  • I started last Sunday with pretty strict diet and kept a good amount of exercise. I did well for the first 5 days and then yesterday I fell off the wagon, bad! I ate fast food, chocolate, you name it. However, I hit the gym even harder and made up for my sins :) I know it wasn't the healthiest last 48 hours but I managed…
  • Best of Luck! By the way, the Fitness test is a good way to periodically see if your fitness leve is getting better or worse. Nice tool to use every month or so.
  • This is common during prolonged weight bearing exercise. It is not dangerous or anything. It is caused by prolonged pressure (standing, weight bearing exercise) on a small surface area (i.e your feet). Sometimes I have had clients that it gets so bad, they stop doing that particular exercise that causes it. For most people…
  • The F6 has the hard plastic strap. The F11 has the (changeable battery) softer fabric strap. The F11 also has a few more features like Keep-U-Fit programs and Fitness Test along with a few others. The F6 is a very good watch and good value for your money.
  • That is true. The watch battery has to be replaced by polar. The batteries typically last 2-3 years. Keep in mind, that depending where you buy it, they may have old inventory.
  • The F11 comes with the better strap that you can replace the battery yourself. And, if does count calories however you would like. If you leave it on all day, it will keep a running cal burn rate based on age, sex, weight, heart rate, etc. I think it has everything you are looking for.
  • Fat does not and cannot turn into muscle. That is a common myth. The truth is it is extremely hard to build lean muscle mass. In fact, in my profession, I used to have customers say to me all of the time, "I don't want to get big" "I don't want to do the stairmaster bc my butt will get big", etc. The fact is, even if you…
  • Ok, got my answer, sorry. Clicking or squeaking is caused by one of two things; 1. A bearing that is not broken in (which normal and ok) 2. A resistance adjustment or flywheel adjustment (requires service tech) A couple of general tid-bits: 1. There are four levels of exercise equipment on the market. #1- entry-level, big…
  • What elliptical do you have? I work in the industry, I can def help!
  • I have AS (ankylosing spondolititis) which is a form of arthritis in the rheumatoid family. I have attended lectures about living with the disease and most say that it is important to continue to exercise but limit impact activities or heavy weight bearing activities. They can cause flare ups and discomfort. I have had…
  • Great idea!
  • Let me clarify my last post. I didn't mean to say strapless is a total waste. I would say it is a good reference for your workouts BUT if you are looking for accurate calorie burn and exertion levels, it helps to be as precise as possible. And, with the strap, if you belong to a gym or have equipment of your own, it is…
  • I would recommend the Polar F11, it retails for $179.99. It comes with the most comfortable strap on the market. It is the wearlink31. It is made of a fabric material instead of hard plastic. If you are getting a HR monitor, DO NOT get one without a strap. It would be a complete waste of time and money. Strapless monitors…
  • I have had great success with personal trainers and was once involved in personal training myself. It really depends on who, just like anything else. I have seen pretty bad ones and pretty good ones. In general, I would recommend getting a trainer because it holds you more accountable. Pychologically it is much harder to…
  • Elliptical machine is the way to go! Low impact, high calorie burn, and quiet. That might be a bit much for what you are looking for, but this is my area of expertise. If you need more help than that, I can definately point you in the right direction. I personally own an elliptical and home gym. There is nothing better on…
  • This website might be too much info, but it gives you the most accurate calorie count I have ever seen. It is a bodybuilding website but it has a lot of useful info. Go to link below and fill out your weight, duration of workout, and it will give you cal count. Good Luck! http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/calories.htm
  • Depending on your weight and body composition I would say in the range of 400-750 in 45 minutes. Bosu classes are really good exercise that use a lot of muscle groups. Good luck!
  • I can totally empathize...It's funny how your mind plays tricks on you when it comes to food and self-image? I get into traps when I start to rationalize why I should be able to eat whatever I want because I EARNED IT. Logically, I know it is a load of crap, but when that emotional brain takes over, it's hard too…
  • Viviakay is correct. The idea is to maintain a healthy deficit of (-500 to -1,000) calories per day depending on the original size of the person. You have to be careful about having too low of a deficit, especially if you are working out, because your body will go into "starvation" mode and start to breakdown down muscle…
  • Congrats! You should be very proud. Keep up the good work.
  • Fellow pals, if anyone likes to read, I would like to recommend "Stop Gaining Weight" by Dr. Laura Pawlak. I went to her seminar about 2 years ago and it isn't a very well know book but it is the best "diet, food, brain, attitude, physiological" book I have ever read. She uses her basis in medical fact, however, it is a…
  • One of the variables may have been messed up?? Sorry. Anyway, a general rule regardless of size, age, etc is that anything less than 1,200 calories per day is considered calorie deprivation. For normal basic function, most people need atleast 1,200. Good luck!
  • If you go to the "Tools" tab on this website and calculate your BMR, that will tell you how many calories you need daily to maintain based on your weight, height, activity level, etc. Take that number and subtract 500cal/day if you want to lose one pound per week and so on. Hope that helps!
  • Swimming is one of the best cardio workouts, yes! Here is the deal with cardio workouts. Some people measure their effectiveness in terms of calories burned per minute, some measure by exertion or heart rate levels. Swimming is great for the following reasons; 1. Non Weight Bearing (reduces risk of injury) 2. Multiple…
  • It means that you will get $700 per week BUT you if you don't earn the $700 in base + commission, you will owe the money back. What is the base salary? Most of the commercial sales reps I hire are on a "draw" basis, so I am very familiar with it. The info you need to know is; base salary, commission %, and when do you…
  • Generally it is ok to go over as long as it isn't excessive. Meaning, 100 grams or something like that. Even then, you will just be extremely backed up if you know what I mean. If you eat fiber at a healthy range it helps with digestion, but too much can actually have the reverse effect short term, until it works it way…
  • I have let myself get 60 pounds overweight over the past 6 or 7 years. I used to be in terrific shape and what is even more pathetic I still work in the fitness industry. I know more about weight loss, exercise, dieting, etc than I know what to do with and I can't seem to follow my own advice. I am a recent father of a…
