  • (510m * 100 cm/m) / 598 steps = 85.3 cm/step Pretty simple calculation - you don't need height when you have distance and step count. You want to make sure those are "normal" steps - not a shuffle, not a power walk, just your normal stride. For running, of course, you have to do a whole new calculation.
  • Mine just arrived. I've set it up and it is charging. My initial impression is that the band material is pretty similar to the band on my Charge HR. The band size is okay, I'm on the second hole from the minimum size, so I guess I'd better hope my wrist doesn't shrink a lot more. The design of the charging cable is so much…
  • malibu927 is right. MFP just gets steps and calories burned from Fitbit and doesn't do anything with steps other than display the number. It's the calories burned that is important and it covers all your calories burned - both from exercise and from just being alive. If you want your individual exercise noted in your MFP…
  • Think about which features you want, what sort of look you want, and how much you want to spend, and then look on the Fitbit store site to compare them - it's really a very individual decision and without a lot more information, it's hard to say which one you should get. (Also I'm not sure Fitbit sells the "Charge" any…
  • I'm on the innermost 4th hole on my Charge HR and I occasionally tighten it up to the 3rd hole. (When I got it, I used the 5th hole most of the time, but my wrist has shrunk a little.) My Charge 2 is supposed to arrive Tuesday - I hope it isn't hopelessly too large. My Charge HR band has a small bubble on it, but not where…
  • Don't worry about it. The first day is always off, but you certainly did burn calories today before you got your Alta. Just like you do every day, just living burns calories. I'd recommend that you read the FAQ found in the stickies. It will answer lots of questions you don't even know you have. Here's a handy link:…
  • Check to make sure you don't have multiple summaries for the same meal in Fitbit. There's a bug that causes that sometimes. You then have to go in and compare the calorie counts for the meal summary with the actual calorie count for the meal in MFP in order to determine which entries to delete in Fitbit.
  • malibu927 is right - you need a better understanding of what the Fitbit Calorie Adjustment is. It is based on total calories burned, not just exercise calories. Reading the FAQ should help. Here's a handy link:…
  • The calculation that MFP does to come up with your Fitbit Adjustment is not affected by your weight loss goal in either program. It is based on the difference between how many calories Fitbit says you've burned and how many calories MFP expected you to burn (based on age, weight, height, gender and chosen activity level).…
  • I started out this morning to do my final 5K to 10K run - Week 6, Day 3 of the rundouble program. But, I ended up bailing after a little over a mile and rejoining my husband for our walk. I came to the realization that I just haven't been enjoying running lately, as the runs have gotten so long. I used to look forward to…
  • There are several things to check. Are your food entries coming through from MFP to Fitbit? In that case, you're at least partially connected. Check your "step source" setting - under Steps in the mobile app or on the website on the Apps page, look for "Steps" near the top. Make sure it is set to "Fitbit Tracker". MFP has…
  • It may depend on which Fitbit you have. Some are supposed to have the ability to track bike rides, but purely step-based trackers - the One, Zip, Flex, Flex 2, Charge and Alta - certainly can't. I'm pretty sure the Blaze and Surge are supposed to have a mode that tracks bike rides. I think the Charge HR and the Charge 2…
  • I'll get mine next week as well. If the band is that bad, I'll probably end up getting another band for it at some point - maybe from a 3rd party, once someone makes them. In the pictures on their web site, the material looks pretty similar - just a slightly different texture - but it's hard to tell much from pictures. I'm…
  • It does seem like that would be an issue, but Fitbit actually markets an accessory to wear your Flex as a pendant. So, unless there's something special about the Flex, it seems like it isn't unreasonable to wear the Alta in a different way.
  • I was debating the same thing... I was planning on buying myself a new Fitbit for my birthday next year, but then the back started coming off my Charge HR. My husband tried gluing it back on with some silicone glue (he can generally fix anything), but the fix didn't last. It still works, but the back won't stay on if…
  • You don't have to do anything in MFP. Your MFP account is connected to your Fitbit account, not your device, and doesn't care which Fitbit you have. You just have to tell your Fitbit account about your new device. If you don't know how to do that, either check the instructions on the Fitbit site or contact Fitbit customer…
  • @lsny123 : This isn't the right place to ask. This is only for finding other people to be friends with. I think the first thing to check is your time zone setting. Make sure both your Fitbit and MFP accounts have the same setting. If that doesn't help, post your question in the Discussions section.
  • Don't be disappointed. Just finishing the program is an accomplishment, even if you aren't running 5K. I was amazed when I got to where I could run for 30 minutes without a break. A lot of people just continue on their own to stretch the distance and/or increase their speed and I wish I was the sort of person who could do…
  • W6D2 of 5K to 10K. As usual, I did walk on some of the hills. Stats: 6.22 miles in 78:11 for a pace of 12:34. That's fast for me.

  • It makes me want to visit Yosemite. I've never been there and the pictures are gorgeous. I can see how it would motivate some people to move more, but it doesn't really work for me in that way. The health and fitness tips that some of the gems give are trite stuff I already know. The park history tidbits and some of the…
  • W6D1 of 5K to 10K. Officially - 10K with no programmed walking! Just 2 more runs before I "graduate" from the 5K to 10K program. However, as usual, I did walk on some of the hills, although I think less this time. It was a great morning for a run - cloudy, low 60s - and I had some interesting podcasts to listen to that…

  • I'm finding this is a problem for me. I go for either a 5 mile walk or a run every morning. I can't collect the gems while on the walk or the run. Not only am I too busy to interact with my phone, but for a lot of the distance, I have no cell service. So, I don't think I'll ever get to collect all the gems. There is a…
  • I think the idea is that hours of sitting with very little getting up and moving around can be really detrimental even for people who get their "10,000 steps" every day, so the feature is for people like that. Back when I had an office job, it would have been really helpful (although not always achievable - you can't just…
  • I think the GPS is similar to the Blaze - it doesn't have a GPS, so you still need to carry your phone, but can display some GPS dependent information. I'm not very clear on exactly what "Connected GPS" means but the Charge 2 has it and the Charge HR does not.
  • It looks to have a bigger display (longer, not wider) and a removable band. It has some features that Charge HR doesn't have - in some cases I suspect it is partly due to them needing the bigger display and in some cases (such as the "Reminder to move" feature) I suspect it is a marketing choice (i.e. to get people to buy…

Here's a handy link: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10098937/faq-syncing-logging-food-exercise-calorie-adjustments-activity-levels-accuracy/p1 Do NOT remove your Fitbit when you're using the treadmill - that is exactly the kind of exercise it…
  • I have a Charge HR. Which one is right for you depends on what you want from it. I'm thinking of "upgrading" mine for my birthday next year (February), so this is something I've been debating with myself. I like the heart rate monitor, although I recognize it isn't perfect it is accurate enough for my needs. I wish I had…
  • W5D3 of 5K to 10K. I think that I walked less than last time - however, when I do run on the steep parts, it is clearly no faster than I walk, since I'm not any faster. Next time, I'm supposed to run the full 10K distance. I'm sure I'll still end up with some walking. Stats: 6.3 miles in 81:47 for a pace of 12:58.
