeople Members!
  • Great conversation. I just posted so my friends can see it. Hope others share this.
  • Former SP (martha324) who's been on MFP for years and so happy to see my Spark friends joining in!
  • I don't think the level of reaction to the vaccine has anything to do with your immunity. Know I read that somewhere. Seems like older people had less of a reaction to the vaccine (and more to Covid) while last spring younger people pre -Delta had more of a reaction to the vaccines and less to Covid. Now the advice is to…
  • Generally Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday w/Thursday my office "weigh in" day. Keep the weight comparison for one year so I can see the trend.
  • Joining here is a GREAT start!. From my experience tracking your food really works and MFP makes it easy. Making small sustainable changes really helps too...you start small and as these small changes become habits, you can add more. You can do it!!!
  • I had something similar. when I got to 162 which was my goal I started upping the calories and also upped the exercise and continued to lose. since the weight loss was slow and still within the normal BMI I figured to just let me body tell me when to stop losing weight. Our the next 6 months I lost around 15 more lbs and…
  • Not sure I agree with all that Lee wrote and that's just fine - do your research. I do agree with him that small sustainable changes work. If having a small helping of potatoes helps you stay on track that's fine.
  • That sounds about right if you are losing 1 lb/week. When I started I set my calorie goal higher (heavier than you and I knew how many calories I had been eating). What makes sense to me is if the calorie goal is letting you get all the nutrients you need, you aren't hungry, & you're losing weight. If you up the exercise…
  • As others have said the key is you came back. When I started in 2011 I didn't have as much to lose but realized that I had to start. I finally accepted that I had to make changes that would stick for life so I started small. Made only one or two small changes each week and as those became a habit I added more. It took over…
  • I doubt you can change it. You can send an email with your question to the tech team and eventually you'll get a response. That feature drives me nuts and I just ignore it.
  • Thanks! will have to bookmark this. BTW, Spark360 has a lot of Spark recipes.
  • Not just soda but when I started I started small. For instance I stopped buying lunch at the cafe at work and instead brought a sandwich and bought reduced fat chips. Cut calories by at least 300 for that one meal. I did cut out the wine during the week.

  • I wondered about that. Long time member of MFP and recently getting friend requests from guys that I don't know and then got some creepy emails. Unfriended them and now ask how I know a person before I friend them.
  • sijomial. "There is a theme in my responses isn't there? :) Experiment, experiment, experiment - maintenance needs to be personalised and you have all the time in the world to try different things. Preferably change one variable at a time." Couldn't agree more. Personally I find that when I eat a high fiber diet I stay…
  • Welcome & just sent you a friend request. My spark name was martha324
  • I've had good luck with https://www.cookinglight.com. think you can save recipes there although you probably have to sign up & there might be a fee now....so many previously free sites are charging now. You can save recipes here and you can create recipes as well.
  • Not quite the same as you, but when I'd lost about 40 lbs (with at least 40 to go) and had been walking every day I broke my ankle and had to be off it for at least 4 weeks. I really couldn't exercise at all & was determined to not gain back any weight. I made sure that my calories were a little lower than I'd been eating…
  • What a great start and as often happens in the beginning the weight seems to just fall off. it may slow down and don't be surprised or annoyed...it happens. If you think about this journey as a lifetime trip and make small sustainable changes you'll improve you health and lose weight. It may take time and that's OK. Keep…
  • You are a real inspiration and remind everyone - no matter where on the journey that it can be done. Kudos to you and thanks for sharing your story.
  • Staying right on target at 142. The struggle this week yet again is the heat....get out earlier to walk and use the gym is the success.
  • What is the struggle? doing too much, too little? Are you getting a rest day at least once/week? If you can afford it, you might want to schedule a couple of sessions with a personal trainer. Also completely unscientific, but your body is probably adjusting and you'll settle in at a comfortable weight.
  • That is awesome and inspirational. You are so right about eating a healthy diet...makes all the difference in the world. Very impressed that you used the pandemic to make such a positive change in your life. Look forward to hearing more about your journey and successes!

  • I always had bigger hips & thighs - even as a kid when I was on the thin side. When I lost weight I lost pretty evenly except those hips and thighs. After losing about 60 lbs I started in on cardiac rehab and added real cardio plus strength. I not only kept losing another 25-30 lbs but my whole body shape changed. Lost the…
  • I too got asked a lot "what did you do?????" (I've lost about 85 lbs & kept it off over 8 years). My answer was that I choose to eat healthy most of the time, tracked my food & paid attention to staying within my range, and exercised every day. That wasn't sexy or easy enough I guess. I even got certified as a health coach…
