  • Atheist, humanist, skeptic, liberal. I started with more than 100 pounds to lose, but that was 4 years ago. I'm doing it slowly. I've got about 15 to go to get to more than 100 pounds lost. I haven't actually decided what my final goal weight is.
  • As malibu927 said, the Fitbit stair count isn't reliable. If you climb a lot of stairs, particularly if you go out of your way to do it as exercise, then it can be a fun number to track, but otherwise, you should just ignore it. It isn't used in any calculations - it doesn't affect your calorie burn, steps, number of…
  • I would suggest following all the troubleshooting steps on this page that MFP has provided: https://myfitnesspal.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/1427466-what-if-data-doesn-t-appear-to-be-syncing-from-fitbit-to-myfitnesspal- If it still doesn't work then at least you'll have specific information to post about what you've…
  • Did you read the page I linked? The adjustment can be seen on the Exercise page of the MFP website, or in the Diary on the mobile app. Click the little 'i' (website) or tap the adjustment (mobile app) to see how it is calculated. If it isn't there, then your accounts aren't properly linked. Go to the page I linked and…
  • If MFP is showing your Fitbit steps, then it should be doing calorie adjustments. When you go to the exercise page (or the diary in the mobile app), do you see a line for Fitbit Calorie Adjustment? If you don't have negative adjustments enabled and aren't active enough to get a positive adjustment, it could appear you're…
  • I'm still learning how to dress for the weather when running. I mostly used the treadmill last winter but during the spring I found that I could run in weather that was too cold for a walk. This winter I want to keep running outside when I can. If I bundle up too much I overheat, but I don't want to be miserably cold…
  • I tried logging food in Fitbit once - admittedly a long time ago - because MFP and Fitbit weren't syncing, and it was awful compared to doing it in MFP. Maybe they've improved it since then, but I kind of doubt it is as easy to use as MFP. MFP has a lot of good shortcuts - the recipe builder (which is sometimes buggy…
  • C25k Run/Jog W2D1. By the time we got back to the house after my run combined with our walk, I was unusually wiped out. I'm not sure why. The run felt pretty hard and my heart rate was pretty high for most of the run (a couple of times it got up to my theoretical "maximum" heart rate of 161). Stats for today: 1.66 miles in…
  • Yes, the design of the back, where the charger plugs in isn't great on the Charge HR. Mine came off a while back. Mine was also about 18 months old, so out of warranty. I sent them a picture of it with the back off and they offered me a 25% discount on a new tracker. So, I got a Charge 2. I love the new features and the…
  • @Gena575 : I was thinking about what you're seeing and it looks like your Fitbit is seeing an elevated heart rate and steps and translating that into calorie burn (which makes sense, since that's what it is designed to do). One question is whether your heart rate is being accurately measured by your Fitbit. You might try…
  • I think it is different for the iPhone and Android apps. On my Android, there is no "More" - I just open the menu and select Steps. Or you can use the website and go to the Apps page. Look for Steps on the upper right.
  • Actually, I know that in the past, when MFP spontaneously switched me to "Don't track steps", the calorie adjustment disappeared. I'm not sure I understand the point of turning off the steps in MFP - they don't affect anything. The only thing MFP does with the step number it gets from Fitbit is display it. It doesn't…
  • C25k Run/Jog W1D3. It seemed harder today. I may have tried to run faster at the beginning. By the second half of the run, there's no difference in my pace between the run segments and the jog segments. The hill is getting pretty steep at that point and I'm getting pretty tired. There are only 3 short, slightly downhill…
  • C25k Run/Jog W1D2. The GPS was acting up, so I'm not 100% confident about the stats, but the distance seems about right. I was a tiny bit faster today, so went a little farther up the hill and then on the last "walk" interval I continued jogging uphill for a little bit before turning around and treating myself to a minute…
  • Some people adjust their height and/or their age, I think, in order to get a different burn number from Fitbit, but that tends to throw other things off, I think, and I just didn't want to do it that way. What I did for a while, was just do a "Quick Add Calories" in MFP every day to offset the cumulative error of Fitbit…
  • I assume you don't actually mean that Fitbit said you only burned 693 calories. That's a very low number for most of a day unless you're a small child. I assume that what you mean is that 693 is your "Fitbit Calorie Adjustment" in MFP. Fitbit shouldn't interpret a high heart rate as "exercise" unless you're also moving…
  • I would recommend that you read the FAQ found in the stickies. It answers lots of questions. Here's a handy link: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10098937/faq-syncing-logging-food-exercise-calorie-adjustments-activity-levels-accuracy/p1 The general advice here is to log all your food in MFP and all your…
  • I've been trying to figure out what to do now that I've completed both C25k and rundouble's 5K to 10K program. I didn't want to continue running 10K - it's just too time consuming for me and I never adapted to running up so many hills. As soon as I got to the top of one hill, I had just enough time to dread the next one…
  • @Tomk652015 : Yes, that is right. With your MFP activity level set higher, you'll start the day with more calories to eat but get a smaller adjustment and you should end the day with the same total calories to eat. Whether you're truly earning those calories is a different question, best answered by logging your food…
  • What I'm doing is manually subtracting the food calories I've entered in MFP from the calories "Left to Eat" in Fitbit. Not ideal, but at least I'll have a feel for how much I can eat. I do hope they fix it quickly. It's more broken than the usual outage, when food at least goes from MFP to Fitbit.
  • Thanks for posting the link. I saw it earlier, and thought it would be worth having a link to it here, but was too busy to do it.
  • Frustrating. You may have done all this, but this is a pretty thorough help page that MFP has that goes through all the steps you should try: https://myfitnesspal.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/1427466-what-if-data-doesn-t-appear-to-be-syncing-from-fitbit-to-myfitnesspal-
  • @retirehappy : You're welcome. I hope you can get a discount on a new one. I also value the HR tracking on my Fitbit and feel that the Fitbit in general has made a huge difference to my fitness and weight. I am loving my Charge 2.
  • Today we went into town and I ran the final run of the 5K to 10K rundouble program on relatively level ground (Boyd Lake State Park - the maximum elevation difference looks like it was around 100 feet). It took a lot of willpower but I ran the whole time, except for a few times when I slowed down briefly to blow my nose or…

  • Weather, and life, have interfered with running recently. Plus, lack of enthusiasm. I think it's not just the length of the 10K runs that's been getting to me but having to run up so many steep and/or long hills. I just stopped enjoying it. So, yesterday, I just did a 15 minute run - which was just over a mile. It was…

  • Actually, you can. Go to the Apps tab, and near the top, on the right, you can select Steps.
  • @Christine_72: You've got your units confused. You don't get centimeters by multiplying kilometers by 100. You get centimeters by multiplying meters by 100. You get meters by multiplying kilometers by 1000. 2.81 km * 1000 m/km * 100 cm/m = 281000 cm 281000 cm/ 3583 steps = stride length of 78.4 cm If you always put your…
  • I guarantee that you're burning more than 900 calories a day. I suspect you mean that your Fitbit Calorie Adjustment in MFP is 900 calories. It's important to understand the difference and how MFP comes up with that adjustment number. I would suggest that you read the FAQ found in the stickies. Here's handy link:…
