I have a sign at home that says, "With enough coffee, I could rule the world!" It's my preferred drink, right upthere next to water. In fact, I go for weeks drinking nothing but water, coffee and the occasional cup of tea; on average up to 3 quarts (total) per day. I average one soda per month, if that. Coffee must be…

Ya, I've had about 40 lbs worth of success with walking. Cool thing is that I've kept the extra weight off for well over a year. Average steps for January was just over 9500 per day. We'll see how February goes. Tying to lose again this year so really trying to limit extra calories.

I'm in.

Save your money. Try MFP first. I've dropped 40lbs. You can too.

Good stuff. Keep it up.

Hi Scott, Welcome to MFP. PERSISTENCE is the key. I'm sending you an invite.

Hello Trey. Welcome.

I just looked at my fit bit awards and, since Father's day, when my kids gave it to me, I've walked over 500 miles! That's like walking from Dallas to San Antonio and back. I figure that's roughly 50,000 calories.

Hello to All: I did something night before last that I have not in over 15 years. All the way back to last century! I bought a new pair of jeans and did not spend $3 more than anyone else. Why? Because I bought size 42 jeans and they are not considered part of the extended sizes! I actually bought a (nearly) normal sized…

It all depends open how high you can stack the meat! :D Seriously, it's a good plan. I always load up on veg and protein and back down on the sugars and starches.

I've been using a fitness tracker for the past couple of months, the Samsung S-Health, its part of my phone. I've found that it's cool to have daily goal of getting my 10,000 steps. Unfortunately, no one seems that pleased about it. On the other hand, my MFP friends think it's great and, they offer lot's of encouragement.…

It has to taste good if I'm going to eat it. That's my main rule. I've cut back on starches and sugars, too. I've found that almost anything labeled diet tastes like crap so I leave it alone, for the most part. Reduced fat mozzarella is ok, so is low fat milk. For me, it's about choices. Is rather enjoy a nice steak and…

Just took the dog for another walk. I don't know if he or I enjoys it more!

Hit a personal best yesterday, over 14,000 steps! TDEE for the day was 1700+ I think and hope that I'm going to see some real results in the next week or so. I'd like to get my daily average up to around 12,000 steps. It gives me something besides weight to track! If the scale won't budge, I can always walk a little more.

Oatmeal is one of my faves, lots of food value for small price. Ground turkey instead of hamburger or, buy hamburger in bulk then divide into 14 oz packs for freezing instead of 16 oz packs. The recipe doesn't know that you've used 2 oz less hamburger and neither will your family. Also, I see hamburger for $5 per lb and…

May I make a distinction between carb sources? I divide them into three groups: Starches - potatoes, grains and the like Vegetables - green beans, broccoli, greens, etc. Fruits - apples, grapes, oranges... I find that controlling starches is an easy way to keep my calories in check. I also think I have a correlation…

I started off a year ago with some weight loss pills which were prescribed by my doctor. I took them for about two weeks, just as a kick start. I'm still here a year later. They're OK for a short time, I think. Don't make them a foundation of your program or you will not win. The goal here is to learn when and how to eat…

This morning for breakfast I had scramble made with cut green beans, a hot dog, egg beaters, salt, pepper and shredded mozzarella cheese.

OK, this post is not for the orthodox oatmeal-and-something-sweet folks. I'm an oatmeal lover, too. But, sometimes savory is better than sweet! (Collective gasp from the audience!) I prefer rolled oats to oatmeal; I like the coarse texture. Try: Cottage cheese and seasoned salt Baked potato style - bacon bits, butter, sour…

These are very cool! I especially like the idea of standing desk, and the crickets. Of course, the wizardry from bulbadoof, is the best! :) I have two more to add: I made my business calls today from my cell phone while I walked the hallways at my office. It was pretty cool. I also do a core tightening exercise all the…

Update, one year later. Well, its been a year and I'm still here! I've dropped 40 lbs from the starting weight of 335, I'm now 295 and loving it. It's been an interesting year, I went on vacation in July and managed to lose a lb or two, plateaus in October and hurt my back in December. Fortunately, the back is back, so to…

Good tips! I think making the small changes and allowing time for them to work leads to the big results that we're looking for.
