30 year old dude and dad. I work on my feet quite a bit (i'm a CNA) so i count that in my TDEE and use my iPhone 6 as a fitbit to count my steps. I shoot for 10,000 a day every single day. I have a spectrum of calories that i allow myself depending on day and activity level. On days i work its 1800-2000 and on days off its…

Your maintenance is only 1783? That seems low. Are you sedentary? What she said above me, you need to lift weights and work out to get ab definition. Losing fat doesn't always do it. Some people get ridiculously scrawny and never see their abs

My coworkers did this and complained how they felt "like crap" and "had headaches all the time" but acted like i was crazy when i suggested calorie counting and fitness pal saying "i don't think that would work. You can't just eat whatever you want. Everybody knows that" I eat whatever i want and in a short period of time…

Once every few days. I think weighing every single day is just plain nutty

Oh boy. This is gonna be fun. First of all, congrats on the weight lost so far! Secondly, and it's really hard to say this without having some kind of tone, so just take it for what it is. There is no way you are going to gain weight by eating less. How would that even happen? Fat is just created from nowhere? Maybe you…

Discovering fitness pal was such a shocking experience for me. I genuinely felt like the entire world was hiding some very important information from me just so they could get rich. Why isn't it all over tv while the news and tv specials are talking about obesity how easy it can be to lose it? All I ever hear are "abc…

I know right? That's what always got to me. I always saw these really obese people that just gave up saying "I tried everything and nothing worked". I remember thinking "oh ****. They tried EVERYTHING? I'm screwed. May as well give up too" They tried everything but calorie counting apparently. Fad diets don't count. There…

This is turning into the most frustrating and controversial thing I've ever posted about. Can we get a mathematician in here?
-
I did math that way too, but it was by accident on my part. Not thinking ahead like you are about how many cups actually pop and whatnot. But if we go on the safe side just to have our bases covered, then a serving size is 4 cups popped. 1 cup popped is 35 calories so per serving so that would be 140 per serving right? And…
-
I tried to do the math and i got 420 calories for a bag. Is that right? So far nobody has actually answered lol

Ya damn right. I have all kinds of stuff planned! I day dream about it almost everyday and that's why I'm able to stay on track. I think about going on trips and doing things as a skinnier less self conscious me. I think about seeing people I haven't seen in a long time and see their reaction to how I now look. I think…

This question comes up sometimes and it's a bit idiotic. Cheat day? You probably mean cheat MEAL, so we will go with that. Because on thanksgiving I'm not going to run around with my food scale weighing every little thing I put into mouth. Because there are occasions where it makes sense to not count. I think you're so…
-
Every 5 lbs I lose I have a cheat meal. Meal! Not day

I don't really want anyone to comment on my weight loss

I bet he gets all the ladies. Bow chicka bowbow
-
I did in the very beginning. Didn't take long before I realized "ok this is stupid. I'm logging zero calories. What am I gonna log next. How much air I breathe?" Don't bother logging it
-
I'm sorry, but all I got from that was that you're telling me to go out and eat twinkies?
-
It is my journey, but I also respect your opinion. Just by going off your posts and pics alone, I know you know what you're talking about. So I take what you say seriously man. I only said 1500 for completely sedentary days. Otherwise, 1800-1900 obviously. Are you saying I should keep the same calories on lazy days?
-
Ok. So I'm trying something out and conducting this little experiment over the next month to see if my body agrees with it. Throwing this out there as a reference to anybody else in my situation I've done a ton of reading about bmr, tdee, calorie counting accuracy and fitbit calorie burn accuracy and have come up with this.…

Aye aye captain!

So. I'm getting a lot of different responses that completely contradict each other! Some say to just go down to 1500. Others say no,that's way too low for a guy my size and to keep eating what I'm eating right now and wait a few weeks. Others are saying to switch to the new fitness pal number it gave me. Ahhhhhh I think…

You need help

I'm searching amazon right now for a food scale. I think when I start weighing things, I'm gonna be shocked how many extra calories I've been putting in my body that haven't been logged. What about the pre packaged meals though? I eat a lot of those Marie calender's meals. Those would be hard to figure out myself wouldn't…

This post really hit home for me. I've been stressing so much over losing this damn weight that even 1900 sounded like a lot to me and the second I don't see the results I want, I get upset. I yell at the scale and spend the entire day trying to figure out what I did wrong and I'm a little afraid if I keep going like this,…
-
Oh wow. I feel a little naive for not knowing, but I had no idea pre packaged foods could be off by so much. I just figured some food association or whatever probably routinely measured their food to make sure the calories they state are accurate. Ever since I read your post, I've been googling and found this:…

Well that's interesting. My fitness pal gave me 1910 cals a day to eat up until now, and now I just clicked "update profile" and now it says 1780. Whaaaat? Oh fitness pal. Have you been keeping things from me? I thought we had an open relationship where we could talk about things. Are you trying to keep me fat so I'll…
-
Fitness pal gave me a goal of 1800 cals a day assuming I'm lightly active. And like my above post, the tdee calculators say I should be burning a solid 2900ish cals a day. So if for the past two weeks I'm burning thousands of calories, how could my weight stay the same? The fat would have disappeared wouldn't it? And it's…

Yep. Been using the fitbit the whole time. I was actually down to 222 just a few months ago and recently gained back the 10 lbs and a big reason I got down to 222 in the first place was cause I always used my fitbit so much. Just seems odd that out of nowhere 2000 calories wouldn't work for me. Out of nowhere I've just…

Yes actually! There was a documentary online that talked about the science behind weight loss and how at some point, our bodies are programmed to favor a certain weight. People that have been skinny all their lives are fine, but those that have gained weight and kept it on for along time have a certain weight that their…

???? I totally had this for the past decade. Can't believe I lived so long doing what I did. Wonder how common this is among men
