  • The earth was made on purpose for people to live on. Eating more or less meat will not change the fact that this is where we live. We're supposed to eat some protein, some fat and some carbs as well. Eat too much and you know what happens. Not enough to eat and you starve. Eating meat is a choice. I don't try to convince…
  • Good stuff, man. I started at 335 and am down to 295 over a year. This year my goal is to take off 50 more.
  • 2.5 to 3 mph. Keep in mind that I'm walking where I don't have to dodge people, bikes and cars. I know my routes and I do also check my bearings from time to time. With an e-reader, it's pretty easy to keep track of your surroundings. I don't recommend it with a book.
  • I do like the Rocher candies. Maybe right out of the jar is just too intense.

  • Yup. I read when I walk. It's a habit I picked up in the Air Force when I needed to stay awake to study. It's hard to fall asleep when you're walking:) It's not for everyone but, there are folks who don't like Tabasco or bacon, too. Rules: Don't read and walk in parking lots. Crowded shopping areas are not a good choice.…
  • Breakfast for dinner is a real easy way to keep it under 600 calories. One of my faves. Egg substitutes are only 25 calories per serving, so a 4 "egg" veggie omelet is under 200 cals. Add some cheese to get it up to 300. Bacon is about 40 calories per slice, 3 slices gets you to 420. A bowl of grits on the side is about…
  • Cool. Thanks foe the clarification.
  • I can relate. My wife makes these Cowboy Enchiladas, she uses flour tortillas instead of corn. All of the ingredients are available in the database so it's pretty easy, once you get the hang of it. Anyway, I break it down as best I can and estimate it like this: Flour tortillas have about 130 calories and there are also…
  • I wear the same stuff a lot. I mostly work in jeans, they seem to be more forgiving than trousers, which seem to fall off if I lose 10 lbs. My jeans seem to hang in there longer. I've donated a big pile of 3X shirts and will donate more. I'm solid into a 2X now so, I won't be buying 3X ever again! I've been in size 44…
  • I always leave some room in the calorie budget for a late snack. My fave is non-fat yogurt as a base, because of the protein. If I feel in a savory mood, I'll add to some hot cereal with salt pepper and spices. If I want sweet, in go the sliced peaches and cold cereal. Either way, it's about 250 calories.
  • This year I want to lose 50, minimum. My original goal was to lose 115 lbs. Start weight was 335, March 2014; currently at 299. I lost a net of 30 last year, because I lost 40 and gained back 10. If I lose 50 lbs this year, I can re-evaluate. One thing I don't want to do is yo-yo. I'm done with that!
  • From my own experience, cutting carbs is a good way to manage calories. Starches have lots of carbs and not much else. Nonetheless, I do enjoy them, especially oatmeal, grits and good bread. I don't care much for white bread and I've learned that hot cereal made as a savory rather than a sweet is more satisfying. I don't…
  • I had gone for my annual physical and the blood work came back excellent in all areas. However, my weight was 335. I just decided right then and there that enough was enough. I already knew most of the weight loss stuff from previous failed attempts. But, MFP is the key. I asked the doc for an appetite suppressant so I…
  • If I'm 1000 calories over on day 1 and then I'm back on track for days 2 through 7, I've still posted a net loss for the week. I may not be down 1 lb, perhaps only .5. No worries. I'll still be down for the month and the year. I'm trying to lose 50 lbs for the year and there will be both good and bad cycles between now and…
  • Walking. At lunch time I walk. I park at the far end of the parking lot. I walk the dog. I climb the stairs. I dropped 40 lbs last year and want to drop 50 this year. Walk.
  • Good stuff man! I've dropped about 40 myself since I started in March. Makes a huge difference! I'm still a 2XLT and cannot believe the difference.
  • 1/2 cup Ranch Style Beans 3 oz beef 3 tortillas Ya know, you can actually live off of Ranch Style Beans.

  • Man, that's way too much oil for pancakes. If you have to add that much fat, whether it's butter, EVOO, coconut oil or good ole Crisco does not matter. I'm also a pancake lover and I use an old non-stick griddle. I just put drop of oil on the griddle, wipe it over the whole griddle surface with a paper towel and cook away.…
  • Well done.
  • I put on a brand new pair of khakis this morning. I get to work and my friend (always supportive and encouraging) says, "You could have bough those a size smaller." How cool is that?
  • A great sandwich trick is to use plain nonfat yogurt instead of mayo or other sandwich spread. Sometimes, you don't even need cheese on the sandwich.
  • Typically I bring some leftover dinner for my lunch. Today, the snack is watermelon! Delicious but, sadly, this is probably the last watermelon of the season. I also like cheese sticks, pretzels and Maria biscuits. You can find them in the cookie aisle or, the Mexican or international foods section. They are kind of like…
  • I'm a middle-aged, white man and I know that this post, this opinion, will sound harsh. It may well be that you have a medical condition whereby you cannot lose weight unless drastic surgical means are taken. However, from what I read of your profile, that does not apply therefore, I cannot support your choice. According…
  • OP, you might try cutting back on starches and watching sugars as opposed to cutting carbs. As has been stated here, carbs are not inherently evil and will not make you into a bad man. In my experience, cutting back on starches has been beneficial. What I mean is that I make a choice: Mashers or bread? Rice or tortillas?…
  • Been on the plateau for the last 3 weeks but, I've dropped 40 so far, about 1/3 of the way there. OP lookin great! Gotta love MFP.
  • Two NSV this week: 1. My wife told me how much she likes being able to put her arms around me again 2. Senior manager at my company mentioned that he could see how much I was losing
  • OK, this is a man answer: And, you care what they think, because? Look, you'e the one who dropped 40 lbs, not the moron who yelled at you. Why do you care what he says does or thinks? You gonna change his attitude and force him to make nice? Don't think so. You just keep on truckin. As the great philosopher Ron White once…
