I wouldn't personally be full w/ just a fruit smoothie. I do a smoothie in the morning that has protein and healthy fats along w/ fruits for taste and it keeps me full until lunch. It's relatively low carb/low sugar (only carbs from fruit/veg). It generally looks like this: 1 scoop protein powder (100 cals, 25g protein) -…

that sucks - I have this too, but it seems not as bad as you :( Mine is worst with cherries (throat itches!), peaches and apples. I just eat them anyway and then drink a lot of water and maybe "chase it" with something else that doesn't cause symptoms. It seems to help a little if I quickly wash out my mouth w/ the water…

It depends. I set my lifestyle as sedentary, so I logged this weekend when I did yardwork (4 hours of weeding, using hedge sheers, etc that caused my mucsles to be sore) and heavy house cleaning (e.g. 2 hours on sunday doing serious cleaning during which I go up and down 3 flights of steps and I broke a sweat). I don't log…

When I was a kid my mom found maggots in a box of jiff pie crust mix. ugh! Does anyone else remember when we were kids and there was something called Crystal Pepsi (clear pepsi that tasted delish)? Well there was a scare about people finding syringes in them. Didn't happen to us, but man was that good stuff - not sure why…

Congrats - that is amazing!! You are inspiring - I have those videos and they kick my a**!! No excueses is right! (I wish there was a thumbs up or high five smiley)

I think the others have given you great advice, I just wanted to say I'm seriously impressed and inspired by you and I think you are amazing for starting this journey!! Good for you, Dani! I was kind of sad myself the day I realized I couldnt' eat whatever I wanted to all the time anymore, so I totally get that feeling. I…

Fage 0% Plain - yum! So creamy. I add my own fruit - saves on calories and sugar this way. I also like to add ground flax seeds. Yum.

Aww - don't be scared! I agree with the others that people really don't care or notice others at the gym (except for the girls wearing only sportsbras, i'm sure the guys notice them  ) But seriously - even if people do notice you they are probably thinking "wow, good for her for getting out here and getting…

Oh and another one is chicken salad. I get chicken in those pouches like tuna salad and mix it w/ greek yogurt and then whatever I'm feeling - sliced almonds, diced onions and celery, garlic powder, black pepper, onion powder, curry powder once, etc. Then I eat it at work for lunch by scooping it up w/ celery sticks! Lots…

Yep - this is pretty much me. I get "dehydrated" sooo easily! I just don't understand when people have trouble getting 8 glasses becuase I have that or more before lunch!

Hmm, have you been tested for diabetes? Excessive thirst and swelling in hands/feet can be a symptom. (Doctors always test me when I tell them how much I drink, but it's always negative!)
-
Maybe too much sodium or that your body isn't used to being on your feet and working out much? I drink like 20 glasses a day easily (not including coffee and tea) and was told that is too much, so I wouldn't drink 15 just for the sake of it to be healhty, only if you are thirsty and want it becuase you really don't "need"…

Thanks, I'll try Trader Joe's. I may just have to suck it up and use the higher cal ones because they are so much creamier and coconutier (is that a word?!) Yeah, the stuff that doesn't have to be kept cold is probably full of preservatives to allow it to be room temperature stable so I opt for the kind kept in the fridge.

I eat various things including some or all of these: hard boiled egg weight watchers smoked mozerlla string cheese (50 cals) Fage plain greek yogurt (to which I add ground flax seed and fresh berries) hummus with grape tomatoes, celery, bell peppers (yellow red and orage) and carrots orange banana w/ 1-1.5 Tbsp peanut…

Ground flax seeds! Also walnuts and flax oil. Be careful w/ the oil though - it goes rancid quickly if you aren't careful. You can also take supplements like someone suggested.

Yep - go by HRM. The MFP for elliptical is crazy high - it must assume a certain intensity/incline/resistence or something becuase it's always higher than my HRM (but sometimes MFP is too low for other cardio). Also, even though the elliptical shows your heart rate I don't think it uses that to calculate your calories…

It's probably water weight. It happened to me just last week - I was up 2 pounds the day after a hard workout. I then took a rest day and noticed I had to wake up a lot to go to the bathroom, so I was suspicious it was water weight and my body was now getting rid of it. Sure enough, the next morning I weighed again and was…

I go over too but that's bc I love fruit and refuse to limit my fruit (at least for now). I don't eat anythign w/ added sugar - I don't have cereal, I don't add sugar to oatmeal, I use Stevia in my coffee, I eat plain yogurt and add fruit to it (so no added fake sugars), etc. It keeps it down but I still go over becuase of…

I use NOW foods Whey Protein Isolate, plain. I got it on amazon. The only ingredient is whey protein isolate (and some amino acids), no added sugars, carbs, sugar alcohols, other preservatives and chemicals, etc. One scoop is 25g protein,105 calories, 1g carbs, 0.3g fat, 1g sugar (naturally occuring in the whey), 40mg…

I'm not an expert, but maybe also more protein and less carbs?

This is correct - you will need something during the half so it would be good to find out what they serve on the course and practice w/ that, or you can just drink water on the course and bring some gels or chews (you should practice w/ those on your long runs if that's your plan). BUT you don't need those things on your…

I'm not a big fan either - gatorade makes me really thirsty (because of all the salt).
-
No, not for a 3 mile run or really any run under 1 hour - there is a lot of literature out there saying it's unnecessary carbs/sugar/cals for runs less than 1 hr. It just takes time to get used to the heat when it first gets warm. If you go to Runner's world.com they have a lot of info there talking about this and similar…

You can also calculate your TDEE so that it DOES NOT include your exercise. This is how I do it since I don't do the same exercise from day to day or week to week. So I calculate TDEE w/o exercise to make sure it doesn't over/under calculate when I add/skip exercise. Then I log my exercise in MFP as I earn it (type in the…

^^Also this - I exercise so I can earn more calories to eat :)
-
I eat mine back to make sure I'm not eating below my BMR. My daily calories is set at my BMR (TDEE - 20% is lower than my BMR), so if I don't eat my calories back it's too low (my TDEE is low bc I have a desk job, no kids to chase, etc). That said, there are days I eat over my calories (yesterday 700 over...oops) and days…

The hardest part for me was admitting that I needed to change my life style because I can no longer eat like I did when I was in my 20s (i.e. eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, not exercise and still be a size 2-4). Social situations are hard sometimes when you get those pesky people who say "oh, come on you can…

Some of the things other people saw on the site sound crazy, but I just popped over and saw a thread about working out and the girl was posting her workout diary - seemed like a healthy exercise plan, nothing extreme. There was another thread on how to be taller (I kind of chuckled at that), so it makes me think it's a…

I don't have results yet since I just started, but this workout kicks my a**! It is definitely harder than 30DS and a longer workout too, which I like. (42 min of circuits vs 20). I don't know how you wouldn't get results from this, so if you're wondering if you should buy, I say go for it! I once searched the threads for…

I suffer too and I've done a lot of research on this. There are compression sleeves you can wear on your lower legs that some say help. You can also try to strengthen your shin muscles as some research says this is in part due to an imbalance between your calf and shin muscles. The primary strength workout I saw is to do a…
