  • Ok, update on this to complete the thread. It seems as though my initial battery, installed at the bike shop (brand new) was dead. I installed another battery on my own and for some reason that one was also dead. I have installed a third battery and tested it with a battery tester to make sure it was good and the sensor…
  • Nope, still can't get it to pair. Any other thoughts? Is it possible to sensor is no good/defective?
  • Do you mean to turn the bike upside down, and then spin the pedal while its upside down?
  • I'll check that tonight and make sure it has a battery. Not sure if there's a light or not so I'll check that too.
  • All great advice folks thanks! I did 55 miles on Saturday and things were much better. I made sure to sit up lots and stretch my arms while riding. I paid attention to my position and as others mentioned I tend to shrug my shoulders up to my ears when I'm working hard. Just being concious of it helped a lot. I have an…
  • Thanks for the feedback. I've got a long ride planned tomorrow so I'll try to relax a bit more and see how it works.
  • Just thought of one other thing. I did a transition run after my long bike. Something I realized very quickly was that my fuelling must have been off on the bike. I'm not sure how to practice fuelling besides doing a few longer runs off the bike? I'm never sure how many calories to take in during the bike besides trial and…
  • Ok, thanks. Right now I do a long bike Saturday and long run Sunday. I think I'll start running for 20-30 min after my long bike Saturday. Then I should still be able to do my long run Sunday. I may try a longer brick once or twice for my mental prep. If I do that it will replace a medium distance run and I'll move my long…
  • All good advice. Thanks to all of you! Mental toughness is one of the things I need to work on. It's always tough when you are doing a distance you haven't done before I think. I'll keep moving forward, my race is July 11 so I'll stick with my plan and trust that it will get me there.
  • Ok, good advice. Thanks folks. What about doing one or two of those longer bricks for the mental benefit? Given this is a new distance for me I'm stuggling a bit to trust my training and 'know' that I can go the full distance come race day.
  • Sorry DangerJim been out of the country and missed your post. For my swimming I do three times a week right now. I may add one swim in May but right now its just 3 times. All three swims right now are in the pool because I live in Canada. One swim is endurance, then one swim is intervals and one swim is technique based.…
  • I am using the Trinewbies Half Ironman just like DangerJim. That being said I study other plans as well and modify things to suit my schedule and strengths/weaknesses. For example, I'm a weak swimmer so I try to spend more time swimming. I try as much as I can to stick to the plan but do make changes when I need to.
  • In term of shoes, I've worn the same model for the past 5 pairs and I've never had issues. I do track my mileage in these shoes and they should be good for another few months. I also foam roll on a regular basis and find it really helps me. I should also mention I live in a rural/northern community so the nearest…
  • I used to breath only to one side. This year I decided one of my off season goals is to tech myself to breath bilaterally. So far so good, I'm finding my stroke a lot more balanced. I'm a little slower but I'm hoping with practice that will improve. It is nice to have when your dealing with other swimmers and waves in the…
  • I second what daj150 says above - Just tough it out. Last year was my first year with trainer and I hated every minute of it. This year is not so bad. I just watch some kind of action movie on Netflix and that keeps me going. It all pays off in the spring when you can get back on the road!
  • Hoping for my first half iron this year as well. Completed two years of sprint tris so far and loving it.
  • Thanks for the advice. That will be my plan. Cheers!
  • Update: A week later at weigh in I was back down to normal range. As most of you said must have just been water retentiion. Thanks for the feedback and comments!
  • Ok, thanks everyone, I"ll give it a week and see. My clothes are fitting the same so hopefully its just the water. Still getting used to this maintaining thing and I tend to get a little paranoid. I'll keep you posted!
