  • I need to eat fairly light/healthy-ish all day before a strenuous workout and stop eating a good 3-4 hours before, but key for me is drinking plenty of water (which I don’t enjoy). If I eat too much/too many carbs in the afternoon my workouts suffer (and I sometimes will get heartburn or nausea; side stitch when running).…
  • Yoga- seriously worth a shot. Worked for me :-)
  • YUP! Popcorn is my fave! But I try to pop it on the stove/old school with some avocado oil and/or a smidge of coconut oil :-) Once in awhile i buy some fancy stuff in a bag, but prefer it fresh.

  • seems like an easy summer read :-) I am downloading from Hoopla/my library.
  • 2 faves from Trader Joes: candy cane green tea (I stock up each winter so I have enough for summer iced tea, too!) and now the new watermelon mint black tea- YUMMM! I used to only buy Harney & Sons, but these are great, too, if you like flavored teas. I cannot do herbal "teas" :-( I must stock up on the watermelon one now,…
  • I was extremely successful- by using MFP! I exercised (light to moderate: walking, mainly at first) at least 3 days a week (so nothing tragic here except that I HATED it at first!). It takes time, but when I had my next phyical 12 months later, my doc said I was TEXT BOOK (LDL, HDL, ratio, and liver enzymes all were…
  • I would also suggest seeing a doctor today!! Urgent care if your regular dr can't see you. This could be a big deal, or maybe not, but you need to make sure! If you think it's just overuse, that's one thing, but otherwise your description sounds urgent to me. Can you not walk at all for more than 5 minutes?? Or just not on…
  • Yoga does not burn very many calories, either, sadly. It certainly feels like it does, though!
  • Old school... sound of voice on the phone. The sideburn tan lines that you only see after a haircut in the summer.
  • I agree w Firecat, speaking as a member of the B group! I think you stomach is actually awesome, and would love if mine looked half as good  But I see the area you are unhappy about... Did you have it as a child? Maybe a congenital thing? Or possibly a hernia or something else you may not even know you have.
  • There is only one sentence I see posted... but hoping you like it here- welcome to MFP
  • Not my quote, and paraphrasing bc I am at work and shouldn't be on here  : Being overweight is hard. Being healthy is hard. Choose your hard.
  • 1/4 c onion, 1tsp cumin, 1/2 tsp each garlic powder & onion powder, s&p. (I use real garlic though) for my fave recipe!
  • Yup- roasted for the win!! Also- if you like eggs, it’s a super easy way to add a few more vegetables in to make a scramble or frittata. I also hate chopping them (had carpal tunnel release surgery several years ago, but my dominant hand was left a bit weaker, so it’s harder to chop hard stuff... so I try to use a food…
  • In to add: it’s very easy (too easy!) to overestimate your calories burned. Many people are most successful when only eating back half of those. What method are you using to calculate (MFP? tracking device- make sure your stats are correct on the app; etc.) Are you eating exercise calls back? How many are you eating back?…

  • Just downloaded Workoutdoors (to use witj Applewatch's GPS/download maps to the watch). It's a bit robust for casual users, but I can get lost in a paper bag, so hoping this may help w/hiking/runs/walks in new areas! And Nike Run Club is fun, too.
  • Also prefer strength, but do both and yoga  -)
  • I mix it up, but today: 4 oz egg whites -> ran out of whole eggs :-( 3 slices of Applegate Farms ham TJ's habanero lime tortilla ... and a banana
  • salmon & broccoli... not my favorite meal, and I probably only eat it a few times a month, but always filling.
  • You should check out the Adopt a Noobs: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10619586/2018-adopt-a-noob-discussion  I'm 5'3", 174, but I'm not aiming for a specific weight just yet, so I'm afraid I can't commit BUT good luck & welcome to MFP!! If you haven't already, read the "stickies" for LOTS of…
  • I learned to cook simpler meals, honestly. I still make casseroles, lasagna, etc. but focus on simple things that taste good/higher quality food. (This took me a long time to get to from eating frozen meals/fast food/eating with abandon!) Importing URLs does make it faster, but you still need to double-check the entries),…
  • DO not take iodine supplements or thyroid supplements! You shouldn't mess with these things.
  • Echoing others: Dr appointment/bloodwork. Note: my dr said my results were perfect- no anemia, no thyroid issues, etc. but I don't think she tested for all vitamin/mineral definiciencies (likely bc she tried to tell me your hair changes as you age. I pretended i couldn't hear her (I'm older than you!). Try Viviscal, it a…
  • DM- omg- you have gorgeous eyes!! But you don’t really need a pre-workout (what type of workouts are you doing?),but I like Quest unflavored protein powder (easy to use for protein waffles, too). No sugar, so it tastes great to me when I make a smoothie with fruit, otherwise need to add sweetener for drinking. It has a…
  • There were several things I chose to ignore (feeling like passing out everytime I had to bend over to put shoe covers on @ work, STAIRS - omg STAIRS!! (would avoid when having to go upstairs to meeting bc I did not want to enter the conference room huffing & puffing/go slower than colleagues/try to keep up with them and…
  • I would start with the (usually free) session you get when you start at most gyms. Ease into exercise- don't go nuts & hurt yourself, then try out some of the suggestions here. Good Luck!

  • HA!! I was just going to say I'm making Buffalo Chicken Meatballs (crockpot) for my potluck tomorrow :-) Protein always goes FAST!!! And I hate having to take home a dish that went uneaten (veggie platter, I'm talking to YOU!!). My go-to for when I simply don't have time is a cold shrimp platter (Costco!)... It ALWAYS gets…
