I'm an Aussie who travels to the U.S. quite a bit and food is definitely a big part of the fun. One of the things I like about the U.S. is that nobody blinks an eye about asking to have the leftovers packed up for takeaway. In fact, they usually ask first! I sometimes end up getting 3 meals out of a main. I remember…

I do lots of food swaps to save calories. A few of the things I do are to use lactose free skim milk and yogurts because they are naturally sweet (the glucose has been release by the lactase enzyme) Swap regular noodles and pasta for virtually calorie free shirataki noodles, which I hide in the sauce Swap regular sugar for…

Thanks everyone who commented and Sara, I would love to hear your thoughts.

I drink my coffee with smart sugar (a stevia sugar blend) and light milk. We don't really do powdered creamers or half and half here. Coffee in the US is always an experience. :p

Lol...I wish I could share it around I'm going to lose a further 3 kilos and see what happens then. I'm still probably 25ish% body fat and my girls are DDs so the weight loss should bring them down to a C/D cup which might mean I can fit into my dresses again. I probably need to move on from stronglifts anyway....although…

Thirty pages overnight. Wow, very impressive! I've managed the first and last 5 but have to get ready for work, so it will have to wait... I think that a definition of what is 'healthy food' is very much individual and depends on the dose and context. A food high in phenylalanine might be healthy for me because it helps me…

Who knows. My 93 year old father called it sugar, and enjoyed it as a normal part of his diet, in his tea, in sweets, in soft drinks etc.
-
I think it's the same thing. This is the one I have. I cook lots of things in it...chicken fillets, veges, sausages, pastries.

This is partly why I like meta-analyses. At least they make a statistical guesstimate of publication bias. They also have their own unique set of problems though...

Can I clarify? Does MFP count fibre as 4 cals per gram? At most, it would be 2 cals or gram and that's assuming it's all soluble fibre, which isn't the case for most foods. Actually, I just reread what you said. They must make a guesstimate....
-
In the original context, you were using a comparison of a diet that contained 50% of calories from insoluble fibre to one containing the same amount of calories, but low fibre to demonstrate different weight loss due to different energy intake. Am I correct? Apart from being extreme because I doubt it possible to consume…
-
Yep, insoluble fibre has no calories as I stated. The op was using insoluble fibre in his example, counting calories from it, which is not correct. Soluble fibre has the calories absorbed by colonic salvage which are minimal as I also said in my original post, particularly as it's difficult to tolerate too much fibre in…

Have you heard of an air fryer? I make chips in my air fryer and they taste delicious, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

The same doctor (naturopath) advocates for detoxing, going gluten free for everyone, that we should take his supplements because we are all mineral deficient, and features regularly on Natural News. I think he's distorted/misinterpreted the protein leverage hypothesis.

I thought that this thread had been deleted, but I see it's still here, in all it's sugary glory....lol

MMM...apple pie.... :p

I got hold of the full text today. For anyone interested, here's some more info. Re the dried apples: There was no explanation of why dried vs fresh, but the authors stated "The rationale for choosing the dose of dried apple was based on our earlier short-term clinical trial (B. H. Arjmandi, PhD, RD, and D. A. Khalil, PhD,…

Lol. Anarchy is good, but censorship makes me uncomfortable....and I like to know why.... I wonder if shelleygold asked to have them deleted.
-
I don't think that they had a lot of flags. I thought an explanation would be provided if posts were deleted.
-
Some of our posts were deleted with no explanation. Why was that?

There's somewhere that does better biscuits? Drool. Googling recipes....... Found this. http://www.recipesecrets.net/blog/recipes/copycat-kfc-buttermilk-biscuits/

Ok, I'll bite. From what I understand, you're focussing on prevention rather than treating symptoms. However, you're going way out on a limb with the sugar talk. If you want to discuss it, people will discuss using research from academic journals to prove a point....is that what you call academic bantering? If you're not…
-
I agree. OP, none of my business, but I'm curious about why you've been put on such a low calorie diet.
-
The image you posted doesn't necessarily support that, instead it suggests (to me anyway) that different dietary components influence hunger/satiety signals and body composition, which could indirectly influence weight loss, but not in the context of calories/thermodynamics, or at least to any meaningful extent. Seriously,…

I would be interested to read that article.
-
There would be variability due to things such as individual variations in genes for metabolic enzymes and other aspects that can't be controlled for in studies.
-
Again, there are no calories in fibre. Fibre is an indigestible bulking agent. You continue to say calories from fibre to prove your point that all calories aren't the same but it doesn't prove your point at all. It shows that you don't understand what fibre is.
