Avoid all those commercial "diet" things. They are not filling and contain too many chemicals and too much sugar! Have 30 g of oats with skim milk and a banana for breakfast = 300 cals Small handful of nuts/apple for a mid-morning snack - 100 cals Tuna/chicken + raw vegetable salad for lunch - 300 cals 500 cals left for…

My TDEE is also 1700 ("little or no exercise") and I am finding the weight loss really slow like you. I think we are in the same boat! I am eating 1280 a day net - so eat back my exercise calories for the day (anything up to an extra 400). TDEE - 20% would be 1360 but I think this is too much. According to Fitness Pal this…

Just a couple of points: Do you wear a heart rate monitor when working out? You might be over-estimating calories burned. If you are doing the same kind of workout month after month, your body will become more efficient and burn fewer calories. So check how many calories you are REALLY burning to keep things more accurate.…

Many people lose a LOT at the beginning of their diet. Then it slows down, they get bored and frustrated and go back to the bad habits. I am struggling with the last 20 or so pounds and know it will take a long time! Your food choices look pretty good to me. You could try increasing the exercise a bit if you are able, but…

Amazing - all in just over a month!! :)

Good advice from Dawn - also try an apple cider vinegar rinse several times a day., I think that got rid of my last bad sore throat (felt like the start of strep) but of course you can never be sure. Don't wait too long to go see the doctor though - sometimes antibiotics are unavoidable.

Maybe increase your meal sizes by 10%. You won't really notice such a small difference but it should boost your calorie intake if you do it for every meal.

I lived with a very overweight girl once who ate very healthily but cooked enough for a family of five and ate it ALL in one sitting! What you eat affects your your long-term health ... but portion size is the key to losing weight. Do you weigh your food? You might be surprised (I was!)

One thing I have found with hypothyroidism - I think it is connected - is that I started getting migraines when I did not eat regularly. I tried doing the 5:2 diet but had to stop because of the headaches. Keep your blood sugar level from dropping too low by eating every 3 hours. I also feel like I need to do lots of…

Your weight might go up after a big workout. Or it could be slow digestion. Just keep on with what you are doing and stay as active as you can.

I am not recommending his diet in the slightest but Dr. Dukan has an "ideal weight calculator" on his website. (you don't have to enter your real email address) Edited to add: By the way, a pound a week is ideal. That's what I have been losing so far and hope it continues! :)

Save up 200 calories for an evening snack - some brazil nuts maybe.

Untreated hypothyroidism has a more serious effect on your body: it can cause heart disease. Your cholesterol levels will rise and might lead to all sorts of serious problems. You may also suffer from depression, tiredness and memory loss if it's not treated. I would take you're doctor's advice. People don't just take…

Well the scientists say that we naturally store fat in stressful situations, stemming back from when food was scarce.

OK I am confused now. MFP says that my BMR is 1435, but tells me to eat 1280 calories a day (plus exercise calories). Which is right? (I am not losing any weight at the moment - nothing since 1st April - so wonder if I am actually doing something wrong).

Try exercising more rather than reducing your food intake? Maybe start a new hobby like hiking/biking at the weekends with friends. Perhaps you need a more positive approach rather than denying yourself food. I am three weeks into my diet and have lost barely any weight yet (I assume this is because I'm doing loads of…

- Cold melon cubes - Low-fat ice cream

Try slowing down with your squats too. Check your form and they should really hurt after a couple of minutes! Also, buy new pants! :)
-
To be really accurate, you could wear a heart weight monitor for all your workouts in a week, add them up (along with other exercise such as walks) and add it to your BMR.

Maybe I will go to the Zumba class - not too strenuous and at least I will be burning a few calories!
-
I would suggest some HIIT and strength training to get you toned for the summer and boost the calorie burn. Maybe set yourself a jogging goal e.g. you can run 10 miles in xx minutes by the end of July. Then you can also eat a bit more food - maybe have a few high-calorie days with extra carbs (brown rice, pasta, baked…

I have had high blood pressure since I was 30 ... take this seriously and keep pressuring your doctor about it! I have seen a few doctors over the years and most ignored it as they assumed I was having a stressful day and was far to young to have hypertension. As recommended, buy a blood pressure monitor and take some…

I had a quick look at your diary and there are a few things which might be confusing your calorie intake. e.g. you have oats for breakfast quite often. Do you make them with water, or milk? Don't forget to add any milk you add to cereal, coffee etc as it soon adds up. also - weigh the oats! I have a tiny portion for…

For a couple of days after a big workouts your muscles will contain more water, which can make you temporarily gain weight. This might be what happened to you. As others have suggested, decrease carbs a bit and increase protein. If you have red numbers that's a sign your diet is out of balance.
-
Also a word of warning - your weight loss will probably start to slow down now. The key is not to give up when the frustration and boredom kick in!
-
You are doing better than me - I started dieting on April 1 too and have lost a grant total of 1 kg! :( I think you should change up the exercise a bit. There are plenty of amazing things to try, like horse riding, swimming, cycling, rollerblading etc. to work different muscle groups. It will take more than two weeks for…

Do you have Quorn in the USA? It's a meat substitute which is quite low in calories. I like a couple of the "chicken-style" fillets with chopped vegetables stir-fried in soy sauce. I had a HUGE bowl of vegetables (250 kcal) and two fillets (100 kcal) for lunch yesterday and was so full I did not want dinner at all!

Start a new high-intensity workout you have not done before - your body gets used to doing the same thing and becomes more efficient. Don't forget your body naturally programmed to retain as much fat as possible so you can survive the food supplies run out, so you have to keep changing exercise and the amount of calories…

Low fat dairy is supposed to help fat loss. So low-fat yoghurt, ice cream, milk are good options, three times a day :) I think pretzels are quite high in calories
